Kings of Leon – Use Somebody Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I don't even really like Kings of Leon, but the lyrics to this song seem to describe my life in a way. I'm in a position where I'm kind of in the spotlight, but despite all these people with their eyes on me, the one person I want to notice me hardly knows I exist. |
Disturbed – Prayer Lyrics | 17 years ago |
"A conversation with the idea of the God that common Judeo-Christian theology would have you believe in. If God truly inflicts vengeful acts of pain and suffering upon its creations as a sort of temper tantrum in order to elicit a response, then bring it on. There is nothing that can be thrown at you that will deter you from your chosen path, or break your spirit. It speaks to the indominable nature of the human spirit, that no matter what life, fate, or God throws at you, you have the strength and wherewithal to get through it." - David Draiman |
Marilyn Manson – Disassociative Lyrics | 17 years ago |
As others have stated, the song is about an experience Manson had with Ketamine. He apparently did it by accident once (he thought it was cocaine), and it left him in a dissociative state (thus the name) that seemed to separate his mind from his body. He had to be carried back to his hotel room, and sat on a balcony staring at the stars. He eventually used the state he was in as a metaphor for the apathetic nature of the human race, and immediately started writing this song as soon as he came out of the "K-hole". "I don't wanna just float in fear A dead astronaut in space" Refers to his view of the stars from the balcony, as he said in the untitled track: "From the top of Hollywood, it looked like space..." "We write a song in space like we're already dead and gone." In a metaphorical sense, Manson did just that. "Sometimes we walk like we were shot through our heads, my love." Describing his feelings about the human race, stumbling aimlessly through existence, almost like we've got holes in our heads. You can pretty much figure the rest for yourself. |
Marilyn Manson – Track 99 Lyrics | 17 years ago |
*Note about my last comment* The voice sounds like it was recorded, then flipped backwards, but the phrases I described are heard when it's listened to normally. |
Marilyn Manson – Track 99 Lyrics | 17 years ago |
OK, I listened to it again. It seems he's saying (in a reversed voice) "When you are suffering, know that I have betrayed you." He says this 3 times, then he says "These are the dying years." He ends with a phrase that I still can't understand, but it sounds like "Let ____ new dark age _____" |
Marilyn Manson – Coma Black Lyrics | 17 years ago |
As far as the story of Holy Wood goes, this is the fall (and/or death) of the character named Coma (who many people believe to be based on Rose McGowan.) In a metaphorical sense, it's about falling out of love. |
Marilyn Manson – (s)AINT Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This song is obviously an ode to Rose McGowan, who used Manson to get famous. ("You said I tasted famous, so I drew you a heart.") Supposedly the reason she gave that didn't want to be with him anymore was that he was "too perfect." ("You wanted perfekt, you got your perfekt, now I'm too perfekt for someone like you.") Perfect song to sing to an ex. |
Marilyn Manson – Para-Noir Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Supposedly, when Manson was writing this song, he was on tour, and had a whole bunch of female fans coming in and saying all the different reasons why they would fuck him. |
Marilyn Manson – Slutgarden Lyrics | 17 years ago |
"I never believed the devil was real, but God couldn't make someone filthy as you." Love that line. This song seems to be along the same line of thought as Para-Noir and User Friendly (from Mechanical Animals) |
Marilyn Manson – Cake And Sodomy Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I love to drive through the local Wal-Mart parking lot with this on full-blast. That place is full of white trash and bible-thumping old people, and this song gets me a lot of dirty looks from them. I just smile back, as if to say "Fuck you, have a nice day!" |
Marilyn Manson – Track 99 Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Interestingly enough, if you put the album on loop, the distorted voice says the last phrase twice (once at the end of the album, and once at the beginning), and it's said with the same interval as the other phrases he repeated twice throughout this track, implying that the story of this album is cyclical, and at the end of the story, there's another worm somewhere that will eventually get it's wings and kill Manson to become the new Superstar. Anyone have any idea what the other voice is saying in the background? It sounded like it was reversed, so I flipped it backwards, but I still can't understand it. I doubt it's English. |
Stone Sour – Hell & Consequences Lyrics | 18 years ago |
By the way, this is probably one of my favorites on the album. |
Stone Sour – Hell & Consequences Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Sounds to me like a taunt, directed at someone he sees as trying to drag him down, and he's telling them: the only way you'll take me down is if I let you, and "I refuse to die" |
Stone Sour – Socio Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Just a guess, maybe it's someone dealing with depression or anxiety. By the way, that weird sounding part just before "freedom in a cage", when played backwards, says "Yeah, that's pretty good. You can turn the music up if you want, yeah." I have absolutely no idea what that has to do with anything. |
Stone Sour – Through Glass Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Definitely can see the connections to Hollywood. "The glass" could be your TV screen, but I also think it could be metaphorical, like a glass display case ("you're outside looking in, describing what you see"), and "epidemic of the mannequins" just reinforces this. The "stars", of course, are not the ones in the sky, but the ones on the sidewalk. That being said, this song can still definitely take different meanings depending on your own life experiences as well. |
Stone Sour – Made of Scars Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I think it could mean "Everything that has happened to me in the past has shaped the person I am today." The way he says "everything you are I will betray" might suggest that he resents who he is and wants to change it. |
Stone Sour – Come What(ever) May Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Yep. Seems like every band is jumping on the "let's make an anti-Bush song" bandwagon. It's really getting old, and besides, the man won the last election fair and square. You want Bush gone? 2008 is your chance. Until then, STFU. Musically, though, it's a great song. |
Stone Sour – Reborn Lyrics | 18 years ago |
One little correction to the lyrics, saw a photo of Corey's lyric sheet he used in the studio on Stone Sour's official MySpace page, so it's gotta be right, but anyway: Cold to all your loose reason was pretty close, but it should be Cold to all your lucid reason Glad to help. As far as my interpretation of the song, I think the whole message is, "Yeah, I've been down, but I'm not out. You thought you were rid of me, but I'm coming back to smack you in the face, 'Motherfucker'." |
Slipknot – Scream Lyrics | 19 years ago |
NeutralPunkGuy: "some of those lyrics are wrong" ... LMMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't think you have any room to talk, buddy. |
Slipknot – Welcome Lyrics | 19 years ago |
ACTUAL LYRICS, TAKEN FROM THE BOOKLET: I am a product of your conduct The uncontrollable urges that made me have made us all Are you proud? Do you even care? You taught us all a lie, that's how we made it here You should've buried the truth with your secrets But you were far too impressed with your pretense Now as far as I know, I don't know anything 'Cause you made damn sure I wasn't anything! Distraction, reaction The only way to go is to go away Discarded, retarded Before I let you go you have to let me Clawed away from human clay We are the broken shards, the art disarray Before you condemn, you rape them Feed us meconium Stunt our growth from our souls to our throats. Cut! You shouldn't wall us up with your apathy But you did, and now you're only growing enemies This is the catalyst, the alpha, the first breed 'Cause you made damn sure...now we're everything! Distraction, reaction The only way to go is to go away Discarded, retarded Before I let you go you have to let me Much to my surprise I will wake up And follow the path of the ones that I'm made of But this time I won't give in I will save you from my sins (What is wrong with this--manipulation--chaotic) Ensconsed In all that's wrong I slam you shut I can only take so much! How many times do I have to mistreat you? Constantly biting my hand as I feed you Maybe now you'll understand severity I'll sum it up with the best amount of brevity Welcome to the transformation Welcome to annihilation Welcome to the man that wanted everything But couldn't have it Distraction, Reaction The only way to go is to go away Discarded, Retarded Before I let you go you have to let me Much to my surprise I will wake up And follow the path of the ones that I'm made of But this time I won't give in I will save you from my sins I'll save you from my sins! ---------------------------------------------------- DOWN WITH NEUTRALPUNKGUY!!! |

D12 – Bitch Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Actually it should be "Stupid McNupid self". And no, "McNupid" is not a word either. As for the song meaning, it's obvious if you listen to the lyrics, but then again, if you did, then this song is not about you. Basically, bitches (women) don't listen to the words of any song they hear, they're only listening to the beat, so they can dance and try to attract a guy who will buy them a drink. So fuck it, we're gonna make a whole song dissing women, and women are going to love it because they aren't listening to what we're saying anyways. THIS IS THE BEST SONG ON THIS ALBUM! SO FUCKING HILARIOUS! |
Kelly Clarkson – Since U Been Gone Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Wow. My ex-girlfriend, who I still have feelings for no matter how hard I try to let go, has been listening to this song alot, but I never really paid attention to the lyrics. Now I know what she's trying to tell me. Fuck... That sucks... |
Slipknot – Opium of the People Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Definitely a denunciation of organized religion, more specifically, Christianity. "Take another shot just to stay the same" - afraid of thinking 'outside the box' and questioning your own religion, so you stuff yourself with more of it. "Oh, my god, it's Judgement Day and I'm not prepared" - Sarcasm. Another form of the all-too-childish 'Ooooh, I'm so scared'. "Do one thing and say something cryptic, but the styles always clash" - trying to point out hipocrisy and multi-interpreted cryptic passages in religion "my nails are tight inside my wrists" - obvious reference to Jesus Christ, also the "sacrament" he refers to. |
Slipknot – Prelude 3.0 Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This song carries a personal message for me: A certain person and I have some hostilities towards each other. We go through stages, from being unstable "friends" to a disagreement, to outright conflict, and then usually this other person confronts me in an attempt to return to the "friends" stage. However, nothing is resolved. We don't want to resolve anything, we just don't want these hateful feelings bringing us down anymore. ("Shed these bitter skins again"/"hide these little sins again") There's so much that we would like to say to each other, but we don't, we just stuff it down inside. ("I don't know why I never told you, I don't know why I never tried"/"I don't know why you never asked me, I don't know why you never cared") For me at least, somethings I don't say because in the other persons presence I just feel stupid or unjustified saying them, but once I'm away, I remember my reasons for wanting to say it. ("All the reasons come to life") But by that time, it's too late. ("Now it's over") I'm not saying that this is what Slipknot thought of when they wrote the lyrics, I'm just saying that this is how it relates to my life in particular. |
Slipknot – The Nameless Lyrics | 19 years ago |
For the longest time, I would skip this song when it came on. Then recently, I sat back and listened to it, and then I went and read the lyrics. Amazing. It almost seems to me like he's in love with someone...no. In love isn't powerful enough, he's completely obsessed. For whatever reason, they're leaving, and he wants to stop that from happening, even if he has to hurt them in the process. It reminds me of how I felt after my girlfriend broke up with me, but taken to the extreme. My favorite part (musically) is when they do the chorus for the last time with drums and distorted guitars (right after the "you deserve it" part). |
Slipknot – The Virus of Life Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Of all the songs on this album that people claim is "a stalker's story through his eyes" (and they say that about practically every song on the album) this is the only one that really fits the description. |
Slipknot – Vermilion, Pt. 2 Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This, and part 1, both seem to be about a girl that the narrator is attracted to, but for whatever reason, can never be with. It describes his despair at this fact, and "she isn't real" can be him desperately trying to forget about her by dismissing her as a figment of his imagination. It reminds me of my ex-girlfriend... |
Slipknot – Spit It Out Lyrics | 19 years ago |
It's a confrontation between two people. Basically, we bite our tongues out of courtesy towards each other, but in all reality, it's obvious that you don't give a shit about me, and your only purpose in life seems to be to ruin my life, and as for me, I fucking hate you, and want to kill you. So let's cut the bullshit. Let's quit being nice and just spit it out. All the shit we've been talking behind each other's back, let's say it to our faces. Then we can scrap it out, and when you're lying dead on the ground, it'll be one less enemy for me to deal with. |
Slipknot – Pulse of the Maggots Lyrics | 19 years ago |
To me, this song is about having a cause that is worth fighting for, and worth dying for, because without it, your life is meaningless anyways. |
