James Blunt – Tears And Rain Lyrics 19 years ago
I think that many more references to the Picture of Dorian Gray can be found in this song. The chorus says "All pleasure's the same" which is similar to the story because Dorian lives his entire life for pleasure. After living for awhile and never changing physically, he begins repeating the same pleasures over and over again and then eventually starts looking for different forms of pleasure. Also "i've heard what they say" and "It's more than just words" In the book, Dorian is influenced greatly by a character that says many of Wilde's most quoted lines. Although the character (Harry) says stuff liek "the only way to rid of temptation is to yield to it" he never follows these ideas to their full extent, whereas Dorian does. It is these words that first "corrupt" Dorian and creates him what he is. Towards the end of the novel, Dorian has become disgusted/frightened with his life and he is trying to find an opium den to forget everything. It is raining hard and outside is dreary and this part also connects with " guess it's time I run far, far away; find comfort in pain"
