The Dresden Dolls – Mrs. O. Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Well, everyone I talk to about this seems to thing that Mrs. O is the one denying the holocaust and stuff, but I think she's the one that actually tells all these terrible stories to the children "will you tell about the time they made you go all alone to the palace where they took your only clothes" She also tells them stories about santa clause, and other stuff that the children later isn't real. Then they start to think, if Santa Clause isn't real, what's true of the other things Mrs O talked about? what about the holocaust, what about Hitler, Hiroshima, Hell,... ?? I think this song is about the children growing up, and discovering that they've been lied to. Then they have problems deciding what's real and what's not, so they just decide everything was a lie, and tell Mrs O that they figured it out... |

I thiiiink.... it's about a book. I think one day she was reading a really good book, but page 672 was missing... but she wants to know what happened on page 672, so one day she'll find another copy and find out about page 672... (or not) |

at first I thought it was about how sex should change you, and not the other way around (you trying to change your sex) |
The Dresden Dolls – Slide Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I think it's about both topics... maybe it's about a girl who was abused when she was very young, maybe even too young to realise what was happening. But as she got older she starts to realise what really happened... "they're just playing, that's a good one" - she used to think they were just playing, she didn't know it wasn't all that normal "past getting brighter / light growing weaker..." - as the past is getting brighter and she starts to realise what happened to her, she become more and more unhappy "the pennies were loaded and as they exploded she starts to spin out of control..." - the gifts she used to get from the man (possibly her father or grandfather) were just to keep her happy, and when she finds that out, the gifts 'explode', they become painful memories... P.S.: about the orange man... in the lyrics on the official site, it says 'orangeman', and not 'orange man'. This might just be a typo, but there's this thing called the Orange Order, and the members are called orangemen... (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orange_Order) |
