Okay, wow, I am like really surprised that only 3 people have commented on this song... this song rocks, it really does... I agree with lewaffle about the whole ladadidadidadidadidadidadada part... that is seriously one of the best parts of the song... haha... I think the song itself is just a fun kind of song with not definite meaning... however, parts of it do have really clear meanings soo... "It's still the same She only likes me when I'm gone..." I think those lines are really good... it seems like Ben is talking about how his friend/girlfriend (something like that) only really cares about him when he's gone, like on tour or something... it's like he is saying that the only time "She" only really cares about him is when he's not there... and it's kind of like "She" is bored with him... as if she is too good for him or something.... --noticeable in the lines.. "She don't like me singin songs She don't wanna sing along..." it could also be like the guy is trying to get with this girl... but she's not interested or something like that... and so one night he gets drunk because he wants to be with her and then ends up hitting on a girl who already had a boyfriend, and naturally he was pissed soo he smacked him around a "little"... anyway, there are just a few views on the song... because nobody else has really said much... no address rocks, point blank. |

Well I really like how everyone interpreted the song... I mean they basically all make sense... and I just got this really craaazy random idea... and I'm not even sure if it makes sense to me... haha but anyway, here it is... I can almost picture like an awful car accident... there is a couple involved and the guy had been singing to the girl earlier in the evening (the first verse) and letting her reallllly know how much he cares about her and how he is always going to be there for him... "Don't forget I'll hold your head..." for example... then, as the 2 are just sort of sitting there, the girl tells the guy something awful, like she wants to break up or she cheated on him or she has to move... something like that... so hes ripshit and all, or course, so he leaves in a hurry and is driving down the road late at night just thinking of everything.... their relationship... good times... what she did... everything... and he has all these mixed emotions... hes furious, frustrated... sad... just completely a wreck... "In the car, the radio leaves me searching for your star A constellation of frustration driving hard Singing my thoughts back to me..." so all the while, he is thinking of all this... and he is thinking how much he loves her but how much she has possibly hurt him (maybe??) ... and so he's all worked up and ends up either getting hit by another car, or he like drives off a bridge by accident because he cannot think straight at all... so anyway as everything is happening (the accident)... everything sort of kicks into slow motion and his girl comes to mind... and he realizes that he is probably going to die or something like that.... and yet for some reason nothings really registering with him... its all happening so fast, but so slow at the same time... and like I said already, he thinks of his girl... and how he wants to always be there for her and all.... "But as you sleep, and no one is listening I will lift you off your feet, I'll keep you from sinking Don't you wake up yet, cause soon I'll be leaving you Soon I'll be leaving you, but you won't be leaving me..." so that is what he is thinking sort of... he is expressing to the girl (in his mind, of course) that he will be leaving her (he is going to die or something)... but she won't be leaving him because he will be able to sort of protect her in a way and keep her on her feet, stable... yeah so like I said in the beginning, I'm not sure if this even makes sense to me... just a random thought I got just now while listening to the song... soo.... there it is... btw, this song rocks |

I get kind of a different vibe... I mean I agree with a lot of what has been said by everyone... I mean about being in a relationship where you want to help a person and be there for them but you cant for some reason, like you're too far away or something... I mean it makes sense to me... but in a way, I think that from the liner's point of view, he is talking (well, more or less singing...) about how he's in a relationship that is starting to fall apart, in a way, and that he doesn't want to hurt the other person involved and wishes he could protect the other person from any pain that will be caused... also... "Never again will we fire this gun No never again you're the only one No never again but you're already gone." this part of the song makes me think that he did something to hurt the other person, like cheat on her or something, and he regrets it and all the pain that it has caused her... and he is saying throughout the entire song that he is willing to do anything for her, basically... but at this part you see that he messed up and that she is gone for good because of what he did... does that make annny sense? well anyway, absolutely beautiful song... SoCo rocks... and the North album really shows how they have all grown up and junk... brilliant. |

this song is so amazing... it's totally different than most rise against songs, but it rocks... completely. "I'll show you mine if you show me yours first" "Let's compare scars, I'll tell you whose is worse" "The winter's so cold, summer's over too soon" i love those lines, but i have to agree with just about everyone else... "I've got some friends, some that I hardly know, but we've had some times I wouldn't trade for the world" are the best lines, hands down... it's so true looking at life in general... i think that the song itself is about embracing life and being happy with what you've got, even if it's not much... ("we get by just fine here on minimum wage")... i also think that, like jazzy88 said, its about carefree times, more or less summers, when it feels like you're on top of the world, no matter what the circumstances are.... to get more specific, it think that the song is coming from the guys point of view and he is trying to sort out his relationship with this girl... (i could be completely wrong, but hear me out...) he's trying to figure out if they still have what they always had... ("am i loud and clear or am i breaking up, am i still your charm or am i just bad luck, are we getting closer or are we just getting more lost..")... it seems like the relationship, in a way, is being tested... kind of like the guy wants to move on in life, but the girl is happy with the way things are, however the guy loves his girl and wants to take the next step into life WITH her not without her ("i wont cross these streets until you hold my hand..") and yes, to agree with whoever said it reminds them of a bunch of friends hanging out on some front porch drinking beer and shit... i agree completely... i totally picture some run down little house with a rickety old front porch, and all these friends back from college reunited you know, drinking the night away and just having a good time.... this is suchhh a powerful song... dl it if you havent... |
