A friend or son/daughter is saying that it isn't that bad and that s/he would feel better with time. I think that this song is a self-reflection of one's life, in the first and third person point of view, which is caused by a near death experience. The person is recalling specific days in his life, the first part of the song is about the day he gave up on his dream/sold them out. "Well I was there on the day They sold the cause for the queen" He almost died and the experience is caused him to look back on his life. And he hates the way his life turned out. "And when the lights all went out, we watched our lives on the screen I hate the ending myself, But it started with an alright scene" Then he recalls his day in hih school and how he was treated like shit because he wasn't like everyone else. And in the end he realizes that he is "just a sad song with nothing to say". |

A couple of months ago I got so depressed and for a couple days I would just listen to this song for hours on end. What I'm about to write is basically me projecting my own issues on to the song. We're the kids who feel like dead ends- He and all the other people ( the typical "sad" musican, depressed people, people who attempted to commit suicide) feel like loser and that they wasted all the chances and opportunites that life brings. And I want to be known for my hits, not just my misses- He doesn't want people think of him as a failure. I took a shot and didn't even come close- he had a chance and he messed it up. And the poets are just kids who didn't make it- the poets are all the people who attempted/wanted to commit suicide. The "poem" they wrote is a suicide note. Who never had it at all- Never had a cance didn't know what they were doing. |

This is my take on this song. Whatshername wrote a "dear John" letter to the guy(Jesus of S./St. Jimmy). B/c of this he stops and looks around, figuratively, and starts to ask all the big questions. Like, where is my life going and what happen to me these past years? Things changed and he didn't and he wonders what happen. Hence, the line "Where have all the riots gone"? Either it means that he is feeling old and he isn't young any more( b/c mainly young people riot/rebel). Or that his attitude/actions changed and he isn't the same person he once was. Or both, since growing older changes people. And he is or his alternate personality is telling him "don't look back" on his past. B/c no one can step into the same river twice (some Greek philosopher said it) and that everything changes. So, J.O.S/St. J is conflicted about who he is now, the "dummy [who]failed the crash test Now collecting unemployment checks" , and the idealist when he was younger. This is kinda like a Wasteland (a show on ABC about people between 22-30) Song, since this guy is now .....I don't now where I was going with that. My favorite line in the song is "where will we all go when it's too late"? B/c it is an important question. Where does some guy go when he fucked up/wasted his life? And their is no chance of fixing the mess he is in? |

I think the first two lines are about him going through a period of time feeling down and depressed. He has a history of depression since he says, "it's been a long time since I felt so sick". And the "long walk home" is him not wanting to go back to his life. B/c how can a long walk be striaght back? He is unsure in himself and his life, hence the line, " I'm losing faith in everything". Being alone by himself he might of discovered a profound truth about himself or some event which shattered all that he believed in. It might be that he realizes that his life sucks or that life has no meaning which causes his depression. Or his depression could of caused him to 'discover the truth'. the second verse seems to be him looking back on the situation b/c he use to long for broken bones and a casket to call his own but he is done and over with feeling that way. |

O.K. I’m not going to analyze this song. But I was just wondering why Pete would try to kill himself, I know life sucks, but what were his particular reasons for committing suicide. I think the guy in the song has some emotional/mental issues and he becomes fixated on a person. Hence, the lines “When I'm stable long enough I start to look around for love”. And it eventually becomes a quasi-fantasy/daydream. “My mind begins the arrangements”. It is possible that the guy isn’t very attracted to the woman but he just want something to dream about or to be in love with. Also, the girl may not be a lesbian at all (mostly likely she is) he could just be guessing that she is a lesbian as a type of safety mechanism. He wouldn’t have to ask her out and deal with rejection if she was a lesbian. Maybe, he is attracted/fixated to the lesbian because she is a lesbian. If she was straight then he could ask her out and the two of them might not hit it off. And that would destroy his fantasy. If she was a lesbian he wouldn’t have to deal with having an actual relationship, he could just keep on daydreaming about the two of them together. I could talk about lesbian all day. Caused to a degree by the parents generation of hippies, who broke off a cultural traditions with the many 'revolutions' of the 60's and 70's. But I'm talking about this because I was studying Edmond Bunke ( the guy who said evil triumphs when good men do nothing) and the French Revolution. Bunke was against the French Revolution since he felt that a line of tradition, which helps create a stable and well functioning society. Anyways I was thinking about how the turmoil of the 60's-70's messed up this current generation. I think this song is about remembering the "good times" and about not wasting life. Also, something with a car crash. Like the line, "we spend our precious time pointing fingers" and " how can I breathe when fear chokes my every breath?" are saying that people shouldn't be afraid of living and not to waste time fighting with people, since it is just time lost with nothing achieved. I'm pretty sure their is some thing about a car crash with the lyrics, "how can I balance six inches from death? now, the momentum we've created comes to a screeching halt this angel comes crashing down on her hands and knees she crawls" |

Fatlip is one of my favorite songs since it is kinda saying fuck you all. Fuck all you biches that "knew" who I was in high school. Fuck all the kids that didn't talk to me. Fuck society. I don't think that MM is saying that religon is a waste. The song seems to be about Isaac former drug addiction and him trying to make a friend stop useing drugs before he dies, which in the end he does. Evidence 1. The song begins "Your body may be gone, I’m gonna carry you in. In my head, in my heart, in my soul." Which is basically about a friend that died and Isaac is saying that he will always remember him. Evidence 2. The lines, "And maybe we’ll get lucky and we’ll both live again. Well I don’t know. I don’t know. I don’t know. Don’t think so", aren't about him not believeing in God or an afterlife; but it is about him thinking that because of what they have done, possibily because of the drug use, they will not go to heaven and live again. Evidence 3. "You get away from me. You get away form me. Collected my belongings and I left the jail. Well thanks for the time, I needed to think a spell. I don’t think a while. I had to think a while." These lines are about Isaac quitting drug after being in jail. "The get away from me" is him saying that he isn't going to use any more drugs and the comment could be possibly directed to a drugdealer or his friend. Since his friend is still useing and he wants to stay away from drugs and people useing drugs. And the lines about jail and needing to think awhile are about him being in jail and thinking about his life. Evidence 4. "The ocean breathes salty, wont you carry it in? In you head, in your mouth, in your soul." this is most likely a personnal allusion about the ocean. Maybe thay spent alot of time their or something. Anyways the this could be a metaphor for wanting to live. The Ocean Breathes = The Will To Live. "And maybe we’ll get lucky and we’ll both grow old" are about Isaac talking to his friend and saying that they could beat their drug habit and live a full life. Evidence 5. "You wasted life, why wouldn’t you waste death?" This is about him telling his friend, who now dead, that his life and death were wasted because of the drug use. But this is all more my own opinion. |

This song is quasi-sequel to Good Riddance, since both are about life and how time passes by. But Good Riddance is about enjoying the moment and hanging on to the memories. Where as Wake Me When September Ends about lost and faceing the fact that time does go by and the sadness that follows. I like the whole use of the seasons in the song; Spring/Summer is a time of joy, happiness and life but Fall is about the ending of all that. And it is a symbol for life in general. Does anyone knows what "here comes the rain again falling from the stars" and "ring out the bells again like we did when spring began" mean? |
