lit_by_gunfire: the gist of the title is sex and alcohol, and that's pretty self-explanatory. "The dance of flesh on flesh has rendered us blind" means they had sex and it fucked up the relationship, and having "bacchus" in the title makes me assume they had sex as a result of being wasted and bad judgment. |

" MANIPULATION from their FANS to make the music THEY want to hear, because fuck what Tom wants to make, right? Yet AM still said "fuck everyone," and made this record how they fucking wanted. I have so much respect for them because of that. |

I miss it too, god I miss it so much, but I mean this is the evolution of a band, and we just have to accept it. They're still Against Me! and they passed up so, so much fucking money to make this record uncompromised. This song is about what they were going through trying to do this exactly the way they wanted and not get caught up in what other people were expecting/wanting. After all, it's their music. They're not singing for us. |

"It's a lie, a kiss with opened eyes, and she's not breathing back," is obviously CPR being used as a metaphore for something, like he's trying to save the girl (from herself), but it's not working ("she's not breathing back"). |

That has nothing to do with relationships, it's not a metaphor. He was hanging out with someone at a track and they were sitting on the bleachers/sidelines watching him run and run and run because he was all hopped up on cocaine. Conor IS literal some of the time. |

I think it's "smile in a flash," ...like whoever they're singing about is prepared to put on a mask/smile in a moments notice. in general I think they're talking about someone who used to not give a shit and was, "one of the rotton ones," but got caught up in superficial ways and now the person they used to be, "isn't coming back." They're perfecting themselves to be accepted (bleaching their teeth, caking on the foundation, pretending to be happy), but inside they still feel displaced and they talk shit about themselves and the way they're living now (under their breath of course, they wouldn't want the crowd their trying to please to realize they're not perfect/perfectly happy). unfortunately, no matter how much they want to fit in with these other people, they still find themselves ending up back at the person who's singing the song ("under their window"). When the singer says, "park that car, drop that phone," I see it as a plea for the superficial one to cut the bullshit out (drop the cell phone, forget about her shiny sports car), and come back to way things were when she used to sleep on floors (sleeping on floors is infamous for being associated with punks and the "rotton" lifestyle) and dream about the singer, and wasn't denying she loved him. ....uhhh, does anyone else see it this way? |
