I believe this song is about meth use. It's no secret that Conor Oberst is the biggest methhead of the genre, so it makes sense. The "fragile" are those who have just started using. They steal from people to support their habit. They steal things and sell them for nothing. That kind of gold washes off. These people sell fake stolen items to gather up drug money. The sad is when the person realizes what their life is and try to stay out of sight and out of harm's way. They are paranoid of everything so they hide in the shadows. They hate themselves and wish they could warn people when they come by so that the people don't have to look at them. Then they start needing the drug to function and when they can't score, they become the savage, angry animals. They are willing to commit serious crimes for the drug. And many of them do. The wicked are those who have no hope left. Those who no longer eat, those who cook the stuff up. They bake in the canyons. They look around and search for victims (people to sell meth to) They collapse from lack of the drug and call to them. The desperate ones are those who have totally lost everything. Homeless. They can't afford drugs anymore and they need it more then ever. They will run down forever (run downhill in search for the drug) They always end up together in a disgusting street alleyway somewhere. During the choruses, it's not so much informational but more emotional. This is where they express their horror and misery. The barren land comes alive at night and becomes dangerous. But the massive stalks of corn fence them in. The wind carrys over sounds of a better world from behind the corn stalks but they can't get to them. The stalks begin to sway as a wolf (or something dangerous) shuffles through. "Don't leave me here with only mirrors watching me". Don't leave me alone. The house holds bad memories that are all he sees whe he looks around. The moon bleeds silver at night but it starts to bleed gray as the sun grows up. And he has to wake up and live it all over again. |

the whole album is a concept album about his earlier life living in chino. he and his friends were all heavily addicted to meth, which is probably the most frighteningly disgusting drug on earth. anyways, meth is an anorexant, meaning that after a while, the user no longer craves food. the meth will cure hunger. this song is simply a way of saying that his addiction had reached its highest point. throuhgout the whole song he's talking about ways to get himself to eat. "writes reminders on his skin. clips out pictures from magazines and hangs them on the wall"
i think that these lyrics are some of the most wonderfully written lyrics I've ever read. |

i think it's just so overdone. don't get me wrong, i used to listen to From The Depths of Dreams all the time. I thought it was well written and catchy. i didn't think the vocalist was good enough to be a stand-alone vocalist. but when Let it Enfold You came out, I just stopped listening to them. I thought it was a poorly written piece of shit. they were screaming to mask the fact the the music sucked. they were never muhc for talent (with expections for the bassist and the drummer) but at least they made good catchy music but on Let it Enfold you, i just heard a bunch of screaming jackasses whining about how their lives suck, even though they are probably swimming in cash right about now. i just think they need to chill out and stop whining about every little failed relationship. it's just so overdone. |

ScribnerVillage. awesome! i couldn't have put it better myself. i think this is one of the sweetest songs on the whole album. the guitar riffs are amazing, flea did an excellent job on the saxaphone, especially at the beginning. the duel between flea and omar further into the song is also amazing. the lyrics, i believe are about how the world totally missed the point behind religion and how thye are screwing everyhting up. |

this song kind of reminds me of that episode of Seinfeld where Jerry and the crew are arrested for just watching as the fat guy is robbed. They violated the "Good Samaritan Act" which requires civilians to help other civilians. They've done nothing wrong...but they've done nothing. They can't look away. But they're just looking. It refers to how people in America treat eachother these days. |

i definately like what FANElite said but i always thought it was about one of them falling into alcholoism and it was tearing their relationship apart. "this poison comes instruction free" (which, by the way, is probably the best line they've ever come up with...i love it). "You'll burn me" Maybe hes talking about how it hurts him how shes killing herself with liquor or something like that. maybe vice versa. i dont know. or perhaps its about how his friends girlfriend is having affair with him. he really likes her but dosent want to sacrifice the friendship for her. "id rather live life in regret than do this". he really wants her and knows hell regret it if he pushes her away but hed rather have his friend. either theory for me. |

i like the relationship theory but i always thought it was about ATD-I. becasue Jim "worked his ass off for that band and they (Cedric and Omar) decided they would just leave when it got good" i think it sort of touches on how jim loved his band and it just kind of collapsed in front of him and tehy were nothing he could do about it.
I think "the future is falling short" is reffering to the fact that ATD-I was just hitting it big and had a bright future head of them and then suddenly, it was all over.

I think Jim Ward is the host and he trusted his friends Cedric and Omar but they "tied his mouth shut" and left. When the blood grows thin, hes given in. Jim protested against seperating the band but eventually gave in. "Spare us the formal toast". to this day, Jim remains enraged about the end of ATD-I so the formal toast refers to Cedric adnj Omar wanting to remain friends and leave on good terms but Jim just pushed it aside and said "fuck it. spare me. i dont care"
"you know when it falls apart (and so on and so forth)"
that part refers to jim realizing that he's being a dick and contemplating renegotiating speaking terms with his friends in the mars volta. "you'll set it down" is him finally letting go of his past and moving on to make good music in the band hes in now. |

I just read through a lot of this. I read OldskoolrockerJTS's post and well...I think hes a goddamn douchebag. Sure, I like most of the bands he called real rock bands but still, your allowed to like more than one style of music. People don't listen to TBS becasue their songs are easy. People listen to them because they like the music. Oldschooler is a fag. He thinks hes so goddamn big just cuz he listens to Metallica. good for you. if your seeking complexity, dont look for it in TBS. let the fans enjoy the lyrics in peace. They don't want to keep finding douche bags whining about how much they hate emo music. And by the way, just becasue you listen to emo music dosent mean your an emokid. Sure, a lot of them are. You know what. I liked Taking Back Sunday before they fucked everything up. John Nolan fucking made that band worth listening to. He brought the talent and emotion into Taking Back Sunday and along with his departure, he took their futures with him. Sure, everyone likes this Where You Want to Be bullshit but people who know the old Taking Back Sunday should be disappointed. Plus, even before John left, Adam was still a fucking fag. His voice is great and he wrote some amazing songs, pretty much everyhting on Tell All Your Friends but he was still a fucking fag. I saw a live video and all it was was Adam acting like a retard, pretending to have seizures and making "broken heart" motins with his hands. Shit. Just sing the goddamn song. Plus, the new guitarist who does the "I've got a bad feeling about this" thing looks like Haley Joel Osment with a beard. |

*RESPONSE: Simplistic is an absolute dumbass. Jimmy Eat World is a good band. He says go and listen to some real bands like Further Seems Forever and Yellowcard and such. One thing, if your complimenting Further Seems Forever, it is not proper to say Dashboard Confessional sucks before it as Further Seems Forever was started with Chris Carrabba as the vocalist and as the founder of the band so he should either get a clue adn think up a smart arguement or shut the fuck up. I saw Further Seems Forever when they opened for Sparta. They sucked ass. I love Further Seems Forever but their new singer makes them hard to listen to. Secondly...Yellowcard just sucks ass and anyone who listens to them is a stupid preppy fuck who spends Saturday nights watching MTV and voting on TRL. Sorry for the hostility. True, it is the best song on BLEED AMERICAN without a doubt, seeing as muhc of the album sucks in comparison to Clarity and Static Prevails. |
