Oingo Boingo – Private Life Lyrics | 4 years ago |
I think he's gotten into a rut where he's comfortable with his private life, where everything is neat and clean, but he knows that he's gotten himself stuck in a rut, and he wants more out of life than his quiet, comfortable existence in his home. |
Oingo Boingo – Only A Lad Lyrics | 4 years ago |
I don't think this song has any hidden meanings. I think the lyrics tell a story about a young man who has shown violent tendencies his whole life, but people have made excuses for him because he's "just a kid," or "only a lad." It's about people who make excuses for their kids' bad behavior because "they're just kids who don't know any better" instead of doing their job as the parents and teaching the kids about right from wrong. |
Mesh – Someone To Believe In Lyrics | 6 years ago |
This is about someone caught in an emotionally abusive relationship. They know the other person isn't treating them well, and they know it's unhealthy, and they know they should get out, but they just can't because they're so attached to the other person. They dream about being with someone they can believe in, someone they can count on, someone who will treat them the way they deserve, but they just can't break away from their emotionally abusive partner. So they dream of someone they can believe in, and they hope that somehow someday they will be strong enough to break away and find that person. |
Tom Petty – Hurt Lyrics | 6 years ago |
So I guess it's been over 10 years since I've written in my journal here. Interesting how times have changed. I hardly ever come to this web site anymore. I spend most of my time on Facebook now. But I figure I'm more anonymous over here, and nobody is reading my journal entries anyway, so I can write what I want here without having to worry about anyone judging me or criticizing me. I'm mainly hoping that by writing it down, it will help me gain some perspective. So here I am, 48 years old, and my life hasn't changed at all since I last wrote a journal entry here. I'm still having relationships that don't work out. I'm still falling in love with emotionally abusive men. I don't know what to do. I don't know how to change it. At my age, I want and need stability. I don't want all of this chaos in my life anymore. I don't understand why I still attract the crazy men. I just want someone I can count on. My most recent boyfriend is paranoid and crazy, possibly even schizophrenic. He has admitted that he's supposed to be on medication for mental illness, but when I ask questions about it, I'm the bad guy. Any time I try to talk to him about anything serious, I get told that I'm being disrespectful. Most recently, he dumped me after I was "disrespectful," but what I was really doing was looking out for him and trying to protect him from getting hurt. I don't understand why he can't see that, and why he doesn't want a girlfriend who looks out for him because I'd give anything for a boyfriend who looks out for me. But that's not him. It'll never be him. Now he's not speaking to me and he doesn't want to see me. I'm so sad. I don't understand. I miss him so much. |
Seabound – Poisonous Friend Lyrics | 7 years ago |
It's about an abusive relationship. |
Secession – Touch (Part 3) Lyrics | 7 years ago |
Secession. Just like it says. |
The Human League – The Sound of the Crowd Lyrics | 9 years ago |
It's "parting wave." Having said that, I think the song is about a group of friends in the 80's, going out on the town and checking out all the beautiful people. Where the people look good where the music is loud. |
Mesh – Headstone Lyrics | 9 years ago |
It's about an abusive relationship. At this point in the relationship, the abusee (I'll just refer to it as a woman) is still trying to figure out what's going on. So she tries to defend herself, and she doesn't understand why he is being so combative. |
Beborn Beton – Spawn Lyrics | 9 years ago |
It's about the downfall of society, and how we have to pass it on to our kids. "We're giving the stuff to the spawn The show must go on" Our kids are going to have to deal with this crap when they grow up. |
The Go-Gos – He's So Strange Lyrics | 9 years ago |
It's about a rape. He's coming out tonight He'll walk outside the light You'll feel him very near Confusion nothing's clear His presence cold and stark Like a shadow in the dark You're scared but you won't run You almost wish it was over and done Speaks for itself. You can't escape the thought of him Do you wonder why? He's so strange And if he brought you down to your knees Would you cry? He's so strange He frightens you so much He could burn you with his touch Everything has changed He's so strange You've lost all track of time The victim of a crime He's stolen heart and soul He's taken all control Is this some crazy dream? Obsession the main theme Though you can't see the chains You're the prisoner of a love so strange |
Terry Jacks – Seasons in the Sun Lyrics | 10 years ago |
He is dying of something like cancer of AIDS. He speaks to his wife, his father, and his daughter. Very powerful song. |
Eric Clapton – Forever Man Lyrics | 10 years ago |
It's a GREAT song! |
Blutengel – Forever Lyrics | 10 years ago |
This song is obviously about vampires. I kiss the blood from your burning lips I lick the blood from your shivering skin I give you eternal life That's will never tear us apart In the coldness of your grave I hold you in my arms... forever I will give you eternal life... forever I will give you eternal fuse I'm pretty sure the last word is supposed to be "youth," not "fuse." I mean, think about it: what is 'fuse' supposed to mean? Vampires have eternal life and eternal youth. This song is about vampires. |
De/Vision – Heart Shaped Tumor Lyrics | 10 years ago |
It's about suicide. "Put an end to yourself." It's really about the sadness of being in a relationship with the wrong person, or with someone who doesn't feel the same way about you as you do about them. Once you realize that, life may not be worth living. So maybe you'll decide to put an end to yourself. |
De/Vision – Bleed Me White Lyrics | 10 years ago |
This song is about an unhealthy relationship, where one person is being either abused or controlled, but they're putting up with it because the sex is so unbelievably good. |
fun. – Some Nights Lyrics | 11 years ago |
His sister was not raped. She was in love with a man who was not in love with her, and he ended up breaking her heart, but he got her pregnant and she ended up giving birth to his son, the nephew mentioned in the song. |
M.I.A. – Paper Planes Lyrics | 12 years ago |
It is a sample of "Straight to Hell." Glad to know I'm not the only one who noticed that. |
Mesh – I Don't Think They Know Lyrics | 14 years ago |
It's a violent relationship that ends in murder. You can tell white lies And walk away from here You can tell your side And never see the clear He'll let her live if she keeps her mouth shut about the abuse, but if she tells anybody what's really going on he'll kill her. And you can tell it all I'll stop you if you stray And save you saying something you should never say And you can spell it out I'll help you win the day And I will stop you saying something She's better be careful how much she says to other people, because if she says too much she'll be sorry. You could have his hands Wrapped around your throat And you could see your face Covered with your coat She's said too much, and now he's angry. He tries to choke her, then tries to smother her with her coat. I don't think they know They didn't see you arrive They didn't here you go I don't think they know They didn't see you arrive They didn't here you go This is a reference to neighbors who may have heard the struggle while he was choking her and smothering her. He hopes that they didn't see her arrive or hear her go. If you find a brave face And wear it for the day I will find a suitcase And we could melt away If she will smile and keep her mouth shut, he will take her away on a vacation. And you can tell it all I'll stop you if you stray And save you saying something you should never say And you can spell it out I'll help you win the day And I will stop you saying something... He's warned her, but she didn't keep her mouth shut. Now she must die. I don't think they know They didn't see you arrive They didn't here you go Nobody saw her arrive or heard her go. Nobody knows what happened. |
M.I.A. – Paper Planes Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Maybe it's just me, but I think the part about "taking your money" is about selling their record. |
Altered Images – Pinky Blue Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I love this song, but I don't think there's any deep meaning in the lyrics. I think the song is just supposed to be silly and fun. |
The Waterboys – Fisherman's Blues Lyrics | 16 years ago |
It's about a lost love. And it's about fishing. Great song. |
De/Vision – Your Hands On My Skin Lyrics | 16 years ago |
It's about being in a relationship with a person who is no longer in love with you, but you're still in love with them. |
Muse – Stockholm Syndrome Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think this song is about a dysfunctional relationship. Not necessarily abusive, but unhealthy for both of the people involved, because they're both miserable, but they can't seem to break away...maybe because the idea of being on your own and starting over is scarier than the idea of staying with the person who is making you miserable. You're used to the pain, and on a certain level you've learned how to deal with it; but if you were to break away, you don't know what could happen. You might end up even more miserable than you already are...or, you might end up finding happiness...and if you're used to being miserable, you probably have no idea what it feels like to be happy, and unfamilar things can be pretty scary. I've loved this song since it first came out, but I never really gave much thought to the lyrics until now. I've been in a volatile, on-again-off-again relationship for the past year, and I don't really understand why. In other aspects of my life, I'm pretty clear-headed...but when it comes to my so-called relationship, I somehow convince myself that it's going to change and we're going to be happy. As of right now, the relationship has been 'off-again' for over a week. I haven't heard from him and I don't know where he's staying - and I'm worried sick about him, even though he treated me like shit and called me names and hasn't made any effort to contact me since. If he were to knock on my door right now, I'd let him in. I know it sounds insane, but it's the truth...and I think it's exactly what Muse is referring to in Stockholm Syndrome. |
Foo Fighters – Skin and Bones Lyrics | 17 years ago |
AlissaLuLu, I agree with you. This song is totally about an eating disorder - either that or drug addiction. |
Dave Gahan – Dirty Sticky Floors Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think it's about drug addiction. But the dance remix is about a dance floor. "Dirty sticky floor." |
Talking Heads – Air Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I think it's about STD's. Kinda creepy, when you think about it: "What is happening to my skin? Where is that protection that I needed? Air can hurt you too Air can hurt you too Some people say not to worry about the air Some people never had experience with air..." 'Where is that protection that I needed?' He's referring to a condom...and now it's too late, because he's already had unprotected sex and been infected with an STD. |
Orange – Hollywood Lyrics | 18 years ago |
It's obviously a song about Hollywood. I live in Hollywood, and I can honestly say that every word of this song is absolutely true. There's something about this place...it's dirty and sleazy and full of panhandlers and prostitutes and crackheads. But for some reason, millions of people come here with big dreams, and most of those dreams get crushed, but we stay here anyway, hanging onto that last bit of hope that someday it will be different, someday our dreams will come true because we're in Hollywood. "I'll be here till the end." That line pretty much sums it up. |
Transplants – Not Today Lyrics | 18 years ago |
i think it's more specifically about the music industry and censorship. great song. |
Transplants – American Guns Lyrics | 18 years ago |
It's about the amount of money the U.S. government spends on weapons. |
NOFX – The Marxist Brothers Lyrics | 18 years ago |
please disregard my last comment. i don't know what the hell i was talking about. i posted that after only hearing the song once, but since then i've heard it many more times...and i think it's about rich yuppies pretending to be into anarchism or socialism because they think it's 'cool,' but really they don't get it and never will. "I'll get this one, put it on my card I get frequent flier miles and a book of upgrades So next visit the third world I won't have to fly second class The people's revolution is gonna be a podcast" this is obviously about someone with plenty of money and frequent flyer miles, etc. who thinks it would be really cool to be a part of the 'revolution,' but in reality they live a very sheltered life...so they have no clue what the 'revolution' is really about. ok, i think i'm done now. |
The Eyeliners – Think Of Me Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This song is about somebody who was lied to and ultimately fucked over, and they're pissed off about it. I would be, too. "Why did you act like you'd build me up When all you wanted was to take me down I hope you think of me when you're burning in Hell." That says it all, right there. |
NOFX – The Marxist Brothers Lyrics | 18 years ago |
i think it's accusing Rage/Machine of being sellouts and comparing them to Chumbawumba, whose song "Tubthumper" is one of the most annoying, obnoxious songs ever recorded. |
The Offspring – Hit That Lyrics | 18 years ago |
i think it's about a child of two parents who are no longer together and both of them are really promiscuous, so the kid grows up seeing his parents acting this way and it messes up his head. |
Guttermouth – No Such Thing Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I suppose this song could be some sort of metaphor, but to me it's pretty clearly about sex. |
New York Dolls – Trash Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I think it's about drug addiction. |
Wolfsheim – Once In A Lifetime Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I think he's about to commit suicide by throwing himself into the ocean. |
Social Distortion – Sick Boys Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Sick boys = Bad boys. And in the last verse, how women are always drawn to the bad boys. Awesome song. |
Front Line Assembly – Epidemic Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I think it's saying that people are spending so much time on the internet, they're isolating themselves from the real world and ultimately destroying themselves and they don't even realize it. |
Squirtgun – Mary Ann Lyrics | 18 years ago |
These guys REALLY sound like the Ramones. |
Dead Kennedys – Dog Bite Lyrics | 18 years ago |
i think it might be about high gas prices. whatever it's about, this song rocks! |
Against All Authority – Another Fuck You Song Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I think it's a great big "fuck you" to the music industry. |
The Aquabats – Fashion Zombies! Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Definitely making fun of goths. Brilliant song. |
Bouncing Souls – Kids & Heroes Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I think it's about being abandoned or neglected by one or both parents when you were a small child. Nothing in life is a sure bet anyway You're gone Guess you weren't here from the start In the end It's all a question of heart. Could be about any sort of betrayal, I suppose. Could be a deserted lover or an abandoned child. Someone who loved you and believed in you and trusted you, but you left anyway. |
Dag Nasty – Never Go Back Lyrics | 18 years ago |
It's about realizing that you're not getting any younger. |
Dead Kennedys – Riot Lyrics | 18 years ago |
ShanghaiTheBastards wrote: I love how he sings this song. Kind of like an excited and slightly confused 10-year-old. But doesn't Jello ALWAYS kinda sound like an excited and slightly confused 10-year-old?? :) Don't get me wrong, I'm not cutting him down in any way. I have tremendous respect for Jello. As to the meaning of this song, I think it's about the mob mentality during a riot, how it takes over and people don't think about the consequences of their actions. "Tomorrow you're homeless. Tonight it's a blast." |
Bane – My Therapy Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I think this song is about online chat rooms. |
The Aquabats – Look At Me (I'm a Winner)! Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I think it's about getting over someone and realizing that you're better off without them. "Look at me, I'm a winner." That's just a guess, though. I really have no clue what this song is about - and I don't even care, because it ROCKS!!! |
Negative Approach – Nothing Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Lots of 'angst' in these lyrics. Great song...but there's some serious angst going on with these guys. I can relate. |
Dead Kennedys – California Über Alles Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Never mind - I got it. I posted the lyrics under "Jello Biafra." |
Dead Kennedys – California Über Alles Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Does anyone here have the lyrics to Jello Biafra's new, 2005 version of this song with the Melvins? I think the title is "Kali-fornia Uber Alles 21st Century." I've been searching for the lyrics online but I haven't had any luck. |
