:(

"It's nice to be important, but so close to being despised
It's more important to be nice, I guess, than being wise"

-Machiavelli and Hitler wrote to lead, one must be feared as well as loved

maybe it's more important to be nice....than to be "right"

I love the parallels drawn between a war on logic and love in an intimate relationship...and the obvious war going on in 2009

simply beautiful...all comments valid, true.
isn't his raw emotion and the play on the quote, "The war is over," fabulous?
when I first heard the first chorus, I knew where he was going...

"This war ain't over....

Modest Mouse – Medication Lyrics 15 years ago
IN MY MOST EXTREMELY HUMBLE OPINION:

True Paul Wall's right...drug's = distractions.

Can't clean the dirt, so we'll just lemon scent it (FAVE LINE!!!) The dirt doesn't need to be cleaned. We have some weird distractions from what's really important in life. We are weak, if we can't take the pain, without numbing ourselves. Then, we're numb to the positive things, especially MORE than the negative, self-loathing depression, that continuously requires those "meds" and keeps us WANTING TO BE DEAD.

We DO have to make our own happiness, and his two emotions are depressed or numb (while distracted.) The middle is NOT "happy". It's oblivious to LIFE...that's nowhere near happiness. The sun gives seratonin....;~) you can TREAT yourself better than NUMB. ;~)

I love you, Modest Mouse. The beginning and end aren't SAD...they're TRUTH.

(Instrument and background sounds: DEPRESSING)
This is the part of me that needs medication (Or so we're told)
This is the part of me that believes in heaven (Out there...not attainable now...in here...in me)
This is the part of me that thinks outer space is all dead (When I am)
This is the part of me that wishes it was with it (Why not LIVE?)
This is the part of me that's trying to be funny (DISTRACTION)
This is the part of me that loves my parents (And only MINE)
This is the part of me that thinks that ants are cavemen (When I am)
This is the part of me that thinks all humans are ants (When I start to think..."Nothing really matters. It all dies. It all goes. It all fades. It's so small and pointless")
This is the part of me that learns from sitcoms (Instead of MY OWN LIFE!!!!! out running about, making music, FEELING)
This is the part of me that means nothing (How many things do I do that MEAN NOTHING?)

(Instrumental-background: black hole)
And I don't know (Don't want to know...don't want to think, to make it better on my own...the ONLY person I can control)
Where I could go away and you could wish
That I had stayed or just stayed gone (Because I just bring down those I love when depressed and let them bring me down, instead of lifting everyone UP)
And I don't know (Distracted)
And I don't know at all (Don't want to know)
So, out of the context and into what you meant (Doing just the opposite of what would help...saying "Nothing..." when SOMETHING IS WRONG)
And you know your reasons (You KNOW exactly what's wrong, you do not say it [secret family problems and lack of motivation and despair and shame in what you do on a regular, day to day basis])
You don't know who you are (You don't consider what YOU DO)
But you know who you want to be (Self-explanatory--all the GOOD)
I don't know (Numb, numb, numb...not thinking about it...anything)
So you go to the library to get yourself a book (DISTRACTION)
And you look and you look (Search...still feel discomfort...need drugs)
But you didn't find anything to read (Need more drugs)
And I don't know at all (Even with a "numbing" DRUG, feel the pinch of NOTHINGNESS, BLANDNESS, BLEAKNESS...despair, more, deeper depression...more people KILL themselves ON THOSE DRUGS prescribed for depression than off the pills...look it up)

(Instrumental: on or off the "drugs", still ignorant to their own life, birds, chirping, beautiful sounds, coupled with the despair of the instrumental)
Left all my kinder parts rusting and peeling (Left the youthful HOPE and TRUST and LOVE of others in their world a loooong time ago)
That guy was complaining as he looked at the ceiling (Doing nothing about it)
My nose isn't that big, it looks nothing like me (Self-conscious, wasting opinions on meaningless nothings)
We're all doctors trading sadness for numbness (Not many AMERICANS especially KNOW or HAVE LEARNED how to BE HAPPY, BE LOVE, BE LOVING, BE GOOD TO THEMSELVES WITHOUT WHITE, LITTLE PILLS, GETTING PLAAASTIC SURGERIES! YEEEK!)
Grass looks much greener but it's green-painted cement (You make your own grass...make it greener...water it...love it--LOVE THE ALLEGORY OF THAT LINE...AND THE LEMON-SCENTED ONE...like a fake nose, or tatas, or green-painted cement, lemon SCENTED, fake foods, fake atmosphere, in caves [back to that caveman line from the beginning in our rooms...epidemic in Asia and America...relationships with computers and televisions instead of HUMAN COMPANIONS and COMMUNION with NATURE, MUSIC, and PEACE, and TRUE HEALING])
The mayor's machines are there cleaning the pavement (Why is OUR money going to WASHING PAVEMENT?)
You can't make dirt clean so we'll just lemon-scent it (WE HAVE SOME LAME AND TRIFLE CONCERNS, HERE, PEOPLE! GET OFF THE DRUGS! SPEAK TO LEGISLATION ABOUT WHAT WE DO IN OTHER COUNTRIES, BECOME A COMPASSIONATE, HUMAN, VEGAN, MAKE LOVE, TO YOUR PLANET AND SELVES, DO GOOD, FEEL GOOD, BE GOOD, TAKE CARE OF WHAT YOU LOVE!!!! YOU AND YOUR LOVES' LIVES!!!! AND LIVELIHOOD!!!)

SORRY, HAD TO DO IT!

slight corrections: "All the good I tried to do was corrupted when ORGNIZED religion got into full swing"

"I wanna set things straight with homosexuals, RiGHT NOW: I DON'T hate ya!"

SOME OF THE BEST LINES! EVER!

"See, I wasn't the creator/I was more the curator of nature"

"Last time I sent down a message, you nailed it to the cross"

"See all the elements were already here, long before I began
I just kind of put it all together
I didn’t really think out a long-term plan.
I made the sun an appropriate distance and laid the stars across the sky
So you could navigate the globe or simply watch the sun rise
I covered the earth with plants and fruits,
Some for sustenance and some for beauty
I made the sun shine and the clouds rain so their maintenance wasn’t your duty
I tried to give each creature its own attributes without making them enveloped
I gave you all you all your own space to grow and in your own way space to develop"

God is in us all. Religion is dogmatic. Just love and try for god. He/She/You/Me/We'd all appreciate it. Just appreciate what we have and give back. Care for our mother who cares for us.

See the video on YouTube.com and don't stop watching til the very end

Modest Mouse – Steam Engenius Lyrics 16 years ago
I WAS born in a factory.
I was kept in the hospital two weeks after being born...with machines instead of mommy making me healthy.
An animal will reject it's young if separated from birth.
Veal never touches the ground.
It slides out it's mother and is placed in a crate the size of the creature, keeping it tender for heartless robots to eat.
Heartless robots who cry Whoo hoo Whoo hooo over their car dying.
Waiting for the government to make ALL your problems better
Waiting for a computer to live your life for you
Religion, life... follow the lead, like a rickshaw pulling another
We pull each other in circles
We are not natural
We are clones, replicas, heartless robots

Ted Leo and the Pharmacists – Treble in Trouble Lyrics 17 years ago
What? No comments???!!! Blasphemy!

This song is about health.

This song is about the lack of health care system in America. I feel Ted's pain and anguish in the words and sounds expressed. He's screaming out for you, America. "You're in trouble! Trouble! Trouble!"

You borrow time 'til you are hurt. You borrow without medical insurance to INSURE that if something happens to you, your fellow citizens and government care enough for you to provide for you. Or you borrow lifetime working away for insurance IN CASE something ever happens.

Ted is a very healthy, loving, spiritual vegan. He has no health insurance. He walks a line, banking on the fact that he'll be fine.

Others DO NOT fare so well.

Ted knows.

Ted cares.

I care.

Do you?

Who does?

Does the money-machine: Coca-Cola? Cancer Institutes? McDonald's? Meat factories? Kaiser PERMANENTe? Permanent. Permanent. Permanent pain, suffering, and confusion over dis-ease and a human being's right to BE. How to be? How to be healthy.

C.D.C. abbreviates Centers for Disease Control. They spread vicious fear-striking rumours, by way of their friends at the press.

The N.I.H. (National Institutes of Health) won't stand aggressively against the corporate machine either. They're just running scared.

The A.M.A. (American Medical ASSociation) could give a f*** less about you, your seven prescription pills on average per day, being American, or the suffering you and yours will have. They will continue to be PAID for keeping you a sick CUSTOMER...because--after all--doctors need jobs, right?

Interpol – The New Lyrics 18 years ago
Pizeach, you are right. Everything IS about drugs. Everything IS a drug: music, marijuana, cocaine, heroin, sugar, coffee, cigarettes, alcohol, redbull, music, religion, relationships...anything you can lose yourself in, affects you like a drug. You can lose yourself at moments and enjoy the beautiful drugs of life, but you can't lose yourself forever...that's when it becomes an addiction or obsession or what a lot of people perceive as "love."

"I wish I could live free/I hope it's not beyond me"

In an exclusive relationship you are not "free". You are WITH someone. You are "theirs". They are "yours." People "wish" they were free, but it seems to be beyond their power. It's much easier for most to lose yourselves in someone or something you usually get along with instead of seeking out other loves and expressing free love because it is so looked down upon...like "men are pigs" and girls who enjoy multiple relationships are sluts.

"Settling down, it takes time"

Settling down and learning to adapt yourself to your drugs, addictions, obsessions, religions, and LOVES takes time and effort

"One day we'll live together/And life will be better/I have it here, yeah, in my mind"

Good thing it's in your mind since it's not in your life

"Baby, you know someday you'll slow"

People always say this about men and "wild girls" who will eventually settle down

"Baby, my heart's been breaking"

People break each other's spirits in relationships, they break themselves down to become one, and they break their own hearts

"I gave a lot to you/I take a lot from you too"

People give and receive the good and the bad

"You slave a lot FROM me"

Self-explanatory

"Guess you could say/I gave you my edge"

Misery loves company, so that's what they share...the edge...the poorer qualities...the bitterness...the misery

"I can't pretend/I need to defend/Some part of me from you"

Some parts of a person are theirs. They don't need to change it or hide it from ANYONE. Stop pretending in order to protect the pride of another, by letting parts of yourself get taken away by them (I know a woman, a thirty-something-year-old woman in an adult, exclusive relationship who asked me to re-compliment her hair-cut in front of her partner because he said she looked like a little boy. If he loved her and fully believed in her beauty, no hair-cut could change that, and the pride he holds in having "his woman" look a certain way disgusts me)

"I know I've spent some time a-lying"

I know people who lie about things they FEEL (love for others, or simple things like a girl hanging out with me--another girl, friend--and "HAVING" to lie about it to her boyfriend) because they "HAVE" to be a certain way in relationships...they "HAVE" to dedicate themselves to their drug

"I can't pretend"

Stop fucking pretending

"I don't need to defend/Some part of me from you/I know I've spent some time a-lying"

I shouldn't have to defend myself from someone I love. Maybe he's talking about how he lies about not wanting others when he really does

"Why am I doing it"
(Maybe, "Why am I doing this"; "What am I doing"; "What am I doing here"; or "Why are we doing this")

Basically he questions why he's letting the DRUG ABUSE continue. I think he is also ending it.

"You're looking alright tonight/I think we should go/You're looking alright tonight/I think we should go"

Since the song is titled "The New", I bet he found a NEW girl and has that sexy Paul Banks desire to go home with her. He will either fix himself up and learn to be free or continue the cycle again just with a NEW girl. How most people do.

Bright Eyes – No Lies, Just Love Lyrics 19 years ago
I think this song goes a lot deeper than we expect.

I think the worst thing is that everybody makes everything about themselves. That's Conor's realization and salvation at the end. After attempting or contemplating suicide, ANOTHER's life makes him change. Noting all the bad in the world to the point that drives you to suicide, makes it quite difficult to have pure, welcoming thoughts to help bring another into this world because it just seems like a waste. What is there to live for if no good comes of it? Why bring more into that kind of a world?

So, he'd like to make some changes before the baby arrives so there is good because if he just submits to the poorness of life instead taking the time to improve it, his brother will follow, then probably the child, and every miserable, suicidal seventeen-year-old (like I was), and eventually everybody will get too tired...and there'll be nothing left to do but sleep. When so much sadness recycles and builds, all it will do is recycle and build until it destroys us all.

Don't you think we wouldn't be getting so tired of life if we changed something to make it better? Don't you think that we shouldn't get sick of our own lives? I think you do, I know I do, and I know Conor does. So, let's stop with lies keeping us down, and just love.

The Beatles – All You Need Is Love Lyrics 19 years ago
Good job spreading love, folks.
Do me a favor...do The Beatles a favor...do John Lennon a favor...do everyone a favor...do yourself a favor:
LOVE...just love...everybody...including yourself...please.

"Nothing you can sing that can't be sung"
You aren't new. Stop holding your pride in your identity and differences. Enjoy all of the differences of all people. Stop fighting because someone is either better than you or completely opposite in some way or another because everyone is. Embrace and love the differences in others and share your interests that are similar.

Looks mean shit. Cars mean shit. War is shit. Religion means shit. Everything means shit, but LOVE. All you need is love...and not that lame, pathetic dream-love...REAL LOVE, unconditional, friendly, helpful, true, pure love. Forgive, never forget, learn, understand, and turn that knowledge into compassion: a love that CAN NEVER DIE.

Bright Eyes – Hit the Switch Lyrics 19 years ago
"so, i do what i do, and AT LEAST i exist. what could mean MORE than this? what WOULD mean more? MEAN MORE."

As he scolds himself for going about life the way that most do, he can teach you what not to do. "AT LEAST I exist" is in NO WAY a positive outlook. To exist just to exist and spend the majority of your existence in misery, is no existence...no worthwhile existence, anyway.

Conor doesn't just exist. He creeps into our minds and whether we realize it or not, he holds beautiful courses on life and living. What could MEAN more than just existing? He doesn't repeat "What COULD mean more?" He questions, "What WOULD mean more?" "What COULD mean more?" is rhetorical. "What WOULD mean more?" is challenging. What would MEAN MORE than JUST EXISTING; or throwing your life into vomit, nasty, sick, near-death mornings; or throwing your life into a substance that kills your beautiful body and mind, kills your brain cells, your capacity to reason, love, change, care, believe in absolutes, not commit wrongs, just love and live happily and do what you know is right. You or he or anyone can base existence on the principles that doing what Conor is doing makes him feel like shit every morning and everyday and in the process of drinking every night "alone at a table of friends". Living life to its fullest doesn't mean getting wasted and forgetting half of your life or spending it sick.

I hope that he is questioning himself and all of us to FIND "what WOULD mean more...MEAN MORE"

Bright Eyes, Ted Leo & the Pharmacists, Muse, Postal Service, and a few others are gods in their right nowadays, postmodern gods. Postmodern, life-lesson enlighteners. Brilliant, beautiful minds just pouring their wisdom all over my body through verse and instruments that tingle my spine. Through the tragic hopelessness of it all, the dark, angry, sad, suicidal words, I hear hope in the upbeat sounds. Their songs' ends provide revelation and guidance. They all probably DO write to keep their sanity. They write to teach and learn about life. That's what their music is for. That's why they should be more well-known. Spread the beauty of these minds for the betterment of our world and our lives...OUR EXISTENCE, a MEANingFUL one.

I thought "the red oak tree will carry your loss/when you alone can't carry that cross" meant that the golden finch was using the red oak tree as a kind of sanctuary or safe haven from the world and the things it cannot--at times--carry alone. The finch is spending its time learning/teaching about the world, and often, that can be unbearable.

In my opinion, he is of course, like most said, talking about the friendships we make and lose. I think he wonders what he misses Johnny for because he knows that missing him won't bring him back and even though they had good times, they're over now and he's going to make new friends. He is just honoring the beauty of friendship and the sadness of loss.

Only making peace with the loss can help us accept that "birds must fly" (we must die). Yes? No? Maybe? I think so.

Ted Leo and the Pharmacists – Parallel or Together? Lyrics 19 years ago
I wish more people understood the complete f*ing genius of Ted Leo. Not only does he write the lyrics and melody, he directs the band to what he wants, and no one can even comprehend his remarkable creative power. Most miss the message in his songs because maestro is symbolic, and it may be hard to catch such insightful words...most mistake his songs as sappy, relationship bullsh*t. F*ck! Sorry, I just wish everyone could see.

He is talking about ALL people's relationships with EVERYONE, and their own lives. He is talking about social discontentment and discontentment people have in life and our absence in effort to really change what we do that makes everything so miserable. He is planning to use his words "all the little pieces of a song" to fit all of us together. When he says we are not "together" but "parallel", it is because we don't truly feel for each other...we only speak words with no backing, we do nothing to end our discontentment.

Ted Leo's lyrics are usually far deeper than a first guess, so really mull them over before you end an opinion...becuase he isn't just complaining about a girl breaking up with him...he's trying to create world peace and happiness and betterment for all. I love Ted Leo and everyone, EVERYONE, EVERYONE!!!!!!! must listen and learn from the absolute smartest person I have never met, unfortunately.

Ted, if you ever see this, I want you to know that you are my #1hero!
I love you and your beautiful brain and voice and ah, everything!

The Postal Service – Clark Gable Lyrics 19 years ago
YOU MUST READ THIS! This song is NO love song. It is the epitome of an anti-love song. Well, at least 'ideal' love...the whole-film-like-crap-forced-down-your-throat-since-birth-never-gonna-happen love. He is mocking a want and need of love by saying "I want so badly to believe that there is truth/That love is real/And I want life in every word to the extent that it's ABSURD"...like the movies you see. Does anyone have love like a movie? No, that's absurd. He struggles with wanting to hold onto that ideal.

He realizes that you CAN have perfect love...it just doesn't last forever. So, he gets one girl that he really loved, puts their love in a film, and closes the case. It's like he said to himself, "Okay. You want a romantic-film-like love...fine! I'll make a film with someone I loved, and I can watch it and have perfect love whenever I want." He found the solution.

I think the music has a sort of harshness to it, especially for PS. I think that just enforces the point to everyone to listen up and realize that you're never going to find that perfect love, so stop acting so naive.

Then, that whole "I know you're wise beyond your years/But do you ever get the feel/That your perfect verse is just a lie/You tell yourself to get by" (my fave part) is both points being argued...I'll explain:
He says that the perfect verse of love is just a futile lie told to keep people hopeful and dopey.
She retorts that his verse of criticism is just a defense mechanism because he's been burned in relationship-ville.

They come to the conclusion to fuck, basically...because doesn't it usually boil down to a good roll in the hay to make you feel loved? *sarcasm* Sarcasm to implement further that he finds the movie-love ridiculous.

It is insightful and painful, but maybe he can be happy without one-true, fantastic (fantasy) love. He still had her love once. He can find it whenever he wants, in his film. (not a porno, but that would be kinky!)

The Postal Service – Sleeping In Lyrics 19 years ago
I think this song is HEAVEN...a dream of a beautiful world, that he'd like to enjoy longer. He has to sleep in to get away from stupidity.

Revelation, I agree...we should be helping create this dream-world in our reality...so, love thy posting neighbor. If you don't like a song, don't listen to it, but don't go into a pit of adoring Postal Service lovers and post sh*t talking...it's a worthless waste of everyone's time...and makes you sound more boring than who you bash.

I think "Everything was exactly how it seemed" means that at-face-value, we would see that the man "Who shot John F Kennedy" was just "Severely confused". He sees that that is what needs to be addressed, not the conspiracy, but the problem with the individual man who would shoot someone.

If we were all doing the things we should to help out all we can...big and small, from "Treating others as they'd like to be treated/Obeying stop signs and curing diseases" we could very well be rewarded. Maybe, the swim in November isn't plausible, but I don't think it's sarcastic...it's just about as likely as people doing all the other good things that are in the song.

I like that the "November" line is cyclical...I was pleasantly surprised to hear that connection. I love how "Don't wake me/I plan on sleeping" behind "We can swim any day in November" sounds. Like I said before, this song is HEAVEN...lyrics, instrumentals, quirky sounds, and all...HEAVEN!!!!!

Interpol – Not Even Jail Lyrics 19 years ago
I think the "If things come alive" line correlates with "Remember take hold of your time here/Give some meanings to the means/To your end"...he wants you to bring yourself to life, bring meaning to your life, and make things better.

How incredibly inciteful: "When personality is scarred tissue/We travel south with disuse". When all of your personality is based upon recovering over tragedy and your outlook is grim, you go south (keep things going in the same direction as you're feeling, continue the pain)

That's why I agree with "I'll subtract pain by ounces" being a drug reference...a little substance abuse to distract him from the pains and dramas in a life where people seem to not even be alive.

Oh, god, I love that line "I promise to commit no acts of violence/Be it physical or otherwise"...it's the "or otherwise" that gets me. We cause much violence that is not physical and it is often undetected or unmentioned. Sometimes, we put ourselves in a jail of pain that we feel we deserve. He wants us to get out.

Interpol – Say Hello to the Angels Lyrics 19 years ago
Lyric corrections:
"Come, wait/Come, wait/Come, wait/It's over/1-2-3, Do me"
"Can I get there this way/I think so"

I think it is a story of a relationship sans love. I think he has that whole 'loss of virginity' connection to the girl "You're linked to my innocence", yet neither of them are connected in any way...other than sexually.

That's not a bad thing...they still share something...and I love the lines "Your hair is so pretty and red/Baby, baby you're really the best". Beautiful, no matter what it means...and that "Move into my air space" line...ooooh, creamy!

I do think he is dissatisfied with the lack of love in the relationship...so, he should get out...and get around.

Interpol – PDA Lyrics 19 years ago
I think it's speaking about religious "Sin" in some way. Think about him losing faith and talking to a priest. Especially since it says "grim rite" (rite: religious ceremony) not "dream right". I think he is questioning religion and slightly mocking it as well.

In this case, the "Simpleton" backing makes perfect sense and speaks one-hundred-fold why it is so hard to make out. If it is anti-religion or one certain religion, they hid it pretty well, probably to not upset people...like The Lost Messiah.

Interpol has no worst song...and definitely no boring songs.

Interpol – Obstacle 1 Lyrics 19 years ago
I find "Her stories are boring and stuff" to be one of the best lines I've ever heard (along with that entire verse)...it's funny but still a valid point, and his voice carries it as though it weighs heavy in the matter...It reminds me of one of lyrics' finest achievements: the utilization of the word "um" in a song: "My best friend's from Poland, um, he has a beard" (Roland) How f*ing awesome. Not every lyric to every song has to be literal genius...lyricists like to have some fun too...even the ones with melancholy music.

"Her Heaven is never enough" Best line in the song...sums it all up. The girl has good/bad qualities...point being: she'll never be enough for him.

"She packs it away" might be referring to all the crap she puts him through..."She puts the weights into my little heart/And she gets in my room and she takes it apart". Nothing he does is enough for her either.

Interpol – NYC Lyrics 19 years ago
"I'm sick of spending these lonely nights training myself not to care", I believe he struggles between, ingoring the painful knowledge of what a tragic world he lives in that he feels he can't change, and the realization that he is actually NEEDED to make the change. "It's up to [him] now" and "Turn on the bright lights" means to focus on the good that can change the bad instead of making complaints, such as "The subway is a porno". He has to make a stand and make the change. Simply taking inventory of what's wrong isn't going to make it right. He encourages himself and everyone to "Turn on the bright lights"...so, look for the positive, helpful message in each song because that is probably why the cd was given that title.

Torelian is SSSSSOOOOOOOO wrong. The only problem with their lyrics, is that they often have more meaning than most can comprehend. They're so deep and powerful and profound (and sexy, coming out of Paul's lips) and if you like them...support my slogan:

Ted Leo & the Pharmacists, Interpol, and Postal Service for World Peace! :) ... Listen & you'll hear, feel, and know what I mean!

Ted Leo and the Pharmacists – I'm A Ghost Lyrics 19 years ago
I think the song is renouncing and even mocking the idea of ghosts or possibly an afterlife in general "Where there's no rebirth". The line "Look you can't make a sound from six feet underground/Now you'll say you disagree/Keep my statistic [ghosts] around".

Some lyrics were left out, like in the first verse: "I'm a ghost and I want you to come close/'Cause I don't want you to miss me and misquote".

The missing last lines say, "You can never talk to me again, yeah. Talk to me again, yeah." I love the repetitive "Yeah-ee-ah-how" at the end. It might be inquiring to the possibility of ghosts, in incredulity: "Yeah? How?" Maybe, that's reading too far into it, but I like the idea. His voice...creamy!

Ted Leo and the Pharmacists – Little Dawn Lyrics 19 years ago
I've made it a point to listen to this masterpiece at least once a day...to lift my spirits and give me my daily Ted Leo fix! I'm feinding even as I listen to it. I also must comment on the "it's alright"...sing along to it...it makes all the bad in the world literally disappear for two minutes of your life...SO glorious!

Ted Leo and the Pharmacists – The High Party Lyrics 19 years ago
And what do you save? And what does it feel like to be saved? And can you pull - 2 - 3 - 4, pull - 2 - 3? Can you drink it down?

Wow! Amazing lyrics. Just drink those words in. This song gives me chills.

Interpol – Narc Lyrics 19 years ago
Beautiful song, but I think it has a lot more negative of a response towards relationships' absurdities.

"Touch your thighs, I'm the lonely one" contrasting "Oh, love can you love me babe" sends the message outright. It is the female perspective of needy, worthlessness in a relationship versus the male perspective of wanting her "In [his] space"...if you know what I mean...SEX!!! He wants sex, she thinks it's love..."And, show some love and respect/Wanna get some love and respect"...she has been taught that she is supposed to "Show some love and respect", otherwise "Don't wanna get a life of regret". On top of that, you have "Control me, console me/CAUSE THAT'S JUST HOW IT SHOULD BE DONE"! All the illogical insanity of a relationship. The other person hounds you...like a Narc.

"Promises, we'll make some/Will reveal our sense of right"...more of that "how it should be done" nonsense...the promises they make to each other reveal how right they are by being in a relationship where they "control" and "console" each other...because--after all--"That's just how it should be done"

"You should be in my space"
Not only could it reflect hooking up on www.myspace.com, it also reminds me of the line in Say Hello To The Angels: "Something's coming over me/I see you in the doorway/I can't control the part of me that swells up when you move into MY air SPACE"...sexual inuendo...he wants her "In [his] space"...SEX!!! That's why he wants her "In [his] life".

Sorry to take all the romance right on out of it.

But remember "That the gazing eye won't lie/Don't give up your lover tonight"...: )
Paul...I would love to be in your space!

Queen – Under Pressure Lyrics 19 years ago
Child Of Music may be on to something. I don't believe the pressure is caused by love but the difficulty to REMAIN loving under pressure. When under pressure, the "cynics" give up, while the "romantic" preaches that only love for others and ourselves will get us through this life in which our good friends are screaming, "Let me out!" What a beautiful song. After listening to it for 20 years it became even more beautiful than it ever was. I love this site!

Don't be so mad at Vanilla Ice...just appreciate the original that you love. Definitely stop with any anger towards those who cover it. They just love it as much as you do.
