The Lillywhite sessions were thrown out because as a whole, the band was unhappy with the way they turned out. They thought the songs were "too dark." However, copies of the sessions made it to the internet and were widely distributed. The band then decided to rework the songs from the Lillywhite sessions, make them a little lighter, and the end product was Busted Stuff. The Busted Stuff versions are all a little more upbeat and not as depressing.
I personally like a lot of the Lillywhite songs better, including Captain. I do like the line "Oh, I love, how you do me..." in the Busted Stuff version, but these lyrics don't have that line. I'm pretty sure that the lyrics on this page are entirely different from the Busted Stuff version. |

I agree with karmamama.....this song is hot and so is Dave. And yes, I would stop my daughter from doing Dave, but only because I would want him for myself.
Besides, I'm only 21 and don't have a daughter.
So therefore, I just want Dave for myself. |

I never really attempted to listen to this song before....but I'm glad I finally did. This is a beautiful song. It's straightforward (sometimes its nice to just listen to Dave voice and not have to rack your brain to understand what he means..) and about dying for forbidden love. Amazing. |

I'd say there are no printed lyrics because this song changes so vastly everytime he plays it live, but that's just my guess. I have heard a few live versions of this song, and they are always amazing, and seeing video of it gives me goosebumps. DMB is just phenomenal in every aspect. |

Back to the song...the way Dave personifies sex and love in this song (and others such as Crush, Rapunzel, When the World End) just completely blows my mind. Dave concerts have become almost spiritual for me, it's crazy. I've only been to three...but I've decided that I will make atleast 2 concerts annually for as long as the Dave Matthews Band remains in existence. They're just that damn good, that's all there is to it. |

I hate to break it to ya DaveMatthewsgirl....but Dave has been married for like 5 or so to a girl he was dating for around 8 years before that...maybe more, I can't remember. That lucky bitch, lol. He has twin daughters that are around 4.
Anyways, I only recently started listening to this song a lot and I really love it. Its about such a powerful love and desire...wow. Amazing song. |

I agree...people need to accept that everyone changes, including Dave. Of course his music is going to change over the years...get over it. I can understand how people can think the older stuff is better, at first I was disappointed in Stand Up...but after I listened to it more and heard most of it live, I learned to love it. Maybe I am a "new fan," but I still think a "true fan" would learn to love all of Dave's music. Obviously Dave feels a need to make the music that he does, so none of it should be written off. That's my opinion anyway...disregard it if you don't agree. |

Don't worry JKidd56...I preordered Stand Up from the Warehouse....and you'll have to forgive me for not knowing all the stuff about his rotations and his eras, I'm a new fan. I just love the music and I love him. I went to Columbus N2 and Cuyahoga Falls shows this year, and I swear I heard a WYA tease in Columbus. I don't have tickets to any more concerts which pisses me off now that he's been playing this song a lot :( |

This is one of my favorite Dave songs...it helped me get through some bad times. To me, this song is about realizing that you may have it bad right now, but it will get better. Also, maybe you think things would have been better for you if you had been someone else or made a different choice, but its ok because this is the way it is supposed to be and it will turn out right. The lyric "Dark clouds may hang on me sometimes, but I'll work it out." is probably my favorite quote/lyric ever. |
