Iron & Wine – He Lays in the Reins Lyrics 7 years ago
I think the song is about a life wasted / opportunities missed. The Spanish part:

"I never thought I would ever get the chance to take a different path towards a better life."

this song is about being paranoid that a girl is cheating on you... he saw her kiss another guy. telling himself it was only a kiss... but being paranoid that it's much worse.

it's all in his head. either he likes her and she doesn't like him (and so is with other guys), or he is just plain imagining being with her but knowing she's with other guys.

if that makes sense.

that's just my interpretation of it anyway.

the lead singer really is gay. yes.

the whole point of the video is that people are trying to stop him. throwing his dolls into the lake, freaking out when they're kissing during the soccer game... would they be doing the same had it been a girl? definitely not.

so what makes it so bad that its two gay boys?

in every song, when you hear the Bulgarian, they are marxist nursery rhymes sung by Mira.

Muse – Time Is Running Out Lyrics 19 years ago
I think this song is about addiction in general. sex, lovers, drugs, money, fame, war. I think the war/sex theme really shows through in the video (people meeting in a war room, the scene slowly progressing from an organized beat-driven dance, into chaos with the women dancing up against the men, and papers flying around).

I believe this is mainly an anti-war song, otherwise why even bring up the war theme? he could've stuck solely to love/addiction and drugs/sex.

also, I believe this is written from two perspectives.

"I want to play the game / I want the friction" vs. "you will suck the life out of me" -- multiple personalities, or two people arguing? maybe one person "realizing" and changing their mind, coming to their senses?

But back to the war theme... and the two-perspectives...

"Bury it" -- hide it, bury the war with sensationalism in the news...? "I won't let you bury it, I won't let you smother it / Our time is running out... You can't push it underground, You can't stop it screaming out." - people will eventually wake up and stop it? Why else would he refer to "OUR time" ? A relationship? Two people addicted to something?

I don't believe this song is just about one thing, but I do believe war, or at least human interaction and struggle in general, is the major theme. This is why it is written from more than just a personal point of view.
