Pink Floyd – Not Now John Lyrics | 18 years ago |
The second verse is apparently Roger Waters having a go at Alan Parker's attitude during the filming of The Wall. Waters didn't think he took it serious enough and just wanted to get it out and get it making money. |
Pink Floyd – Two Suns in the Sunset Lyrics | 18 years ago |
One of the most underrated songs ever |
James Blunt – High Lyrics | 18 years ago |
He could be comparing this girl to the feeling he gets when having a toke? That's just my take on it, like she's a drug to him. |
Pink Floyd – One Slip Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I can't agree andeweathers. I think the lines... "a momentary lapse of reason that binds a life for life" Refers to the binding of two people's lives when they have a child together. "the moment slipped by and soon the seeds were sown the year grew late and neither one wanted to remain alone" Seeds were sown - the most blatent reference yet to pregnancy. Year grew late also makes you imagine the aging process and the development of pregnancy. I'm pretty sure i've seen quotes from Phil Manzanera saying that Dave wrote this song about pregnancy. |
James Blunt – High Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Me and my girlfriend slept at a friends house. The friend needed to be at work for 6 so he woke us up and we got ready and walked to his work to drop his keys and stuff off. Ehen we were walking up this song came into my head. It was such a beautiful morning and I was with such an amazing person, I couldn't believe how lucky I was. That's what this song means to me. |
Queens of the Stone Age – Feel Good Hit Of The Summer Lyrics | 18 years ago |
It's 'No C-c-c-c-cocaine' |
Roger Waters – 4.56 AM (For the First Time Today-Part 1) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
First to comment, eh? Pros and Cons looks at a series of dreams that lead Roger to realise that he infact loves the woman that he is with. During the Animals recording sessions Roger was in the middle of a divorce from his wife hence the reason The Wall, TFC and this album all contain alot of references to relationships, break ups, evil women etc. This is Roger admitting the death of the relationship with the woman he loves. |
Roger Waters – 4.58 AM (Dunroamin, Duncarin, Dunlivin) Lyrics | 18 years ago |

During the Animals recording sessions Roger was in the middle of a divorce from his wife hence the reason The Wall, TFC and this album all contain alot of references to relationships, break ups, evil women etc. Roger comparing himself to the person who stole his woman. How he did everything for her and he built her a stable life and then someone else has come along and stole it all from him. This could well be a reference to his divorce as being in a huge rock band he'd have had alot of money that would've been taken from him when he divorced his wife. |
Roger Waters – 5.06 AM (Every Strangers Eyes) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
First to comment, eh? Pros and Cons looks at a series of dreams that lead Roger to realise that he infact loves the woman that he is with. During the Animals recording sessions Roger was in the middle of a divorce from his wife hence the reason The Wall, TFC and this album all contain alot of references to relationships, break ups, evil women etc. The voice heard at the beginning of the song is the saintly waitress that gives RW the reason to stay with his women. I think this song is Roger talking about how we all hurt and how we've all been 'there' and we can all associate with losing something or someone. We're not all that different. The last verse kinda concludes the whole album. It's oh so easy now As we lie here in the dark Nothing interferes it's obvious How to beat the tears That threaten to snuff out The spark of our love It shows he's beaten his doubts and fears and falls back in love with his woman. The Moment of Clarity rubber stamps this. |
Roger Waters – 4.50 AM (Go Fishing) Lyrics | 18 years ago |

During the Animals recording sessions Roger was in the middle of a divorce from his wife hence the reason The Wall, TFC and this album all contain alot of references to relationships, break ups, evil women etc. This song tells it's own story really, it's about a dream that Roger had where he and his ex-wife went and lived in the country for one summer until she cheated on him and took the kids away (Reminds us of a line on The Final Cut "Would you take the children away/and leave me alone"). Simple. |
Pink Floyd – Lost for Words Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I think this is the best post-Waters song. Shame it doesn't get enough credit. |
Pink Floyd – Arnold Layne Lyrics | 18 years ago |
According to Syd's girlfriend at the time there was someone who went around knicking clothes of washing lines which is what the song is about. |
Pink Floyd – Keep Talking Lyrics | 18 years ago |
It's not a good song by PF standards but it's a good song by anyone elses. |
Pink Floyd – The Final Cut Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Could this song be about trust? If you negotiate the minefield in the drive and beat the dogs and cheat the cold electronic eyes and if you make it past the shotgun in the hall dial the combination open the priesthole and if I'm in I'll tell you what's behind the wall If you do all this then you'll be able to see the real RW. He's asking you to gain his trust by 'beating' all these obstacles. And if I show you my dark side will you still hold me tonight and if I open my heart to you and show you my weak side what would you do would you sell your story to rolling stone would you take the children away and leave me alone and smile in reassurance as you whisper down the phone would you send me packing or would you take me home Again, seems to focus on the issue of trust |
Nizlopi – JCB Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I started to fill up when I heard it. Such a lovely song, so moving and so honest....it's just brilliant. I'll cry for real if this doesn't get to Xmas no.1. |
Pink Floyd – The Final Cut Lyrics | 18 years ago |
The video seems to focus on women that made the difference throughout history. You see women helping the war effort, women nursing, playing sports, Marylin Munroe etc. Since this song refers to Waters break up with his wife Caroline the video could emphasis the fact that for all the 'crappy' women out there are twice as many who will be remembered for the right things. |
Pink Floyd – A New Machine (Part 1) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
The worst song ever recorded by Pink Floyd? I don't doubt it. |
Pink Floyd – Not Now John Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I think the song is deliberately meant to stand out from the rest of the album. The whole of TFC is very anti-war and melodic whereas this gives a big, thumping rock tune. "we showed argentina now let's go and show these" The music and lyrics contrast with the rest of TFC. |
Damien Rice – The Blower's Daughter Lyrics | 19 years ago |
The Blowers Daughter he refers to is the daughter of his clarinet teacher when he was a bairn, simple as that. |
Pink Floyd – A Great Day for Freedom Lyrics | 19 years ago |
The album is about communication and as knerr19 pointed out the wall is the Berlin Wall. The wall stopped the two halves of Germany from 'communicating' as it were. It couldn't be more obvious, I mean just look at the page the lyrics are on in the CD booklet. |
Pink Floyd – Bike Lyrics | 19 years ago |
It's a love song. |
Pink Floyd – Lost for Words Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Right One = Rick Wright |
Pink Floyd – The Nile Song Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Pink Floyd go hard rock and do a bloody good job of it! Great song! |
Damien Rice – The Blower's Daughter Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I love this song. I only downloaded it tonight but it's had me close to tears. I can so relate to the subject matter. Been there, done that and I feel like i'm going back there again. Beautiful song. |
Pink Floyd – What Do You Want from Me Lyrics | 19 years ago |
It's based around an argument Gilmour had with Polly, yes but it also has alot of stuff in about Roger Waters. "Should I sing until I can't sing any more. Play these strings 'till my fingers are raw." - Sounds like a reference to the final days of Waters reign |
Pink Floyd – Coming Back to Life Lyrics | 19 years ago |
It's a love song. A boy meets a girl, falls head over heels in love with a girl but this girl is commited to another. This boy waits and bides his time never losing hope and he finally gets what he's been waiting for. "While you were hanging yourself on someone else's words dying to believe in what you heard" - The girl waiting for something from her current beau, possibly a marriage proposal? "While I pondered on this dangerous but Irresistable pastime" - It's sex, simple as that I love this song because it relates alot to what i'm going through at this moment in time. |
Muse – Hysteria Lyrics | 19 years ago |
The video is about a man going mental because the girl he's obsessed with rejects him. One thing I do find very intresting is that the video pays homage to Pink Floyd. The start of the video (camera creeping up the hall, maid cleaning and then trying to get in his hotel room) is almost identical to the beginning of Pink Floyd's The Wall. The song is about lust. Whether that be lusting after a woman or a substance I don't know. |
New Order – World In Motion Lyrics | 19 years ago |
50 Cent is just a John Barnes wannabe. John Barnes was shot 17 times. |
A Perfect Circle – The Outsider Lyrics | 19 years ago |
It's a partner of a drug abuser finally saying enough is enough and laying down the law. Faultline is the term used to describe a vein ("Put it on the faultline" - Put the needle in). Suicidal Imbecile is used because the person taking the drugs is risking his life in a stupid way. I could go through the song and find an addiction reference in everyline but I havent got the time. |
Howie Day – Sorry So Sorry Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I think this song is about a boy saying something that has been misinterpreted by a girl. Possibly this girl is a drama queen and very over the top and he is having to apologise even though he'd rather he didn't. Some of the lyrics are very scathing "i meant you’re outta line with your friends and all your jokes" but the chorus seems a little sarcastic "so i’m sorry, so sorry i’m sorry, oh no and i’m sorry, so sorry i’m sorry" |
Roger Waters – The Bravery Of Being Out Of Range Lyrics | 19 years ago |
It could also be about the Falklands War as the British had superior fire power to the Argentinians and could hit a target from twice the distance the Argentinians could so the British were effectively "out of range". |
Pink Floyd – What Shall We Do Now? Lyrics | 19 years ago |
It's not 'Store up leisure?' it's a continuation of the previous line 'Bury treasure for our pleasure?' :) Typical RW song, written in a list. It refers to what he can do to fill the Empty Spaces created by success and alienation |
Pink Floyd – One Slip Lyrics | 19 years ago |
About unplanned events (Pregnancy). |
Pink Floyd – Young Lust Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Iboseth - What Shall We Do Now was originally scheduled to follow Empty Spaces which is a list of things that can be used to fill the empty spaces. This starting just after Empty Spaces is all due to album space. This song is about a school leaver, a teenager who is obsessed with getting a woman and having sex hence the title - 'Young Lust' |
Pink Floyd – Not Now John Lyrics | 19 years ago |
The John mentioned in the title is the person who is singing. He is the normal English worker abroad - he can work hard, earn cash and go out after the shift and get 'pissed' or skive, get drunk and act like a yob. The excahnge between Waters and Gilmour is the exchange going on within this person. Waters character wins the final lines in broken English are John's words. |
