I can't believe that no one has commented on this song. It's one of the sweetest songs I've ever heard. "You don't even have to try, it comes easy for you The way you move is so appealing it could make me cry." Yeah it makes me cry. yeah! |

Pink Floyd – Sheep Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I think anybody who has read, "The Animal Farm" & has heard this song would certainly draw an analogy between their themes. But, I wouldn't say that they are exactly the same. In the song, "sheep" are certainly alluded to the commonality who are complacent and smug asthough, "everybody's business is nobody's business". And when things come to a head' they pay a greater price than what they would have if they had acted sooner. I can explain the song in three stages. Firstly, the sheep (the commonality) are complacent and inifferent when the storm is gathering. Secondly, things have come to a head and they can no longer ignore it. They fight their opressors, and pay a great price in exchange for freedom or (in undoing whatever wrong that was meted out to them). Thirdly, they again become dormant and start living smugly not having learnt a lesson. I think both Orwell's Animal Farm & this song speak of history repeating itself & one oppressor replacing another. I think, "The Animal Farm", is the bible of Politics. |
