Sloan – Coax Me Lyrics

Interesting thoughts lookche. Thanks for sharing them. I suspect there are several things going on in the mood of the song but feel that it is largely on Cobain and Love.
The second verse does reference the band Consolidated that was semi-big in alt music in early 90s. They were radical lefty vegetarians and of course their fans could be overly strident.
I think the last verse should say I saw his widow's peak on her forehead. |

Billy Bragg – The Short Answer Lyrics

As much as I like Bragg's political stuff, I always find myself coming back to The Short Answer. It really is well-written: sad, funny, romantic, and reminiscent.
I enjoy the lines you mentioned plus: "If she wanted to be a farmer's wife, I would endure that muddy life, I would dig for victory." Showing here how he would do anything to have her.
And: "no amount of poetry Would mend this broken heart But you can put the Hoover round If you want to make a start". Funny but also showing that she doesn't share his romance of the relationship.
And: "Her two brothers took me out Of circulation for the duration". Hints that family didn't like him either? |

Young Galaxy – Swing Your Heartache Lyrics

yes lyrics well done but I think there are two corrections to be made to final stanza:
Getting older doesn't always mean you've grown
Despite the contradictions that these words imply |

The Decemberists – The Infanta Lyrics

The elephant references remind me very much of the Elephant and Castle area of London which is said to be a play on words of the Infanta of Castile, who married Edward I of England. |

Ted Leo and the Pharmacists – Little Dawn Lyrics

I agree with salparadise. Also, "you can't believe you still walk the streets", I think just goes along with "she thinks she don't belong under the starry heights". In other words, she wonders about the meaning of her life and the point of going on. And he says, it's all right; when you're tired, I'll give you a hand. |

Sloan – The Lines You Amend Lyrics
|
What about all the references to drowning?:
Said you'd found a way to end it peacefully
I remember finding shoes near the lake under a tree
all you wanted to do was die
now you're on the ocean floor
Swimming out to sea
Trying to find something else
I found the words you wrote
Like, "What's so bad about dying anyway?"
I'm listening to the shells
And I won't forget you |

I think the video is kind of cool and matches the song style well. BTW, the guy in the video is Buck 65. |

Neil Young – Heart Of Gold Lyrics

I agree it is about searching for that special person but not just a lover but the best in oneself. Thus the 'mining for a heart of gold' and 'being in my mind'. |

Rheostatics – Claire Lyrics

Written for the movie Whale Music. Lyrics partly written in the original book Whale Music by Paul Quarrington. About a drug-addled hermit songwriter (think Brian Wilson) who has a pretty young girl (Claire) pop into his life and shake up his world. Beautiful really. |
