Iron & Wine – Free Until They Cut Me Down Lyrics 19 years ago
I don't see the theme of the cross here, but that's just me. I think that this is a man singing about his imminent excecution for the murder of or crime against a young woman. He keeps saying, "She begged me to take her home" making it her fault somehow. He's not really free persay, but will literally be swinging free on the wind after he is hung.

Iron & Wine – Each Coming Night Lyrics 19 years ago
I think the lines, "Your face has faded but lingers on
Because light strikes a deal with each coming night" are paralleling the "deal" between night and day in that light always follows the darkness of night. In this sense, the memory of of him may wane, but it will always return.

Iron & Wine – Radio War Lyrics 19 years ago
I think that this song is about two lovers, one of them sent off to war (World War I). She has gotten drunk and is contemplating suicide while reading the last letter from her lover who has been killed. The radio war is the reports of the war coming across the radio (pre-TV). The "beast never seen" is War itself and the reference to snow may be the season in which her lover died.

Iron & Wine – Cinder and Smoke Lyrics 19 years ago
I think that the metaphor here is the burning house (obviously) and he is using it to describe the catastrophic end to a relationship. To me, the last lines, "You’ll ask me to pray for rain, With ash in your mouth, You’ll ask it to burn again." are talking about his partner being unable to decide whether or not to end it or give it another shot. "With ash in your mouth" suggests bitterness and references the title.

Iron & Wine – On Your Wings Lyrics 19 years ago
I think that this song is pretty self-explanatory. I think that it's a prayer/explanation for the state of humanity and the way that we go through life.
