Paul McCartney – Freedom Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I like to think that McCartney tried to write an absolutely atrocious cliche-ridden song as if to say "in the free world, I can poison your ears with this aural cancer, we need some authoritarian action guys." But yes. I know I'm deluding myself. Anyway, the meaning is "hey guys, doesn't freedom rock?" And thats about it. |
Jawbreaker – Boxcar Lyrics | 19 years ago |
It's meant to show just how pathetic it is to denounce people for not fitting up to a label. Basically, it's saying that "if you think the scene is about that, fuck you I don't want to be a part of it." Notice that " You're not punk, and I'm telling everyone." Sounds almost something like a kid would say to another kid in the playground, it's meant to emphasis the childishness of it all. |
Dead Kennedys – When Ya Get Drafted Lyrics | 19 years ago |
If you aren't proactive and don't take an interest as things are building up, it will come back to haunt you. A lot of kids won't care that there's a War until they're forced into one. |
Devo – Mongoloid Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I've always seen this, as the song saying the guy was an absolute idiot and the writer being bemused of how nobody could notice such a blatantly obvious thing. However, I've read some interesting theories that it's commending a mentally disabled person for being able to lead a normal life. I prefer my original theory though, its a lot more cynical and Devo-like. |
The Replacements – Unsatisfied Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Pure teenage angst. Our generation has wealth, convenience, assortment of gadgets, plenty of career opportunities but are you really content? Something is missing from our lives. I think that's what this song is about and it applies to our generation probably more so than the one Westerberg wrote it about. |
The Replacements – Skyway Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I think it's about irony really. What we call sod's law in England. Like what Joefeenus said, the one time he takes the skyway, she takes the bus. Although I think the song's story can be interpreted as a metaphor for those many times when a love just wasn't meant to be for whatever reason such as bad timing. |
