Well if you can get the idea from the song, they're not happy how fat wreck/NOFX operates, so why the fuck help continue that operation? Fat Wreck signs single record deals, if they didn't like it they should of just left and avoid getting egg on their face like they just did. |

Holy christ this is stupid. "And "the" is a metaphor for giant red dragon eating children." Just because its a song doesn't mean its filled with fucking metaphors. I'd say chances are this song is about a soldier who's guitly about lifes he took during combat. He won the war yet he's taller when he sits. The fiddler has nothing to do with the reaper, nothing. Fiddler's green is old fisherman's folklore of heaven. Its been carried down for generations and thus has expanded beyond just fishing folklore. The fiddler is the greeter of heaven(the green), and despite how long he's been doing this the death of a child, the seperation of child from parent is still a saddening experience for him. The rest of the song is just simply singing about death. So I mean if you really wanted to simplify it, the song is about Saint Peter, there I said it. |

Yeah not to mention theres actually only one white person in NOFX, that being smelly their drummer. Anyway since it was awesome to see a flood of le tigre/ bikini kill fans, I'd figure I would have a go on the side of NOFX.
Kathleen did in fact hate Fat Mike for his songs about (fat) S and M lesbians. And since the rest of the band played the songs, they got brought down with him.
Speaking serious shit against a band because of obviously sarcastic lyrics(even though in 'Liza and louise' there is an undertone of women's liberation) is pretty lame in the first place and Kill Rock Stars was probably nothing more then a press release on to what they thought of the situation. Le tigre then put out deceptacon(which is catchy as fuck, but when you are as subtle as calling lyrics dumb, well it ruins the point). However on NOFX's end the song fell on deaf ears and actually led to Le tigre selling out, being used by many major corporations, including a jewerly company that has a history with blood diamonds.

I find it funny how propagandhi had the nerve to write a song like this then signed with fat wreck to release the CD in the US. I'm sure there could of been a million other record labels they could of released it on that would of given them just as big coverage with less pay! Caroline, mystic, hell cat just to name a few. I had a friend who was killed when a driver who fell asleep hit him from behind while he was riding his bike. I relate well with this song. He was 15. I was a pallbearer at his funeral, me and another guy were the only ones who weren't family. I hadn't heard the song then as I was still only listening punk but when a friend sent me it over msn and it hit me hard. It hit even harder when I looked into the details of the song. I've been in about 7 car accidents and about a million close calls since his death and everytime I come out unhurt. Even though I'm an athiest I can't help to think of it. As well I can think of my father as well. He was killed in a car accident back in 98. Sometimes I like to think I have guardians on the road.

I love how this thread turned from the Decline to the origins of punk. I'm going to give 2 definitions here. Lets start off with the obvious:
1) Punk is the expression of dissent and angst either towards the government or another party, regardless to what other people feel towards it(Thats why emo is considered under the punk genre, that and the similarities that can be seen in point 2).
2) 3 chords catchy chords a simple drumline and lead singers who cant sing(exceptions have been seen for the following three). An all time fav, the misfits fall under this, however glen danzig is a fucking great lead singer. Their lyrics are much more goth bound but the music is plain punk
3) Against the mainstream. However like number 2 there are exceptions. Recently Against me!(somehow I doubt half of the people in this thread know who they are) sold out to a major label, yet they still remain an extremely respected band in the scene. NOFX does not fall under this as they have never been signed to a major record label, keeping to their own roots. They are hardly mainstream compared to larger former punk bands such as greenday, the offspring, no doubt(yes, they used to play ska, it was good for a time), blink 182, etc. And probably a more noticable card to people in this thread Anti-Flag. Any success that came to NOFX's records were done so by word of mouth(Punk in Drublic being their biggest success).
Yeah now for the decline.
Stupid brainwashed people vote for corrupted government officials twisted by the church(bribes) and their own greed who make the stupid people happy by giving them stupid things(Gun rights, war). Some of these people get fucked by the system.
