Acroma – Sun Rises Down Lyrics 16 years ago
Just like the lyrics "I can do anything now", thats the mood this song puts me in. I think it has something to do with using that infrequent, brief flash of insight that sometimes finds us to help follow your dreams.

Bad Religion – God's Love Lyrics 19 years ago
I think this song is comparing God's love to the likes of fairies, peter pan and other make-believe phenomena. The song does not disparage God himself, but only mankind's interpretation of His "love". To me, this song is about how people look beyond logic and reason when they are faced with despair and pain.

Bad Religion – New America Lyrics 19 years ago
I knew this song would be one of my favorites after just the first line: "Do you know the cost of future misery?" To me, that is our society's failure-to much short term thinking, to much self gratification...

There is more to punk rock than beats-per-minute. Bad Religion will always be punk to me.

Oingo Boingo – Insanity Lyrics 19 years ago
I think this song is about pressures of religious conformity. How it is being more and more idealized by today's elite religious leaders and shoved onto the working class by means of guilt.

The "I'd like to see..." lines are the voice of the evangelical preacher as he gains more and more influence, power and control over society. The reason they are demented is because, he doesn't really have our best interests at heart, after all -- he just wants the control.

Fastball – The Way Lyrics 19 years ago
Jeez, can't anybody read? (lyricizer420). If you look above the comment box, it says "What does this song mean to YOU?"!! So nobody is wrong... Personally, I prefer to hear people's own interpretations, not just the one intended by the writer.

Adema – Giving In Lyrics 19 years ago
Whatever happened to Adema? They came and went so fast...

Well, I don't think this song is about alcoholism or addiction as much as it is about depression. The point where it feels like it is easier to give up on life and stop trying, stop living. He is giving into depression, not drugs or alcohol. The substance abuse is just his method of dealing with his depression because it is easier than facing it.

At least thats what the song is saying to me.

The Offspring – Spare Me the Details Lyrics 19 years ago
Another song in which Offspring offers their simplistic philosophy on dealing with girls -- Ignorance is bliss. "Self-Esteem" is also great and has a similar theme, I think.

Ana Johnsson – Life Lyrics 19 years ago
Lots of folks tend to spend thier time rationalizing decisions, over-analyzing situations, hedging themselves against life's uncertainty. I like this song because it lays waste to that perspective of thinking. Its about going after your dreams full-throttle, good or bad, win or lose -- just living life rather than "thinking" about living. Kind of like the Nike ad, "just do it"

Not really sure about the meaning of the song, but I like the line "I wish you wished I wished you love".

System of a Down – P.L.U.C.K. Lyrics 19 years ago
So much talk about war. According to a book called "The Fourth Turning", their is a premise backed by many historians that war is cyclical. "Catastrophic" war occurs on average approx every 80 years:

Roughly 80 years ago was the Great Depression and World War II. Roughly 80 years before that was the Civil War. Roughly 80 years before that, the Revolutionary War. Roughly 80 years before that, Glorious Revolution of 1675-1704. Roughly 80 years before that, the Armada Crisis of 1569-1594. And roughly 80 years before that the War of the Roses (1459-1487). Well, its about that time again. The next war might be the War to end all wars around (2010-2020). War is part of life. People just can't help it.

Oh, yeah - Great Song!

Ana Johnsson – We Are Lyrics 19 years ago
I like this song, but I've never seen the movie. To me, this song is about personal responsibility and how our society blames our problems and circumstances on anyone beside whose fault it really is -- ourselves.

"Devil on the doorstep" is saying the devil is closer than we think; "fail to recognize the enemies within" is saying that, actually, the devil, (or the source of our problems), is within us.

In the song, the devil (us) is sitting on the picket fence advising people to blame others and advocates living a life of gaining "power" and "control", and shunning responsibily. Most people "riding piggy on the bad boys back for life", or are just going along with what the devil says, but the singer, is one that sees through and is telling the devil, "no, you are wrong, we ARE responsible".

I think the message is until we learn to take resonsibility for our circumstances, then we are on a collision course with loneliness, unhappiness, soulessness, or whatever.

XTC – Dear God Lyrics 19 years ago
To Me, this song is very sad. It is sad because of the letter writer's ignorance. He thinks of God as some kind of cosmic bellboy for whom we can press a button and have all our problems solved. The letter writer acts like a spoiled kid and thinks God should fix mankind's screwups just like his mommy and daddy fixed all his. He looks 100% at what God doesn't do and dismisses the things that God does do. For instance, the gift of freewill.

I love this song. But TO ME it is sad because of this. But that is why I like it, I guess.

BTW - Tool are not aetheists, they are just anti Christian.

Queensrÿche – Silent Lucidity Lyrics 19 years ago
Okay, so its about lucid dreaming, but who is the "I" in the verses:

(I) will be watching over you
(I) I'm gonna help you see it though
(I) will protect you in the night
(I) I'm smiling next to you

Queensrÿche – Lady Jane Lyrics 19 years ago
I don't know, but it is a great song. I think maybe the girl has Extra Sensory Perception ("Sensory perception peaking at this time") and she is in a psychiatric type environment or something being monitored by doctors ("we're playing a new game"). The only reason I would guess this is because of Silent Lucidity which talks about lucid dreaming, a related mental experience.

Oingo Boingo – Mary Lyrics 19 years ago
What makes you think she turns to prostitution?

I thought the song was about a girl who left the safety, comfort and ignorance of home and wanders off, like a nomad on a spiritual mission, a conquest of her soul. I think it is a spiritual journey, because of the words, "she left all her friends to wander all alone" (almost like a modern day Jesus) and "That mountain that she had been taught" (mountains are stereotypically places of gaining insight) and "she grew so much inside" (inside, meaning spiritually). Anyway, she returns home to free her parents and friends from their [religious] ignorance (they are probably conservative catholics), and finds she that they are incapable of understanding her revelations.

Papa Roach – Between Angels And Insects Lyrics 19 years ago
this song is pure philisophical genius. materialism truly is the evil of the modern world. people chasing after unfullfilling material worth and never finding happiness... one line, "the heart, the soul, the soul, the life, the passion" - that is what we should all focus on.
