Mystery Jets – MJ Lyrics 15 years ago
No, it is about incest.
I came here from an interview with xFM about the album, and Blaine says of the secret in this song "There's one line in there that changes what you think the song's about".

The line being, I reckon:
"We laugh but if father"
Not your father, or my father. But father. OUR father.

Listen to it again, and think why they'd be in the bath together if it's all secret.
(And people who reacted so badly... have you never listened to any Pixies?)

Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Gold Lion Lyrics 18 years ago
I heard it was something like some child said it, or something?
I dunno, don't even know where I read it.

I am intrigued how this album will turn out.

And...21st May? Me too! Birmingham!
So excited!

Gwen Stefani – Cool Lyrics 19 years ago
I swear Ms Stefani is out to conquer the entire world.
Once again, after a couple of days of initial cynicism, I have been shaken into loving this.
It really strikes me as a spiritual sequel to Don't Speak- but I am not that familiar with No Doubt's stuff (this has pushed me to get familiar with their albums though because through this song I keep hearing great things about the old stuff)

Morrissey – America Is Not The World Lyrics 19 years ago
I came to this same conclusion upon reaching the line about Sinatra. When I started reading, I got really angry, especially with the hamburger bit (I always assumed this referred to the foreign world and I'm pretty sure Morrissey knows where the hambrger was invented, he's an intelligent man against animal abuse) ....but then I realised it was just a joke, so, well, whatever...nevermind.

This is an ace song, kind of self-explanatory but it's great to see it can spring so much (politically-charged) discussion.

Kaiser Chiefs – I Predict a Riot Lyrics 19 years ago
I've changed my mind. Just like that.
I'd put it in the previous post, but there's no edit function.
it's about more than chavs.
It's about a more general social degradation and how you can't even get a proper argument anymore. Arguments aren't listened to, they're shouted over.
Who're Leodiensian and Smeaton, anyone know?

Kaiser Chiefs – I Predict a Riot Lyrics 19 years ago
I think this song is definitely about the chav invasion, the new phenomenon sweeping the UK.
They inexplicably think they're this country's social elite.
The song captures the minute's social climate so perfectly, in the way I think Blur's Girls & Boys did at the time. But it's a universal idea, that the ignorant masses think they are superior- not me being snobbish, I'm not talking education or classes here, just the chav attitude.
I'm just awed by this song.

The Smiths – Shakespeare's Sister Lyrics 19 years ago
Well, I believe the title would be a reference to the Tenessee Williams play 'The Glass Menagerie'.
This also makes sense of 'No, Mamma, let me go.'

Manic Street Preachers – Tsunami Lyrics 19 years ago
it's seem to me like someone telling the story of those twins to make a point about themselves. The second verse is their confusion and they want nature to 'wash over them;' to cleanse?

Pulp – Mis-Shapes Lyrics 19 years ago
The Intellectual Revolution. My dream.
Though, if it came, I'd be so disappointed. Ever seen that episode of the Simpsons with Stephen Hawkins?

Pulp – Live Bed Show Lyrics 19 years ago
I agree.
But the thing is "something beautiful left town": I've always assumed this meant her beauty/attractiveness/sexual allure. But today it struck me this could be a lover, the cause of her 'headboard banging'. So perhaps its a deceitfully romantic love song... Or it's just Pulp being Pulp.

Radiohead – No Surprises Lyrics 19 years ago
It's just struck me how claustrophobic this song is.
I've started interpreting music with a mixture of emotional and visual imagery... That's why I joined here.
He really sounds trapped, in this life, this world...That's why suicide doesn't make sense to me... Although, at the end, everythnig sort of falls away...
Like the water in the video...It's so aptly claustrophobic, also reminds me of the first panoramic shots of the Nostromo in Alien, with the 'talking helmets'. Which is always good.

And, you know, the video nearly killed Thom*, who couldn't hold his breath under pressure from cameras etc.
