David Crowder Band – O God Where Are You Now? (In Pickerel Lake? Pigeon? Marquette? Mackinaw?) Lyrics 18 years ago
This band gets MAJOR props for covering a Sufjan Stevens song, AND for actually doing it pretty well.

Headphones – Hello Operator Lyrics 18 years ago
my brother made an interesting comment after listening to this song that I rather like.

"Dave Bazan remembers one thing that a lot of christians forget- that God can be jealous."

The Billy Nayer Show – Apartment #5 Lyrics 18 years ago
the version of this song on Return to Brigadoon is fabulous. ol' McAbee has a way of painting pictures of such child-like dreamery that I find so... nostalgic, almost. great song.

Sufjan Stevens – John Wayne Gacy, Jr. Lyrics 19 years ago
I think that's what makes Sufjan a cut above the rest, drowningnoah.

I think this is one of the most simplictically powerful songs about falling short of God's glory and a reminder that, without the grace of God, like beulahrawk said, our souls are no better off than Gacy's.

and that falsetto gives me chills every time.

Foo Fighters – Aurora Lyrics 19 years ago
In my opinion, this is the best song that the Foo Fighters have ever written.

It's in my top-three "most beautiful songs" ever list, as well.

This is one of those songs that I will know for the rest of my life, and I'll never get sick of it.

Foo Fighters – What If I Do? Lyrics 19 years ago
this song is really growing on me.

the melody during the "Carolina" bit is so classically infectious in a way the only the foo can do to me. I love it.

I heard "What if I do, Lord?" from the start. I'm not gonna' go right out and say "Hey, look, it's a WORSHIP song!", 'cause that's not really what I think. I think it's just more of a prayer or hope for some kind of guidance or answer. The biblical reference is pretty obvious though.

kinda' reminds me of this little number:

Luke 9:24 - For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it.

Dave the preacher. okay, I doubt that's what he was going for, but it's interesting to contemplate.

I love this song.

Foo Fighters – Another Round Lyrics 19 years ago
This is one of those songs that was just meant to be played on the acoustic. I love singing along to this song. The verses just flow like some amazing song-writing awesomeness warm butter!

...or something.

Foo Fighters – Virginia Moon Lyrics 19 years ago
This is one of the most amazing Foo songs I have ever heard. I think this song proved once and for all that there is no boundary on what the Foos can do.

believe me, it's a song both you AND your parents will love. oddly enough, that's not a bad thing.

Amazing amazing song. I love it. favorite on the acoustic disc.

rock on dave n' norah duet action!

Foo Fighters – The Deepest Blues Are Black Lyrics 19 years ago
In this song you can REALLY see the classic rock influence that kinda' echoes throughout the electric disc. It's so rockin'... a classic kinda' rock song.

you can almost sing "We are the Champions" over the chorus.

Foo Fighters – Still Lyrics 19 years ago
If I remember right, this song was inspired by something from Dave's childhood. I think it was something like, him and his friends were riding their bikes down to the park to play soccer and mess around, when they found a ton of ambulances and firetrucks up around the train-tracks by the park. I guess some guy had killed himself on the tracks, letting himself get hit by a train. In their childhood innocence, Dave and his friends went to check it out and started playing around the scene of the tragedy, supposedly coming across pieces of the deceased.

bummer.

great song to start the acoustic disc with.

Foo Fighters – Resolve Lyrics 19 years ago
I think this is my favorite song on the electric disc. I think it has the best dynamic, and it reminds a lot of the kind of sound they were making during "There is Nothing Left to Lose."

although I suppose I could be a little biased, that being not only my favorite Foo album, but also my favorite album of all time.

Foo Fighters – Razor Lyrics 19 years ago
I suppose this song could just as easily be about contemplating suicide, but I'm not entirely sure. I suppose the obvious picture on top suggests that, and it being about a razor blade. I think it's about a person, though... that's the impression I get. This person is sharp and beautiful. He feels this person is his (Razor of mine), and beautiful (razorblade shine), but is also damaging and slowly hurtful (day after day, cutting away)

That's the thing about razor blade cuts, too. You hardly ever feel them cut you, you just get stuck with the effects.

either way, a great song. It's a good way to end the album, but I kept feeling like, when it builds at the end, that it was going to just explode into some dark, orchestrated bit, which would've been rad, but then it didn't...

I still love it anyway.

Foo Fighters – Over And Out Lyrics 19 years ago
All of the songs on the acoustic disc are pretty incredible, but this was the first one that got a big reaction out of me.

The chorus is so simple and heartbreaking. You get that picture of a radio with nothing but static.

Amazing song, possibly my favorite on the new album. But that's like picking your favorite child for me.

Foo Fighters – On The Mend Lyrics 19 years ago
it's kinda' funny, I think it feels like this song is a response to the song right before it, "Over and Out". I'm sure it's not even supposed to be that way, but to me, it seems like the chorus is what the person wanted to hear on the radio on the song before it.

This is one of my favorites on the acoustic CD. So mellow, and the chorus is haunting and calming.

Amazing song to listen to at night.

Foo Fighters – No Way Back Lyrics 19 years ago
I think that putting this song right after the first track on the CD was a great choice. this song does a good job of setting the mood for the rest of the album.

that riff is pretty sweet. I fell in love with the melody in the verses the first time I heard this song. For some reason it just gives me a feeling of nostalgia.

awesome tune.

Foo Fighters – Hell Lyrics 19 years ago
This songs pretty cool in that it's just a straight-up, under 2 minute rock out in typical foo fashion. reminds me a little of the sounds from Colour and the Shape.

That chorus is so typical hard rock.

"SEE YOU IN HELLLLLLLL!
SEE YOU IN HELLLLLLLL!"

you get the idea. cool song.

Foo Fighters – Friend Of A Friend Lyrics 19 years ago
I had a feeling when I first heard this song a few years ago that it was about himself, Kurt and Krist. I suppose that makes sense.

According to an interview for IYH, I guess this was the first song that he wrote on the acoustic with lyrics. I'm really happy that it made it onto an album finally after 15 or so years.

great song, I love it.

Foo Fighters – Cold Day In The Sun Lyrics 19 years ago
y'know, Taylor's got a pretty good "classic rock"-ish type voice.

this sounds a lot like an Eagles song from back in the day. I'm glad they brought Taylor to the front for a song, that's pretty cool. a whole new element brought to the front that makes for a sweet little song.

Foo Fighters – Best Of You Lyrics 19 years ago
Thank God, it's about time something new came out! I've only listened to this a few times on the ol' crappy internet stream, but I'm already freakin' addicted to it. I can't wait for June 14th.

I really needed to hear a song like this right about now. Pretty recently someone's been getting "the best" of me, and it's like Dave was reading out of my mind's journal.

I'm stoked. awesome song.

Dredg – Bug Eyes Lyrics 19 years ago
oh man, what a good song. I've been waiting forever for Dredg to put out something new. I love the piano that kinda' lingers just behind everything in the song... so amazing, everything you'd expect from Dredg. The lyrics are pretty straightforward; the person speaking feels lost and alone (kinda almost feels like "The Canyon Behind Her: WHAT HAPPENED NEXT!!"), and is haunted by thoughts of a wasted life and wanting to begin again.

Man I love Dredg. One of the best bands ever, in my opinion.

The Chariot – Good Night My Lady, and a Forever Farewell Lyrics 19 years ago
The picture I get from this is a of a man, much like myself not too long ago, driving home after having his heart broken. He may have thought she loved him too, only to find out that she didn't feel the same. And when that knowledge came out, she didn't want to remain in contact.

Wow. sounds familiar to my life. whatever, won't go into it. But man, those last lines stick with me:

"If we dont' meet (again) this side of heaven, make sure you're right. Stutter."

are you happy with your choice, Green Eyes?

The Chariot – And Then, Came Then Lyrics 19 years ago
it kinda' sounds like the lyrics on the album aren't so exact with what's in the booklet. after the first "The Devil is in Atlanta, Army: Surrounded", it almost sounds like he says "Our hearts are in Atlanta..."

'course i could be way wrong. It also sounds like he left out "City: Surrounded" and "Fort: Surrounded" altogether, unless they're being screamed by the backing voals.

When the strings come back in, it also sounds like he says "So RUN" or "so COME" again.

I think this is my favorite song on the album. I like it the more I listen to it. Amazing song.

Starflyer 59 – We're The Ordinary Lyrics 19 years ago
I think that this is one of the most beautiful songs ever crafted. It's kind of a shame that Starflyer is relatively unknown outside of some christian music circles.

When I listen to this song, I'm reminded of those I've lost. Lost friends from long ago, those you loved, and those you haven't seen in far too long. We realize that we are only human, and sometimes those you love most can drift away... and you realize, you miss them... and that this is not a new thing.

We're ordinary people, close but not the worst, but I think you know. We're all the lonely people, alone but not the first, but I think you know.

People come and go, and life will change, sometimes whether you like it or not, and somtimes, it will suck, and you will feel like the life is being sucked out of you.

Man I love this song... kinda' sad and depressing, but man... so beautiful.
