Jean Leloup – Le Dome Lyrics 19 years ago
Is this about using medicine/drugs to control mental disorders, and as a result taking away the real personality of the person?

Zwan – God's Gonna Set This World Lyrics 19 years ago
This is a song about the rapture. Not sure if he's making fun of it, or preaching about it, or just singing about it.

The "loud guitars" and "spiders from Mars" is Billy placing his own personality on god (making God in his own image).

btw, the lyrics are a little incorrect, I think it is "his Spiders from Mars", not "he is Spiders from Mars".

"Are you one of us flying blind?" "you're so far from home" could be a reference to Jesus, or whomever might be a manifestation of God down on earth

"Because I'm down here throwing stones
While you're so far from home " - I'm just a sinner, but you came all this way to save us.

I don't get the paricular references in the 3rd verse though ("I know they're on TV", etc...)

Not sure if that's really relevant though because I don't think this song is really about anything in particular, just ponderings on what god is.

Dar Williams – Iowa (Traveling III) Lyrics 19 years ago
The first two verses seem to be all ponderings about her bisexuality, and maybe regrets for never having fully explored it?
I don't really understand the 3rd verse though... is she talking about how she has put it all in the past, and now she is in a committed relationship with a man? (but still dreaming about the past regrets?)

I like the POW interpretations. There seem to be a few references to the holocaust:
"secret destroyers, hold you up to the flames"
"now i'm naked, nothing but an animal "

With all the atrocities imposed on the Jews, they had to try hard to remain faithful in God. Just like Job remained faithful to God despite the murder of his brother (son?). And this is similar to how Billy (though he is Christian not Jewish) is struggling.

Leonard Cohen – Closing Time Lyrics 19 years ago
I think this song is about the ills of sexual and drug-induced debauchery, and how true love is not akin to lust.

Basically he meets a woman at an orgy, they fall in love (or perhaps lust?). "And I loved you for your body. There's a voice that sounds like God to me
declaring that your body's really you." *sounds* like God, but perhaps it isn't. They get married "I loved you when our love was blessed".

Eventually the relationship ends, because it was based on lust, not love. Broken by the "weeds of sex".

Then another scene, he is with a different companion, they are old and happy. The "awful truth" would be that lust doesn't necessarily equal tru love, but the youth will not listen.
And now, he/they are going "crazy" the 2nd time around, but this time because they found god.

Anyway, that's how I interpret it (not that I necessarily agree with it).
