of Montreal – Black Lion Massacre Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Trippy Of Montreal lyrics were so long overdue. What a trip. It's been like.. albums since they did a song like this. |
Sia – Natale's Song Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Sia is a recovering drug addict, so I'm pretty sure this is about her relationship with her sponsor. |
Sia – Healing Is Difficult Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I am a recovering drug addict (weed and booze) and this is... eerily accurate. I feel any recovering drug addict (alcoholics included) will relate strongly to this song |
Nizlopi – Start Beginning Lyrics | 13 years ago |
There's a man in me Won't let me go free He smiles the more I procrastinate But it's strange how he goes The moment my heart knows That I'm here and I am doing this right now :] |
of Montreal – Sex Karma Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Very good song. all I have to say is "you like like a playground to me" |
of Montreal – Our Riotous Defects Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I know kevin barnes like to make songs ambiguous enough for multiple interpretations. I get the impression he may be referring to Georgie Fruit (husky singing voice) Also: I have long suspected Kevin Barnes has a history with drug addiction, and Al-Anon suggests this, too. I'd love to know about that definitively. |
of Montreal – Godly Intersex Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Is it REO wax or Aureal wax? Otherwise, epically good song. |
of Montreal – Godly Intersex Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I agree. I think he says dosed. |
Yeasayer – O.N.E. Lyrics | 13 years ago |
addiction is addiction is addiction, regardless of drug. but i agree completely. |
Yeasayer – O.N.E. Lyrics | 13 years ago |
addiction is addiction is addiction, regardless of drug. but i agree completely. |
MGMT – Song for Dan Treacy Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Well, first, he's obviously deep in thought. Possibly depressive thought, from drawing frowns. Then, it mentions his smile makes you wonder "who's the victim, what's the crime" This implies his smile has a faked, or evil quality to it, like he is ashamed or obtaining guilty pleasure, either one. Then later, it implies that he is making a major change in his life. Perhaps giving up a life of crime. Perhaps seeking drug addiction recovery. Perhaps forgetting/emotionally detaching from a dark, unwanted memory. Perhaps moving on from a past way of life, in general? Simply speculations. This may be a literal or figurative reference to Dan Treacy himself. It could be in tribute to him, but based on the introspective nature of the song, that seems unlikely. Perhaps it is recounting treacy's struggles, or simply using him as a mysterious figurehead. If anyone had a definitive life history of treacy, that may be very helpful. |
Animal Collective – Banshee Beat Lyrics | 14 years ago |
.... As an atheist, and one who used to wallow in pessimism, i dont see how this is atheistic pessimism. Pessimism, perhaps, but more like depressive realism. |
Animal Collective – On a Highway Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I agree, regarding the self-awareness. This whole album seems to be a passage of maturity, a development of self, mind, and spirit. Also, to the other repliers, there are many drug references in their songs, but this one really is one of the most obvious. It is well spoken, bluntly written, and enunciated. The other lines mentioned are more cryptic or kind of muttered. They certainly don't reference the actual motivations for taking the drugs (except that posted by holycrapoctopus). Even then, its not just a reflection on the effects of drugs, or wanting to do them, but actually saying he just did them, and it's relaxing. |
Animal Collective – What Would I Want? Sky Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I agree. I was going to post my thoughts on this, but you beat me to the punch. To me: Change, reflection, and redirecting one's intentions. |
Animal Collective – What Would I Want? Sky Lyrics | 14 years ago |
It also has some polyrhythmic elements at times, as well. You can easily pick out the 7/4, a 4/4, and 3/4 signature at the same time, listening to different elements of the composition. Animal Collective does this a lot, and i love them for that. |
Animal Collective – Graze Lyrics | 14 years ago |
This whole song is fantastic. Instead of 0-3min being going to sleep, and the rest waking up, i think the whole thing is like waking up. Even the lyrics give this impression "feels good cuz it's early". It's just like the first half is the semi-hypnotic state when you just wake up, gently rousing you, catching your attention in small, subtle tones. This is all in preparation for the last half, when you can finally allow your blood to flow, your heart to race, and your mind to think. The lyrics are just wonderful, too "Comfort, comfort Why do you run for it? Why can't you keep doing What you're supposed to do?" That being said, a great start to an awesome EP. |
The Flaming Lips – Sagittarius Silver Announcement Lyrics | 14 years ago |
i think the album shows a portrayal of metanoia, a very low low leading to reevaluations of our lives. This song is certainly a continuation on the previous "I can be a frog," but then again, i can hardly tell when one song fades to another in this album. very cryptic, wonderful. |
The Flaming Lips – I Can Be a Frog Lyrics | 14 years ago |
when the line "i can be a tornado, knocking down your wires," i think girl making noises in the background says "no! fuck no! fuck nooo!" agree with both rachel_____face and monkeyninja, as far as the general song goes, but Elegnaim has opinions very similar to my own, especially in that the stories and messages run together through these albums. |
The Flaming Lips – The Ego's Last Stand Lyrics | 14 years ago |
This song is amazing. In conjunction with the song preceding this on the album (powerless), I suspect the band may be going through addiction recovery. They still can, however, write in such a cryptic way that many listeners will have entirely different interpretations of these lyrics. The engineering of this album, the strange sounds weaving from right headphone to left, ebbing in, out, in out, are magical and wonderful, and this song exemplifies this effect. |
LCD Soundsystem – Home Lyrics | 14 years ago |
"You're afraid of what you need" sounds like addiction. which fits with "a few make sure you get home" but there are enough lines that don't quite fit with the idea, so it likely has multiple implications |
LCD Soundsystem – Pow Pow Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Idk about political stuff, but i believe you are confusing self-righteousness with the perspective that you cannot know anyone's opinion as well as your own. also, the implications are major, as you imply, but seem to preclude politics. More like general mindsets and mentalities, which obviously are greatly impacting of politics. |
LCD Soundsystem – Pow Pow Lyrics | 14 years ago |
My personal impression, before reading any of those above, is quite similar to LizardKing's: "He has gotten to a point where he is able to be less temperamental, calmer, and accepting. I love his little off-handed comments at the end of some of the verses, like when he says "you know, there are a lot of good places to eat." He has a new perspective on the things going on around him, and that allows him to slow down and enjoy what he has." I agree completely, how this song is about greater maturity, serenity, peace, and acceptance, how any single issue can be addressed from various "positions" (from this position i can see how the decision was reached, etc) and different conclusions can be drawn from those different perspectives. In a few words: Understanding Peace Acceptance Calm Maturity Self-Acceptance Identity also, many of these seem to be common themes throughout the album. |
LCD Soundsystem – Dance Yrself Clean Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Sounds a lot like recovery, to me. |
Dear and the Headlights – Hallelujah Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I agree that the song now seems much more emotional knowing about Ian's grandfather. Knowing this, I reconsidered the meanings of the lines. Specifically, i wonder if the last lines: "remember how her eyes would shine, they made you come home on time" could be talking about the actual suicide, as he is "coming home" (i assume this song is talking about a dead lover, as it seems to fit better) to his loved one. her eyes. |
City and Colour – The Girl Lyrics | 16 years ago |
i always forget that the piano part is still this song. It jsut doesnt really fit, but it is pretty. Also, does anyone have the definate lyrics for the piano part? the parts he kinda whispers? k. meaning is basically exactly as Sakari stated: "He's in love with a girl who does everything for him to keep the relationship working. Even though he's off doing his own thing and what he wants, he promises to be faithful to her and he hates to see her sad because he think it's his fault." he just wants it to work. the part about seeing her cry is really powerful, and the entire verse with "i'm yours to keep" is amazing. i love how the song transitions from sortof slow/normal pace, then transitions to louder and mroe energetic to practically doleful. it's interesting |
City and Colour – Against the Grain Lyrics | 16 years ago |
great song. one of those songs i could see myself sending to someone in a funk. I don't want to call it a self-help song, but that's kinda what it is. the good friend talking to another from the bottom of his/her heart trying to sincerely help the other person. meaning is pretty straight forward, too. some don't like the new harmonica songs, but i think it fits well in most of the songs. |
City and Colour – Constant Knot Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I agree with sakari. like some other of dallas green's songs from this album, you can see regret peeking it's ugly head, and this song is key. and yes, very sadly heartfelt. |
City and Colour – Waiting... Lyrics | 16 years ago |
i heard this song first with the rest of the album, and this is the first one that really jumped at me. I just loved the sound of it, and then i bothered to look into the lyrics (here at songmeanings.net, of course). k, just a stab at the possible meaning(s): this is almost about depression. like, from a third person point of view, or sortof examining what happens. the last verse kinda makes me think that, as well as the chorus' "waiting to die" bit. as for the possible reason/meaning, i agree with the above comment (kudos to honalulu), but just about how people can miss the key beauties of life and just get themselves into a rut, almost like a self fulfilling prophecy. If you say "the world is a depressing place" enough times, you will start to believe that and wind up all "broken down and empty" |
City and Colour – What Makes a Man? Lyrics | 16 years ago |
a: chain stuff is dumb b: this song (and the whole album) is amazing while it isnt the most powerful lyrics wise (in my opinion), it is one of the most powerful musically. I mean, yes, the lyrics are still super powerful, but i think "waiting..." or "the girl" still take the cake. but omg. beautiful. the part near the end distinguishable by a staccato violin in the background (2:23 on my version) is soo beautifully powerful. this is just my spin on it, but i think each of the four stanzas/verses are each describing a differnt hardship so to speak. i think that the reason he "might know" in 1 could be love or a girl, 2 could be the difficulty of being an individual, 3 could be the natural cruelty humans have (unsure about this one), and 4 could be plain old fear and regret. as for the meaning of the whole song; i think the above summaries are pretty good. |
Damien Rice – Accidental Babies Lyrics | 17 years ago |
yes, i do realize that the whole "1 thinks that the babies fathered by 2 are accidental" thing is very obscure and one could easily argue against it, but it fits with my theory. i just dont want ya'll to think im loco. |
Damien Rice – Accidental Babies Lyrics | 17 years ago |
well. it definitely has sex. that imagery is obvious. i dont see it as an affair for one main reason: the chorus. he is asking her all the rhetorical questions in order to try to show here what she was missing by leaving him. I'm going to refer to the singer as 1 and the new gy as 2. It is a representation of a relationship 1 and the girl once had, and 1 is dwelling upon it, brooding almost. I dont think that "accidental babies" are a result of an affair, but i think 1 would consider a child fathered by 2 an accidental baby. In short, it is a guy remembering the relationship he and his significant other once had (and the sex), and so he is trying to convince the girl to go with him, or at least realize that she still loves him. >>[[[NOT AN AFFAIR]]] |
Thom Yorke – And It Rained All Night Lyrics | 17 years ago |
if anyone has seen the thriller called Taxi Driver with robert de niro, one would notice that in this movie, it actually begins with a monologue about how the main character played by DeNiro likes the rain because it cleans up the filth. it takes place in new york city, and he and various characters mention rain and the filth of new your (an society) NUMEROUS times in the movie. i think that the connection is so pertinent that it may be more than coincidence. true, it could be completely unrelated, especially since it is an american movie, but its possible. any of the other possibilities are also possible. |
Hot Chip – (Just Like We) Breakdown Lyrics | 17 years ago |
catchy tune. great beat, not to mention a great band. so clever, eh? this CD is A++. not a song on it that i don't love. |
Elani – Listen Lyrics | 17 years ago |
so apparently, chris and wookie uploaded this onto their myspace under the wrong title. its correct title is "i just need to know" |
Hot Hot Heat – In Cairo Lyrics | 17 years ago |
great sound. another gem from hot hot heat. to be a hundred percent honest, they could be talkin about things like kittens and caramels and i wouldnt care, the sound of the piano and the bass are just perfect |
Menomena – Water Lyrics | 17 years ago |
under an hour is a great instrumental cd, and this is by far my favorite track on it. especially about 5 minutes into it. i really like the sound of this one. |

Nizlopi – Wash Away Lyrics | 17 years ago |
this song is so incredible. i dont think JCB is overrated, becuase its great too, but i think that people need to discover other nizlopi songs. this is one of the great ones. basically, this song is about trying to get away from the bad things |
Tori Amos – Happiness Is a Warm Gun (The Beatles cover) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i think it odd that they included the quote that is, if i am correct, from her father regarding the 2nd ammendment. I also think it odd that Tori Amos, who is a strong advocate for gun control, has a father that believes in the 2nd ammendment. although i value youre opinion, l!nzy, i do not think that your assertion is correct. being a re-make of a former song, this song is not neccesarily meant to convey a certain message. i believe that tori amos sang this to simply voice her gun control advocation, not to actually suggest the need for more gun control. essentially, this song is simply her opinion, not a suggestion. then again, i may just be a gun totin' hick that don' think them there gov'ment folk can be takin our boom boom sticks. so have a g'day y'all. |
Sleeping At Last – Quicksand Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Well, now that we have the correct lyrics, posted by SaL themselves on their Myspace, we can start the commenting. I thought we should also post this, because much like the songs by imogen heap and snow patrol, this song is going to be featured on the season premiere of Grey's Anatomy. Great song though. by a great band. on a great CD. i think most people can identify with the message of this song, that it is just so hard to escape. |
The Early November – 1000 Times A Day Lyrics | 18 years ago |
amazing. truly. such a good song, and daystoforget is a dumbass. these songs are the best, the ones that tell a story. great story, too. |
Damien Rice – The Professor & La Fille Danse Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Sorry guys, specifically xylophonesusan. a gamete disease is not an STD, but rather a disease that causes inability to perform sexual acts (through either the inability to create reproductive cells or erictile dificulty, or a rare (excellent breed?) type of infection that causes great pain to the inflicted at the time of erection and orgasm). he also makes references mocking himself talking about dicks of wood, saying that its good if you do infact have a dick of wood. this implys that since she has "just gone", he was forced to break up with someone because the relationship used to be sex-oriented, focused on the act of sex, but when he gets this "gamete disease" (that he doesnt understand, implying its recently diagnosed), she leaves him due to his inability. this explanation also works with xylophonesusan's std idea. but i think its inability, not std's |
Rascal Flatts – He Ain't the Leavin' Kind Lyrics | 18 years ago |
mnsdq. the "words" are the words on the dollar bills and the stones of the ten commandments sculpture. To take those words off paper and stone would be to take him off the dollar and the sculpture but yeah good song |
The Fray – All At Once Lyrics | 18 years ago |
im sorry, but i cant agree with callire, kanzen, or gilmoreloveee (but this is just an opinion) to me, i think that this is a song about when you have already dumped/been dumped by a girl (from a guy's point of view) but you realize you were a fool You begin to wonder Could you find a better one Compared to her now it says compared to her "now." This now shows that you more than likely already dated her, and after you had already dated her and broken up in one of those lulls in the relationship in which the relationship is not as strong as it could be. Maybe you want her Maybe you need her Maybe you had her Maybe you lost her to another so now, after realizing you were a fool for dumping her, you also see that someone else is already dating her, and that you cant have her back because you "lost her to another." Th key here is the phrase "maybe you had her," showing that this girl was one you dated previously (the only reason this is my opinion is because it has proven eerily similar to my life, where i broke up with my gf of 1 yr 3 mo because i wanted more, but then after i had my little 1 month flings, i realized that i was a moron for leaving her. oh wait. whats that? she found a boyfriend and theyve been dating for 2 months with no signs of stopping? well... shit.) |
Margot & the Nuclear So and So's – Jen Is Bringin' the Drugs Lyrics | 18 years ago |
wow. sad no comments on this song yet. truly a great song. i love the "She had an airbrushed face, But the lines of distaste were crossed without crossing of legs." and the very last stanza. great song. great band. |
Margot & the Nuclear So and So's – Skeleton Key Lyrics | 18 years ago |
well, combining both of your ideas on the skeleton key aspect, a skeleton key is either: a) a key to all the doors b) a plain boring key in the beginning talking about free to turn like a skeleton key may mean free to be single and do as she pleases no idea |
Copeland – You Have My Attention Lyrics | 18 years ago |

Cowboy Bebop – Rain Lyrics | 18 years ago |
whoops. that was just my opinion of the song. as for analyzation. one of the general misconceptions on this song is the interpreted meaning of "but mother never danced through fire shower" (and btw, it says bet above). most people think this is just spitefulness towards a mother who does not know what she is talking about. It is actually referring to a gunfight, where fire shower is the rain of bullets that one is dancing in. This whole song can easily be interpreted as a gunfight. "if there is a hell, im sure this is how it smells." This can be veiwed as the smell of gunpowder and the smoke from "smokeless" gunpowder, which has a sulfurous scent. Hell is also said to have burning pits of sulfur (eh, eh, see the connection?). The rest of the lyrics can be applied to the hysteria one feels once they have been shot or are soon to be shot and are fearing death thats just one interpretation tho. |
