This to me means alot about Anti- War, and an element that I dont think anyone else has mentioned. This song seems to be against Nuclear weapons and nuclear power as a whole. I know this cuz my science class has been going over nuclear physics in class and the line : "if it can be fused then it can be split" fits perfectly with this idea. Also "It's all under control" is they ironic view on Nuclear Power/weapons. We say that we have it under control and it goes fine, but it really isnt, we let loose on other countries and use them for "self-defense". i feel like obtaining nuclear weapons is like having a gun to defend yourself, you think itll help the situation but it makes matters worse. Alot of the song also seems to talk alot about technology and how its shaping the world: "So here we are reinventing the wheel I'm shaking hands with a hurricane" |

To me, the "lesson" and "sermon" isnt litteral, its Tommy teaching through music. If you remember a quote from Amazing Journy it was "strange as it seems, his musical dreams aint quite so bad" At this point tommy is symbolic of how Townshed and The Who feel when their on the big stage. Tommy is the image of superstardom. How tommy didnt tell the Security to throw Sally off the stage shows how maybe bands dont want to push their crazy fans away, theres just an overwhelming amount of them. It could be either drugs or sex (or both) As far as proving its drugs, you can look at the movie or at the title and chrous. But usually u need to look into verses. Ummm maybe this is about his mother. His false hope that she was a good mother showed what he thinks might have happened. She had to go away for a reason he didnt know, and when she returned he didnt live there(he lived with his father then after he came back from WWII and after she "left" him with his relitives) And she figures he doesnt love her, so he went and looked for his sister.
