Morrissey – Yes, I Am Blind Lyrics 19 years ago
It's basically about somebody how is told to 'look on the bright side of life' and can't. He sarcastically puts down the person who told him to do so, then in his mind asks God how CAN he look on the bright side when so many bad things happen in life?

Morrissey – We'll Let You Know Lyrics 19 years ago
I don't think it's so much a critque, as it is sypathetic. As can be seen here:

http://www.compsoc.man.ac.uk/~moz/lyrics/yourarse/welllety.htm

Moz sympathises with the rabid patriotic attitude of the hooligans, and sees a something reminisant of his 'lost England' in them.

Nice piece of guest singing (or rather speaking) for Suggs on this too :)

Morrissey – November Spawned A Monster Lyrics 19 years ago
There's an interesting irony where the narrator asks the girl to please hug him, and yet later muses over the horrors of physical contact with her...

Morrissey – I Have Forgiven Jesus Lyrics 19 years ago
For God's sake people! NOT ALL MORRISSEY SONGS ARE ABOUT HOMOSEXUALITY!

I think this song is just about the unfairness of life, and lonliness in general. Everybody gets horribly depressed when they're lonely, and I think the character in this song is just crying out in frustrastion, blaming all his problems on Jesus and asking why it had to be this way.

Despite the fact he was a 'good kid' and he'd never do anybody harm, he feels like Jesus is punishing him by filling him with desire and love, yet there is nobody for him to love.

And yet, there's also an irony to this... The character has 'forgiven' Jesus, yet still blames him for all his romantic ills.

Morrissey – Hairdresser On Fire Lyrics 19 years ago
This song is nothing as complex as that. It's just a song based on an experiance Moz had where he couldn't make an appointment with a hairdresser.

Morrissey – Come Back To Camden Lyrics 19 years ago
America does that to you. I spent two weeks there... And I was already missing our weather.

Still, this has a very vendy, romantic feel to it. I just love the way this song unfolds, it's so tragic.

Morrissey – America Is Not The World Lyrics 19 years ago
I think Morrissey is doing here to America what he's been doing to Britain for years.

Morrissey seems to have a very romantic mindset when it comes to countires, for years he's pined for a lost Britain. One that harkens back to the Victorian tradtion of kindness, politeness, being proud of your country.

See 'We'll let you know' as an example. Here I think, rather than an all out attack on America, we're seeing him wishing that America, like Britain, would follow up on the principles of which it was founded. The land of the free... And yet, the President is never black, female or gay? He's asking the questions no doubt all of us have thought in accordance to America and at the end, pleading for it to unhold it's own values and return to them.

Siouxsie and the Banshees – Interlude Lyrics 19 years ago
A cover of a song written by George De La Rue & Hal Shaper, this is quite a beautiful song.

I disagree that Morrissey's vocal was weaker than Siouxsie's, they both did an excellent job and make this possibly the most chilling duets I've ever heard.

Siouxsie and the Banshees – Spellbound Lyrics 19 years ago
I think this one has a pretty obvious meaning. It's either about irrational childhood fears or quite possibly, if you want to look at it on a deeper level, child abuse. But personally, I go with the former...

Curve – Chinese Burn Lyrics 19 years ago
It's something along the lines of battling with one's inner self. I think. The woman Toni is talking about in the song is meant to be inside her own mind, or something. I just remember reading something along those lines once upon a time.

Um, I meant "All kinds of social vices/drugs" are a colour there... sorry for any confusion.

Curve – Pink Girl with the Blues Lyrics 19 years ago
Heh, this song has an interesting story behind it. It's based on a book (If anybody knows the name/author, please speak up! As I have a terrible membory for these things), where all kinds of drugs/social vices are a drug.

Pink is a classification for porn, and blue is for depressants. So basically, we get "Pink Girl with the Blues", or "Depressed porn star/Porn star on depressants".

Yellow is also a classifcation for a type of drug, but I forget which. Still, it's an amazing song in my view! :)

Curve – Dirty High Lyrics 19 years ago
Halliday describes the meaning of this song pretty well:

"'Dirty High' is about delving into things," she explains, "either personality disorders or society or spirit or the soul, anything. Some people have explored their imaginations and when they get these pictures the subconscious comes to the fore. My advice would be to give everything a try that you need to try, but be aware."

The Smiths – Paint a Vulgar Picture Lyrics 19 years ago
When Morrissey cites "sycophantic slags", it's supposedly a direct attack on over zealous band groupies... or just groupies in general. Who really knows?

Curve – Forgotten Sanity Lyrics 19 years ago
Taken directly from an interview with Toni:

"And what about "Forgotten Sanity," in which she chants "Decay, decay, decay, decay"?

"That was completely off the head. It's really about Alzheimer's." Halliday quotes the lyrics: "'I've given up on speech, I can't remember how I look or the day of the week. Your love is a distant memory, along with most of my family.' Those degenerative diseases you get in old age strip you of everything. You're left in a dodgy old people's home."

The Smiths – A Rush and a Push and the Land Is Ours Lyrics 19 years ago
"And people who are uglier than you and I, they take what they need and just leave."

A direct referance to Thatchers Government. They are "uglier" then the common people, but they take what they need and give nothing back.
