| i think that the entire band was just amazing. syd was unbelievable, but dave was able to make up for it, and to prove a point that Pink floyd wasnt just syd and dave, Roger was the one who wrote most of the new stuff after syd left. almost all of the songs off of dark side, wish you were here, animals, and the wall were his. he was just as crazy as syd, just not in a ridiculous mental way. but long story short, they were an improv band. you CANT go wrong with an improv band. | |

the line 'my job is to kill if you forget to take your pill" does not refer to this song. the thing about birth control pills may be true, but its not what that metaphor means. the metaphor is also seen in Sleep Now In The Fire. the line is 'for its the end of history its caged and frozen still there is no other pill to take so swallow the one that makes you ill' the pill refers to your life, the way of life. so swallow the pill means accept the life that your corporate masters have made for you. thats what the guy is shouting in the song, he wants Maria to conform to her slavery. most of the lines in the song are representative of something. |

i like all the interpretations about an overprotective mother and how he is all snug inside his wall and when his mother was done the wall was too high for him to get out, but the way i see it he was not a scared boy that his mother trapped in a wall of beliefs. he built the wall with his emotions that he felt towards everything, like his dad being killed in WWII and his wife leaving him and his boyhood memories of loneliness (in the movie) and his teachers and everyone else in his life. I think that the idea that his mom was the main influence on the wall is oversimplifying the whole story of the wall. to put on top of that in the 2nd to last song on disc 2, the trial, he was not upset because he couldnt get out, but because he built the wall and the bad memories still got in. and the bad memories tore his wall down. and if you think about it, that would explain the nazi-esque figure he portrays in waiting for worms, in the flesh and run like hell. he tried to weed out the bad memories before they destroyed him. but he failed. no, other than that i love the song and i love the way they describe an overprotective mother. beautiful |

its about drugs. more specifically, about addiction. in the beginning he is riding cool, and then he starts coming down off his high. he finds a 'hotel' and he stays there. the hotel is symbolic of addiction. he stops, meets a girl thats like him, with her tiffany twisted mind (her addiction to jewelry/high life), her pretty pretty boyfriends and all that stuff. the chorus about livin it up at the hotel california, drugs drugs drugs all day long. then the captain (dealer) tells him hes out of that 'spirit', then it goes to the mirrors on the ceiling part. mirrors on the ceiling is a sexual thing IE addicted to sex. we are all just prisoners here of our own device, prisoners of their addictions, and then the feast where they all shoot up or do whatever they do to feed their addictions. the beast metaphor shows that their addictions are deepseeded and impossible to kill. he runs for the door, tries to escape his addiction and is stopped by the nightman (his habit, or dealer, whichever). you can check out any time you like but you can never leave, hopeless addiction. and as for the title, hotels are often places for hardcore sex action, and drugs. plus california, kind of an obvious reference to a really drugged up addicted state. but hey, maybe its just an acid trip song |

| this is definitely one of their best songs. they had stairway, which in its entire glory was very VERY overplayed, they had moby dick, bring it on home, thats the way, immigrant song, in the light, rock n roll, the ocean and kashmir. all of their songs are kick-ass, really, and as they got older they developed those epics like achilles last stand and kashmir. but they sound so happy in fool in the rain. it sends a chill down my spine cuz this was the last song they made right before bonham died.
