Hüsker Dü – Celebrated Summer Lyrics

Mould is from Malone, NY not Minnesota. But from your descriptions of the weather, it sounds about the same. Lots of snow. Little sun. Gotta appreciate it while you can. |

Andrew Bird – Why? Lyrics

And not just physically, but trying to drag a response ANY response out of the object of your affections. This includes just getting them to get angry to prove that they have feelings.
"damn you for being so easygoing" indeed. |

Andrew Bird – Why? Lyrics

My favorite Andrew Bird song. The emotion and rawness of the way he sings/performs this are amazing.
I think it's about being with someone you're completely crazy for but they aren't really doing anything about it. Like, when you're sitting next to your love on the couch and you're completely ready to tear their clothes off but they're just watching the TV and laughing at you.
you know?
So. Wonderful. |

I agree with dragonflyeyes ^ this song is just about missing being comfortable with someone you were so content with. Very well done. |

The Decemberists – Everything I Try to Do, Nothing Seems to Turn Out Right Lyrics
| 18 years ago

This song, being so simply evocative, stays with you.
It's filled with contrasting images that show how conflicted the speaker is with the relationship, i.e. "Messed with your slacks, but ended up just holding your hand" (the idea of wanting someone [albeit physically] but simply resigning yourself to a less passionate gesture, but more meaningful). Yet painted consitently with images that speak of the sadness of the speaker (rain, watching the taxi drive away, staring at the ceiling).
Truly one of my favorite Decemberists songs. It captures the feeling of falling out of love - how all you can feel is the distance between you. |

The Dresden Dolls – Gravity Lyrics

My favorite Dolls song. It captures my current mood perfectly, and my life most of the time.
The deeper meaning to this song comes completely from me, so I'm not going to post it. As a tribute to Nameless's statement that "you can see it the way you want to see it, that's what makes them genius" |

Tyler Hilton – Meant Something To Me Lyrics
| 19 years ago
|
Tyler's singing about a girl he loves, and he's unsure of her feelings in return. He knows that it meant something to him, but feelings are relative, and he'd like to know.
He feels a little secure, because "you can remember" the 22nd of November.
It meant something to them. |

Matt Nathanson – Don't Worship Me Lyrics

This is such a beautiful song. So honest.
You know someone is a great man when offered an "above others" status he simply says "Look dude, I'm beautiful and weak.. just like you." |

The Dresden Dolls – Truce Lyrics

This is the perfect song for that state when you've finished a relationship and you can only feel the distance between you.
The way she sings it, softly - almost inaudible - makes me shiver. It highlights the timid state one finds themself in after a relationship..
then the gradual building until she's angry and saying "I'll hit back if hit... You can fake it for the papers but I'm onto you" shows how sometimes the other member of the recently ended relationship can twist things around and she's saying "don't mess with the truth, it's what happened between us - don't go shouting it out, don't say mean things unless you can take them back."
but that's just my interpretation.
Love <3 the dolls. |

I love how this song reflects Fiona's growth as an artist. Her use of 'classical' instruments in her contemporary music is refreshing.

Teitur – I Was Just Thinking Lyrics

Teitur constantly amazes me because of his ability to articulate exactly what situations are like.
This song is exactly what the ending of a long distance relationship feels like - it's sad, sweet, and it lingers. |
