I've read some interviews regarding this song, and this is summarizing what Pete says about the ending: In short, Tommy does this to his followers because he knows in they end, whatever faith they had is lost by their jealousy. I think he said something like "soon enough people will start getting jealous and wondering 'Why couldn't we have had this happen to us, so we could be reborn as the Messiah?'." I wish I could find where I read that. There was a lot more, and it made a lot more sense the way he said it obviously... but that's what I think it's about. |

When I said tactful, I meant in that post. Not in general. Also, note the keyword in that sentence: tried. Hypocrisy = saying something is bad, and then doing it. For example: You saying that I need to watch my temper when your previous posts have largely consisted of nothing but anger. You fascinate me as well, and I'm going to take your advice and try to calm down. I have a temper, if those reading haven't figured it out already. How could I not get angry at all the crap you've been saying? I said I don't care what people think of me. That's different from caring about what people say about other things, and what you've been saying makes me angry; how does that matter whether it's through the Internet or not? Or has it suddenly become not human nature to want to respond to things other people say? I'm not having a bad day. I enjoy arguments. They're like doing push-ups in your brain. You don't have to start hating the band. I agree with almost everybody who said they didn't like this song. This just ingrains in everybody's mind that all women are good for is sex, and that all women are gold diggers. That women are objects to be acquired, kept happy, and used. It makes the fake-baked, 100-pound bleach-blonde girl on campus feel like she's the shit and it breaks the confidence of the overweight shy girl into a million pieces. It used to be "We're all girls here." Now it's "We're all girls, but half of us are skinny and pretty. The other half aren't worth anything." The sad thing is, some of my best friends aren't really, really, really skinny. I love them all to death. They're the best people I've ever met. I've known people who were beautiful on the inside, and had strong opinions, and GOD BLESS, they could actually manage to think for themselves. And I've had to listen to these people cry because they got called fat. Shit like this makes everybody think that anybody who doesn't fit that stereotype isn't a person. Not to mention I've seen some of my guy friends fall for girls because they thought they were pretty, and get crushed when they found out the girl was an empty, wasted, superficial shell of a person. This song is reinforcing the mentality in girls my age that "Well, I just have to dress like this and do this and that and I'll get guys to like me and I'll be really happy." I agree completely with my_happy_thoughts, I will support MCR until I'm in a walker, but you can't go listening to that type of music all the time. MCR rocks, but you have your variations. Kudos to whoever said they liked The Who, they are my favorite band in existence. One type of music would make me want to hack off my ears with a screwdriver, no matter how good it was. |

I always thought this song was about somebody who had a dream, and they spent all their lives only half living, because they were waiting for their dream to come true. But then they suddenly realize it's never going to happen. "I'd make a wish and bleed" - they wished for their dream, but they were only hurting themselves by wasting all their time on something that they can't have. I can see how the religion aspect plays in, though, but that's just what I've always thought of this song. |

I understand that this isn't meant to be a deeply lyrical song . That point was made pretty obviously in the first two lines. But, come on. This song is complete trash, even by "party" song standards. I've heard other party songs, and I respect all the artists who can get off their lazy asses and write their own music, but at least they never stooped so low as to coin the phrase "lovely lady lumps"....eurgh. You want a fun song? Write a song about having fun, dancing, being with your friends, loving music, getting drunk, I don't fucking care, but don't spew out shit about a braindead spoiled-ass whore babbling about how fucking hot she is. I haven't listened to Jack Off Jill yet...I heard about Scarling over the Internet and City Noise completely blew me away, I ordered So Long Scarecrow off Amazon and it's supposed to come in sometime next week, I can't wait... Anyway, I think this song is kind of about how somebody can move to a different place or city and that new lifestyle can change their personality completely. As KillMeFaster said, they go out clubbing a lot, and they probably drink a lot too. Specifically in the lyric "purging your last meal" refers to bulimia, and how superficial the general public can be. And, I've always thought the "city noise" was a metaphor for people gossiping, maybe? Great song. I can't WAIT until So Long Scarecrow gets here. |
