I think in this song Julian feels alienated and is trying to convince himself he's different from everyone else and doesn't belong, and that he's completly alone and no one cares about him. He talks about how he hates everyone so he drinks excessively, and that they in turn hate him too ("Nobodys waiting for me, on the other side") He repeats that line the whole song. At the end he gives in and says "I know you're waiting for me, on the other side", which just shows he knew all along he is really like everyone else and there is someone waiting for him. |

I live in Ottawa about 3 blocks from a bridge called 'Pont Champlain', which goes over to the Quebec side. I'm guessing this is the same bridge they're talking about in the song, becuase they're from Montreal. Unless there's a Pont Champlain in Montreal? Anyway, kinda neat. |

Well it's obviosuly a pretty simple song, about him remembering an old girlfriend and the things he used to do. I get the feeling he's really depressed, probably not by her but he's just remembering a time when he was a lot happier. |

Great song.
I think it's about someone who likes this girl and although she's giving him crayz mixed signals he's still going to try and take a chance with her. He's confused and keeps changing his mind about her, and at the same time tries to convince that he's right for her. |

This is the song that got me into the Strokes, and it's definetly the best. I have a DVD of their MTV $2 Bill Concert that came with my copy of Is This It, and it's the most amazing performance of the song I've ever heard. |
