The Killers – When You Were Young Lyrics | 4 years ago |
It's about a girl who had her heart broken, but she's waiting on her "beautiful boy", as she sees him in her head, despite the way he's treated her, to save her from this heart break by coming back to her because she's forgiven him. He doesn't look a thing like Jesus- many see Jesus as a savior, and this he is certainly not, but she settles for the fact that he talks like a gentlemen. He's putting on a show of being kind, even though he isn't. She thinks they can climb this mountain, get over this huge obstacle that caused them to break up, if they take it slow. But right away, that plan goes out the window. They're "burning down the highway skyline", meaning moving really fast, "on the back of a hurricane", a fast moving disaster. They dive right back into the relationship with the same problems as always. She closes her eyes to see the place where they used to live - she's remembering the good times early in the relationship; clearly long gone. The last part talks of the devil's water, which is when you have a deep physical longing for someone to be in your life, even if you don't necessarily like them. So this refers to her constantly being tempted; she doesn't "have to drink right now" or she can dip her "feet every once in a while". Whether she puts him aside for now or not, she will always go back to him in some way, even though he is bad for her. Not a huge Killers fan, but this song is amazing. |
Jimmy Eat World – Get It Faster Lyrics | 4 years ago |
He wants to know where they stand - he's asking her, but not getting an answer. He wants to be with her and do right by her, but she won't commit. He's tired of waiting for her to decide, so cheating on her gets him the answer faster, presumably because she'll break up with him. Decision made. You snooze, you lose. |
Pearl Jam – Black Lyrics | 4 years ago |
I just couldn't stand to read one more comment about the guy being in love with an artist! Don't be so literal! Sheets of empty canvas Untouched sheets of clay Were laid spread out before me As her body once did The love of his life leaves him and now he's left to restart a new life. His life is a blank canvas, unmolded clay. He now has to create a new life without her... he's looking at this blank canvas that lays where she used to be. Amazingly beautiful song of love lost and longing. |
Rob Thomas – Lonely No More Lyrics | 19 years ago |
It's just SO techno sounding. I was also expecting something with a santana feel to it - Smooth was a great song... a HOT, SEXY song. This is a little juvenile for his audience I think (the "whoa's" remind me of new kids on the block!!!). I've alwasys been a big fan but I just can't get into this. :( |
Gin Blossoms – Allison Road Lyrics | 19 years ago |
come on, kids! Let's give this song some justice! It's about a guy who's not sure he's in love so he leaves his woman and now he's not sure he made the right choice. First of all, one of the best lines was omitted above. He says, "Eyes in the sun where the road wasn't wide. So I went looking for an exit sign. All I wanted to find tonight." So things got tough and he left. Another great line "I WANT to love her but I can't decide". He's not deciding b/w her and another girl. He knows she loves HIM and he desperately wants to love her back. She's giving him that "bedroom stare" of love and all he notices is the birds flying by; meaning that he's probably looking over her shoulder and not at her the way she's looking at him. After he leaves she gets angry "fire in the heaven of the eyes I knew" - the loving eyes are gone and now filled with anger and when he tries to come back she won't listen and decides it's over between them: "So she fills up her sails with my wasted breath". Just a totally awesome song. |

Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Maps Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This song is supposed to be about someone in a band who is always traveling. She's pleading with him not to leave again b/c "they" don't love him like she does. Maps - because of all the cities he has travel to to see these fans who don't love him (they are the "they") like she does. |

Wilco – I Am Trying to Break Your Heart Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I am a very new Wilco fan. This song is awesome - so complex but about such a common thing. First I thought the 'assassin' was clever because he's walking around drunk like an assassin would - zig zagging back and forth; probably leaning against a building for support every once in a while. But the band aid throws me off a little too. If the song is going backward and that's the verse where he's remembering their first hello, maybe it's him telling her to let down her guard (i.e. she's wearing a "band aid" from a being hurt before) because he's not just trying to score with her (i.e. touchdown)? |
