I have an obsessive fan relative who makes almost monthly pilgrimages to Liverpool. She says Day Tripper either was or still is an expression used for a prostitute in Blackpool (or something like that.)
I think if it IS about a prostitute, the speaker was obvlivious to it, hence the teaser lines. When he realized she wanted money and she realized she wasn't getting paid, she stopped what she was doing.
Though, because I've heard the drug theme more from band interviews, I think that's the most obvious meaning. |

I don't live in her head so I can't say for sure what she meant, and like many other people who've heard this song I had a friend like this..but anyway
From the lyrics it sounds like a girl who made a lot of bad choices and now has no one to turn to and nowhere to go. The video confirmed that for me, as well as mad me cry like a little girl.
I can't help but wonder if she wrote this about someone she actually knew. I guess I'll never know. Either way I know how she feels. |
