Ringo Deathstarr – Sweet Girl Lyrics 13 years ago
It is such...a...drag...to be cute...and...sad!

Also, I think it's "I love her tragically."

Gorillaz – To Binge Lyrics 14 years ago
I love this song. I think the meaning has been pretty much explained. On the "economy" line...I think some of you guys have forgotten that "economy" has multiple meanings!

â–¸ noun: an act of economizing; reduction in cost ("It was a small economy to walk to work every day")
â–¸ noun: frugality in the expenditure of money or resources ("The Scots are famous for their economy")
â–¸ noun: the efficient use of resources ("Economy of effort")
â–¸ noun: the system of production and distribution and consumption

So yeah, I see it as meaning that he's more emotionally guarded now that he's alone.

Sonic Youth – 100% Lyrics 15 years ago
Love this song, but according to SY's website, the lyrics here are a little off.

"he's off to check his mind"
is supposed to be
"the zoftig chick is mine"

and

"it gone to my head goodbye i am dead
wastewood rockers is time for crap"
is supposed to be
"Gun to my head, goodbye I am dead
Wastewood rockers, it's time for crime!"

Drop Nineteens – Winona Lyrics 15 years ago
Amazing song, thanks for trying at the lyrics! They look pretty accurate.

I think this song is about what effects they fear their possible future success in indie music might have on them. Some of the lyrics seem to be making fun of the process your average indie band goes through on their way to the "top": you fit a passing trend, hipster mags hype you up, and you're briefly cool until something new comes along and no one cares enough to remember the chorus to your big single anymore. It's making fun of the shallowness of the whole process.

"If you've got the looks, then the rest just works"
-90% of success in music is superficial. If you look cool enough and pose right, who cares if you kind of suck?
"Another record shop story that was born to die."
-Referring to the ephemeral nature of success?
"We're too young to understand.
All there is to know,
if you're gonna lose your soul."
-Obviously, this is about them being young, inexperienced, and worried about the future. I think the "lose your soul" part means that they're afraid of selling out, or of getting too caught up in the pursuit of being a "cool" band. Will success change them? They'd like to think not, but they have no way of knowing.

Who knows. A lot of the lyrics in here are just nonsense, but I think my interpretation kind of makes sense. If I'm right, it's kind of interesting that they were pretty accurate in their prediction of what would happen to them.

Lush – Ladykillers Lyrics 15 years ago
One of the few Lush songs that is perfect for singing along to in the car! The meaning's pretty obvious; it's about jerks with fucked up ideas about women/love that she's met.

Re: Weezer
"Question: is 'ladykillers' really about Matt Sharp from weezer/rentals?
LushLive: one verse is."

Camper Van Beethoven – Devil Song Lyrics 16 years ago
Definitely one of my favorite songs off Our Beloved Revolutionary Sweetheart! I always figured it was about doing something stupid and extreme for a stupid and irrational reason - see "burn down the house/there's a devil in the closet." There are also lots of references to history repeating, blahblah. I think it's pretty obvious.
This song always makes me think of religious crusades and that episode of Strangers With Candy where Jerri's stepfather can't make it to Career Day because he has demons in his head that need to be removed by a licensed medical professional.

Britney Spears – (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction (Rolling Stones cover) Lyrics 19 years ago
The part that freaks me out more than the kids who actually think this is an original song of hers is the fact that, unless I'm terribly mistaken, Mick Jagger had to allow her to sing this song. You know, copyright laws and so on. Maybe I'm wrong, though. I hope I'm wrong.

I could talk about song meanings, but I don't see any point in bothering.

The Shins – Kissing the Lipless Lyrics 19 years ago
I agree with the first part being about sex, of course. I sort of differ on the rest of it, but that's probably just me being silly. I've always sort of thought of this song being about two people who break up but try to stay friendly afterwards, with little luck. For instance,"But you've got too much to wear on your sleeves/It has too much to do with me" made me think of them having a history together. They want to stay civil, but it is, as Mercer says later, "Hard to leave all those moments behind". "And secretly I want to bury in the yard the gray remains of a friendship scarred" makes me think of the notrious, "I Want To Break Up With You, But We Can Still Be Friends". To me, it seems to suggest that they still talk and maybe even hang out sometimes, but the whole thing is awkward and he really just wants to be done with it.

I think the first line of the second part is about her moving out--she's telling all of her friends, including the narrator, about her new life at her new house, or wherever she's living. She's got a new boyfriend who's got her "talking pretty loud." Obviously, he dotes on her (or at least, she pretends he does to make the Narrator feel jealous)

I'm not sure about the lines,
"you berate
remember your ailing heart
and your criminal eyes"
The "criminal eyes" part makes me think she was cheating on him, causing them to break up, and the line, "Remember your ailing heart" above it says to me, "quit acting like the victim" But I'm not really sure.

Think the last part of the second verse is about her saying that she still loves him and wants to get back together (obviously), but he thinks it'd be
a) awkward and
b) stupid, because she cheated on him.

And the rest is about her trying to win him back by acting differently...

SpineofaJellyFish--
I think ihadalitlweenie is correct--basically, she's trying to be tough or hard (like metal), but she's really soft, like doe's skin and petals. So, her "metal" or toughness is fake because she's too soft.... So, she's "testing" them by pretending to be hard while she's really soft inside...dig? Sorry, I'm kind of bad at explaining things. Sorry if this whole comment was a bit incoherent, because I'm really bad and organizing ideas...
