The best thing is about a girl, Matty T said so. Be my escape and I need you are both about god/jesus. I'm not sure with this song, I feel it could go either way. Matt said in an interview when someone asked if Taking You With Me was about god or a girl that the specific song was written about a girl, but he likes songs to be open to people's interpretations. So either way you like I guess for this song! |

Nope. It starts with a recording from the Atlanta airport tram. Concourse B as in Bravo. My guess is that it was the place where Matt and his ex broke up... so the beginning of the album starts where the break up started. |

His ex-fiance used to be a radio host in Atlanta. Sounds like after the breakup... just passing through Atlanta, maybe hoping to see her. Also, the Atlanta airport is one of the largest in the world. There are a bunch of terminals and you can either take a tram to your terminal or walk through. No one ever walks through, but if you do there is a bunch of sculptures and art to look at as you walk. If you walk the entire way it's like 2-3 miles I think. So I think this song is referencing walking through the empty terminals, contemplating everything about the breakup and not being able to get over his ex-fiance. Pretty sad song.
As far as the meaning... he realizes he messed up, and saying he has to accept grace to get over his mistake. But he doesn't want to keep having to fall back on grace, he wants to become a better person.

I mean... the song and record is about making mistakes and moving past them. If he messed up, he realizes he messed up. He just has to move on-- "forget and not slow down". Dwelling on your mistakes is the worst thing and I think that is the central meaning of this song and record. Also, he realizes what he did was bad, but he also knows he can be a better person "Resurrect the saint from within the wretch". I think Matt is a great guy and writes amazing songs (many songs that other Christian bands wouldn't write). The song "The Truth" focuses on him doubting God and how difficult it is to believe. How many other Christian bands would bring that stuff up on a record? Not many. Normally its all about how great God is. Matt realizes people aren't perfect. People doubt God (even many Christians). People make mistakes, the important thing is moving past the mistakes and not dwelling on them. Realizing you can be a better person. Matt gets across tough relevant messages without being too preachy or cheesy. |

Great song! I'm amazed at the difference in this record from their last (I think this one is much better), but this record is all about moving past mistakes. The last record had none of that. It was all happy. Makes you wonder if he did something bad that he needs to move on with, or just move on after his fiance broke up with him. The lines "resurrect the saint within the wretch" makes me think he messed up somehow. |

Amazing... brilliant... best song off the new CD. I would have put this as the first single.
As far as the meaning goes... I feel it's about Matty T's breakup with his fiance. She broke up with him after she found out some things that "she just couldn't handle". Some people said that Matt cheated on her... but who knows.
I think the song is talking about after the breakout. He's still thinking about her all the time. "I felt a chill and and i wanted to say it was you." Then it moves on about him wondering what she is thinking about him. If she still likes him. He knows that he is still on her mind. The chorus is saying to believe him, whether it's about him truly loving her or about cheating on her or doing something else "she just couldn't handle."

I think the album was a digression as well, but i feel like there were some real highlights where they really shined, the problem is... my favorite wasn't on the CD, Fallen Man was amazing, one of my favorite songs yet from Relient K, also Death Bed, I Need You, Forgiven and Devestation and Reform were all highlights in my own opinion. I thought Come Right Out and Say It was the catchiest song and should have been the second single, but also felt they fell far short of what they could have accomplished... Forgiven was a weak slow song compared with (The Moments I Feel Faint, Getting Into You, and When I Go Down), and songs like Must Have Done Something Right, The Best Thing (although there are some good riffs there), this song, are all a little too sugar coated for me, also I have personally never liked Faking My Own Suicide, it just never sounded good to me. This is just my own opinion, not to offend anyone, if u have any comments i'd love to hear them! Man... I can't believe Fallen Man wasn't on the album! |

I don't really agree with that... mmhmm has I so hate consequences (Oh God, Oh God I needed you), Life After Death and Taxes (the title of the song speaks for itself), Be My Escape (clearly about God), and When I Go Down (and life is now worth living if only because of you, and when they say that i am dead and gone it won't be further from the truth)
Then on Five Score... Deathbed... i think that's more than enough, and all the other ones have stuff in it, like Give and Bite My Tongue, but true, there are alot of relationship songs, but there were ones like that on the old album too... like 17 Magazine, Sadie Hawkins Dance, and Mood Rings (just picking one off each of the previous albums) |

definitely the strongest line in the song, the more i listen to it, the more i like it, he's basically saying you can't see past my mistakes, so you'll never truly understand how to love others, so you will fail again and again at being a Christian, but in the end it will be alright because everyone is forgiven |

That being said, i like the song's darker tone, i just think the chorus is a bit cheesy, i mean... i like them staying Christian, but the verses are so dark and then he just goes way too high on the chorus and it's just cheesy lyrics too, he needs something deeper on the chorus |

yea, i agree, the other person did something to Matty T, and he's really upset with them, but he realizes he can't judge them for what they did, even if it was something they did to him
the first two verses are kind of interesting, i'm almost getting a vibe it's about a relationship and the other person did something horrible to him, and he's ready to get over it, and even though the other person is horrible he'll still be friends, he just will never trust that person again
I also think this is better than Must Have Done Something Right, can't believe this isn't even on the CD, that's crazy, and faking my own suicide is (i thought that wasn't good at all) |

I don't think he's really talking about being schizophrenic or any real mental disorder. I think it's about a relationship and he still likes the girl, but they broke up. And he's just being depressed over her, and he's just saying he's not crazy, just a little unwell. Also he's telling the girl she's eventually going to think of him and how they used to be when they were together. |

I don't really know what this song is about, it's all over the place. There is chris, who used to go to all the shows, but i guess he doesn't anymore. Maybe he thinks the guys are getting to into the band and don't care about their friends anymore. Then Matt is saying he doesn't care if Chris doesn't come to the show, but then some girl says you've gotten so caught up with the band you've forgot who you really are and who your real friends are maybe...? i don't know tell me what ya think! KoanTao, the church might have taken aspects from a Pagan holiday's for Christmas so it was easier for the Pagan people to adapt to Christianity, but that doesn't have anything to do with the songmeaning here, it's a great song, about the true meaning of Christmas (or i guess the birth of Christ if u're going to get specific since as you already pointed out, most likely Christ was born in the summer and we just adapted Christmas to a Pagan holiday) |

i can see how u might think its about a relationship but i think it's about his relationship with jesus, that's why he's saying about coming back (because jesus is suppose to come back), and also midst of your perfection... well, jesus was perfect and sinless, and he's saying jesus isn't going to come back while he's alive (maybe, i'm not sure) so he's got to find a way to get to him where the sun is always shining (heaven)

Just to end this argument I can tell you what happened about the girl in the video. Their manager or whatever said he wanted to put a girl in just a little bit, and matt didn't have a problem with it. Matt didn't realize that it was going to be such a huge problem till after the video came out, and he says now that he wished he didn't put the girl in the video. Also, Relient K is not becoming secular, Matt theissen actually didn't want to go on tour with Simple Plan and Good Charlotte, he wanted to try to go on tour with MxPx (which they are now). But the record label made them go on tour with them, so matt took this as an opportunity to reach out to a broader audience with their music (not becoming secular as some of u have thought). The song is about God too, matt said so. And the reason they seem less religious than before is because matt thought it was starting to get cheesy that he was putting Jesus's name in every single song and thought he could make it religious without being so cheesy (that was in his interview too). Amazing song... very confusing on the meaning, but i'm going to give my take on this.... Most of their songs are about God and stuff, but i really think this one is about a girl... "You wear skirts, I write nice letters".... i think it's about a relationship breakup... the first part (like paragraph) is about having to get over it because he realizes he shouldn't have to dwell on a girl... then the second part is about the break up he's saying it's like colder because he's alone, and that he likes to pity himself and cry on his own shoulder... but then he's saying that he has to get over it again and "just throw on a sweater and go"... the third part is saying how he's having a change of heart and he's just contemplating about the relationship and everything that went wrong (staring out his window while eating cereal)... then the fourth part is about him still liking her and how much he likes her even though she doesn't like him "i'll kiss your face you try to deck mine".. but he knows he still has to get over her so once again at the end of the fourth part he says "Guess I know, guess i'll throw on" like he knows he needs to get over her even though he doesn't want to... the fifth part is about how's he's trapped into liking her even though he wants to escape it (he kinda has to know he should) but at the end he's ready to forget her again..... the sixth part is about him knowing he desperately needing to change and he relates it to needing a surgery, and at the end of the sixth part he is contemplating about it again (even though the first time he thought about it he still couldn't get over her... the seventh part is about him contemplating about how confusing she is and he's been thinking about it alot (bags under his eyes) and then he realizes he needs to get his other priorities straight and not worry about the girl, like becoming a better friend, a better person, a better son (like to god)..... the eigth part he has finally gotten over the girl and now he is focusing on god like he should have in the first place.... then the last two parts are about how he has change and he hopes the new him shows and then he realizes he doesn't need anything else but god ...... that's my take people, tell me if u think that is close at all, lol |

I love this song, but i'm not really sure what it means. It's either one of three things i think. I think it's either saying that we shouldn't get involved in relationships and get so worried about them that we forget about god.... or else that we shouldn't worry about what other people say about us because he is saying everyone is laughing at him and no one will ever be content (even though he is) so he's just not going to worry about it..... or the last one is about going out and being a disciple of god and helping people see the truth this line is where i'm getting this one possibly from----"I must admit that all the words you spoke, I hated
