Oh my god. What the crap was I on when I wrote that comment? I mean *Amanda*... not Amy. Jesus. @_@ I think I'm losing it. :P

This is another one of Amy's songs about the pain and the despair of being being alone -- especially after a break-up. I think that a lot of us have been there... and this song really speaks to me. It's kind of like Coin-Operated Boy... I mean, on the surface it just sounds like a song about a sex toy, but if you try and dig deeper, it's like Amy said -- it's about loneliness. I think she captures the agony and desolation of being alone so well. And I have to say, I love the way that she's done it in this song.
Cheers! :)

The Raconteurs – Together Lyrics 18 years ago
I love this song... it's so beautiful, yet kind of sad. Maybe I'm wrong about the song (hopefully not! :D)... but.... I think that the person the singer is talking about wants the typical 'fairy tale' romance, but I think they're trying to rush things and get that sort of love *right now*, whereas things like that take time and you just have to go with the flow. The singer on the otherhand knows that you have to *wait* for something like that, and in the meantime, they're going to add a little bit of a twist to the romance (I'm adding something new to the mixture/So there's a different hue to your picture/A different ending to this fairytale/When the sunset into which we sail). I don't know... I just like this sort of idealistic sort of love with a dash of unconventional-ness added... maybe that's just me.
Cheers :)

The Raconteurs – Steady, As She Goes Lyrics 18 years ago
Wow. I remember hearing this song for the first time on the radio and I just *loved* the opening bass riff. Aw man, it was pretty much just orgasmic. Then I heard their voices. Holy crap, I was pretty sure that I was in love with this band. I think their voices and talents blend together so well -- I'm glad that Jack is branching out.

Anyways, this song -- I think it's about a guy who loves the single life (who doesn't?), but society never fails to pressure you into getting married and having kids, and that's pretty much what's happening here. He sees his friends in a new light and realizes that, "Hey, maybe I should settle down...?" But that's followed by the fact that if he settles down, he's never going to truly be happy that way. I kinda see it as saying that society is pressuring us into doing things that we're uncomfortable with or just not ready for yet (but maybe I'm crazy...?).

Either way, think what you will -- this is an amazing song. I can't wait for the album -- which comes out on May 15/16. :) Cheers guys!

The Beatles – Not a Second Time Lyrics 18 years ago
I think this could apply to anyone, really -- not just John or guys. It's mostly self-explanitory... The person has been with someone who left them, but realizes that maybe the break up hit them harder than they'd thought or that they want to get back together... and the singer realizes that anything good that could come of getting together again won't outweigh the pain that they felt and will feel later on. Sorry this is kind of rambly... but right now, this is the story of my life. ._. I know how John felt.

The Beatles – Sexy Sadie Lyrics 18 years ago
Wow. I didn't think about the meaning of this song until I visited this page... but I suppose that makes sense. If you Google it (Maharishi Beatles Sexy Sadie) and click on the first Wikipedia result it comes up with the whole story. (Although, Wikipedia isn't always reliable...) And sorry to say, it *does* say a little diddy about Manson.
But did you guys know that Sadie Frost (Jude Law's ex-wife actress) was named after this song? I just thought that was kind of cute that they were both named after Beatles songs.
Cheers!

The Hopefuls – Let's Go! Lyrics 19 years ago
This song is SO not about ninjas in love.... XP
Lmao... J/k man! I luff ya.
I think it's more of a sort of... um... Hm... Like... optimistic approach to things. 'Everyday is a disaster' so like... everything sucks... 'So we live for the darkness' So instead of feeling sorry for ourselves and moping about, we're gonna take advantage of something we like... And then the rest of the song is pretty much all the fun stuff they do.... That's just *my* take on the song though... :D

Green Day – Holiday Lyrics 19 years ago
Thanks Scattered for the info...
Hmm... I've got mixed reactions about this... Well, I guess it's fine if other people don't see the beauty of the song, at least we'll all know, right? :) And plus, I'm pretty stoked about seeing the vid. Hope it's a good one... and a little more creative than BOBD and AI.... Although, I loved those too. :)

Okay... so this is kinda off topic or delayed or whatever, but I wanted to thank Scattered for recognizing me as not being one of the like... 'regular' kind of punks that we see everywhere now.
And also, I agree with Scattered on the fact that if there was a facist government in America, there would be no American Idiot album. Absolutely not. I mean, if you go and look at what Hitler (facist!) did -- then you'll see that America isn't -all- like that. Hitler went and burned 'anti-German' books (like All Quiet on the Western Front... which in my opinion actually made me sympathise a bit with the Germans -- or well... just for Paul and Kat and the gang.) So, let's just be glad that you know, our country doesn't do that sort of thing. Or not really....
But I also have to say that there really ARE similarities between the Bush administration and Hitler. Feb. 28, 1933: German government takes away freedom of speech, assembly, press, and freedom from invasion of privacy (ie: mail, telphone, telegraph), and from house search w/o warrant. Okay. So doesn't this ring a bell with the whole... Department of Homeland Security and the Patriot Act? I'm not totally educated in this matter, but I do know that the government apparently has the right to go and hack into your computer if they have "reasonable" knowledge that you're doing something to hurt the country or whatever. Or they can check your mail or call you into custody. I'm not taking that to the extreme (ie: the feds can just ransack your house at any time) -so don't twist my words. I just wanted to point that little fact out.
I also think that Ccomics88's idea was kinda cool... it makes the whole "Holiday" thing seem much more sensible... since I wasn't really sure how to take it before.
And is this really their new single? Like, will they be making a music video for it? Sorry if they already have... I don't have cable and my computer doesn't play vids, so I wouldn't know... I wouldn't want this song to become like BOBD where a lot of people are sick of it and don't really care about it anymore, 'cuz they're both really great songs... American Idiot too... I love that song... in fact, the entire album just rocks....

Marcy Playground – Sex And Candy Lyrics 19 years ago
So I heard this song on the radio a couple of weeks ago and instantly fell in love with it. It's so amazingly good. And it had really easy lyrics so that by the second time the chorus came around I was singing along. I really wasn't sure *what* to think of the song, hence my reason for coming on here. And, after reading pretty much all the comments, I think I agree with VioletZebras idea the most. And it's actually the most *fun* of all the meanings. I mean, come on... enjoying a post-coital drag on a cigarette and having your roomie come in? Yeah. This is so totally that.

To Culture_of_Fear... "Zeig Heil" means show well-being... or I guess it also could be show welfare. But it's (in my opinion) in reference to Arnold S., since the line before it refers to "the representative from California." But interpret it however you want. :)
To Scattered... Oh, I wouldn't say that I'm the stereotypical punk... I mean, I've only got my ears single pierced and don't have any other bodily piercings/artwork on me. I think being punk is about being independent too. Mostly about being a non-conformist and doing your own thing, right? Which is basically what I do. So yeah... Just filling ya in. :) But it's cool what you said, I like other people's opinions... (most of the time... lol... :D)
A question for everyone.... Um... what exactly is the line "On holiday" refering to? I took it as like the time that the troops are spending over in the warzone area, but I wasn't quite sure... So if someone could fill me in, that'd be sweet. *-*

Green Day – She's a Rebel Lyrics 19 years ago
I totally love this song. It's just so beautiful sounding. I esp. like the part "sings the revolution / the dawning of our lives / she brings the liberation / that I just cant define / nothing comes to mind" It's just so... I don't know... I like his voice a lot at that part though....
And I agree with Underrated and UTasteAdrenaline... it's so awesome how he can pump out 3 syllables from a *supposedly* one syllable word....
I like your idea, Whatshername, about the whole America being interchangeable with 'she', I never thought of it that way and thought that was cool.
And lastly, I *totally* agree with davidecoyote. Whatsername seems to be like a drug to Jimmy and he just feels like he can't get enough of her. It's kinda twisted, but really beautiful at the same time. I *love* it. Lol...

Okay, first off, I'm not all 'ANARCHY' at all... if anything, I'm kinda Marxist. And second, I don't "dress in tight black clothes with spikes all over you and an upside down flag on your back, smokin weed, not getting an education ecause your so wrapped up in being punk and rebellious", okay? Don't lump all of us into one select group of people - not all Green Day listeners are like that, as I'm sure you, (AirSoftSam) should know since you listen to them and you seem to denounce people who do stuff like wear black clothes and whatnot. Sure, I'm a bit of a rebel. Yes, I admit that, but that's not to say that I'm all out smoking weed and being lazy, sitting at home not doing anything. I chose to be politically active and I had a job on election day trying to get people to vote. Kay? (I have no idea if I *can* be defending myself on here, but w/e.)
I could really care less what people are like. Just that we like the same music and I'd like to talk about that, instead of what we wear or do.
And I also stick by what I said before, yes, I do believe that Bush is kinda like Hitler. A lesser form of the dictator, but yes, indeed, he is still like him in some ways. I'm not going to completely renounce that.
Another thing... wasn't sure if you were talking to me about this, but I didn't say that the whole album was a 'fuck Bush rant' at all. I just said this song was, (and though I didn't quite say this --->), as well as a 'fuck administration and government' song. So yeah.
Last thing... to AirSoftSam... Erm... I took the Eiffel Tower thing to be more metaphorical than literal. Let's all think back to that Freedom Fries crap again....
Okay... sorry for my little mini-rant... Cheers everyone!! *-*

To BurningSmile -- You're my hero... Okay, not really, but I totally agree with you... Rock on. Lol...
And to EightHoursAway -- I don't agree with the fact that the Bush and Hitler thing is naive... I mean, it's quite true what they're talking about... It really seems like Bush (and his administration) are aiming to take control of the Middle East and spread their "Christian" views over everyone... I mean, I don't want to get into a whole political rant, but seriously, the Hitler and Bush thing... genius.... (in my opinion at least... you don't have to agree....)
But I do agree with the thing about Arnold. I always interpreted the whole "representative from California" thing as it being Arnold S. (Lol... don't know how to spell his name). And wasn't one of Arnold's relatives (like his dad... I'm not sure though....) a Nazi officer? I'm not hinting that just because someone has relatives like that means that they're like that too, but just pointing it out... So yeah...
Either way... this song is fucking amazing and it's got to be my favorite Green Day song... I totally listen to it all the time and I completely agree with their fuck Bush attitude!
