Silversun Pickups – Lazy Eye Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Probably song of the year, and I'm saying this in mid-February. It's like a Smashing Pumpkins cover of an old Breeders song...damn, that makes me want to hear Smashing Pumpkins do a Breeders song. |
They Might Be Giants – Particle Man Lyrics | 17 years ago |
As for the whole Watchmen thing, it's disturbingly appropriate. Dr. Manhattan seems to fit aspects of both Universe Man and Particle Man. He has no personality ("What's he like? It's not important"), his symbol is the hydrogen atom, etc. He's also a godlike figure, and, even better, is constantly connected with watch imagery. Also, the line "when they meet, it's a happy land" is a horrifying description of the ending, where the "doomsday clock" running through the series strikes midnight, and the villain's scheme to cause world peace, through killing a massive amount of people (it makes sense in the story, I just don't want to spoil it), goes off, creating a "happy land" through fear of a greater enemy. Universe Man could also be that "threat," as it is enormously powerful and more directly tied to the "watch hands" motifs, and unspeakably large. Triangle Man is Ozymandius. OK, screw the spoiler thing, he's the villain. First, he is paired consistently with the pyramid, which is what, everybody? A TRIANGLE! Good, children! He also kills our apparent Person Man (Rorschach, I'll get to him) and causes Particle(/Universe?) Man to go away forever. He "wins" in the end, i.e. beating everybody. Person Man, as noted, is Rorschach. He lives most of his life as a bum, i.e. "in a garbage can," and is depressed, a mess, and generally feels totally worth-less. (Yes, you have to type it that way, captures the inflection). Hell, he's downright insane in a lot of ways. And, of course, they have a fight, and Triangle wins. It sounds weird, but it fits nearly every word of the song in some way, so it does make you think. |
Pixies – I Bleed Lyrics | 18 years ago |
If we're gonna talk about songs Nirvana sotle from the Pixies, I think "In Bloom" sounds WAY too much like "I Bleed." |
Pixies – Caribou Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Yep, werewolf. |
Pixies – Down To The Well Lyrics | 18 years ago |
That last part...true, very true. Also, a lot of people talk about how "Smells Like Teen Spirit" is a ripoff of "Gouge Away," or stuff like that (personally, I think "In Bloom" is closer to "I Bleed" than those two), but I can't hear this song without thinking of "Creep" by Radiohead. And when I say "can't hear without thinking of," I mean "ripoff." |
Pixies – Gouge Away Lyrics | 18 years ago |
It's funny. When I listened to this song a lot, trying to think of what it might mean, I thought about the title and Samson and Delilah popped into my head for some reason. Then I listened closely to the song, and looked up the lyrics...instinct, I guess lol |
Pixies – Winterlong Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Umm, excuse me, but I don't think even Mariah Carey could screw up a song much worse than Def Leppard could, even if it weren't even her song. |
Pixies – The Navajo Know Lyrics | 18 years ago |
The opening drum always makes me confuse this with Wave of Mutilation for the first few seconds, but then that SOUND...I can't even describe it...and I instantly know what song it is. |
Pixies – There Goes My Gun Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I thought it was "yo-ho," as in piratey kinda talk lol The whole song evokes pirate imagery in my mind. Yo-ho-ho...friend or foe (i.e., trying to discern an enemy ship)...there goes my gun (cannon)...or I'm just crazy. |
Pixies – Space (I Believe In) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Well, that's your opinion. Incidentally, screw you lol What's wrong with this song? |
The White Stripes – White Moon Lyrics | 19 years ago |
The first verse at least makes it seem to me that the song is about people prying into Jack's private life, which we ALL know he hates more than nearly anything else. Granted, the thin veil of a vaguely incestual relationship with one of the only women you ever see him with kinda backfired on him, but people really should leave the guy alone. |
Pixies – Tony's Theme Lyrics | 19 years ago |
My theory: Retarded guy (or a kid, but I just got a bit of a manchild vibe off the whole song) who rides around his neighborhood on a bicycle wearing a cape, pretending to be a superhero. And Frank Black thought he was cool and wrote a song about him. Ride on Tony, ride on. |
Pixies – Ana Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Oye, u ran, o! |
Pixies – Bam Thwok Lyrics | 19 years ago |
She sounds so much like Debbie Harry on this song. Wonderful. |
Pixies – Bone Machine Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Helpful? Me? Why, I'm just a humble, multi-dimensional, supernova, anti-friction Disney movie. |
Pixies – Lovely Day Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I always (still do, actually) thought the line was "Thank God we're leaving today," like they just want the hell out of wherever. Mexico, it sounds like, but Puerto Rico probably, knowing Frank Black. |
Pixies – Space (I Believe In) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Everybody in music has jammed with Ravi Shankar. I have no idea how either could be inspired by the other (they came out too close to each other), but the...umm...chorus? lol of this song reminds me of a scene in the Twin Peaks movie, Fire Walk With Me...there's a bizarre scene with a character (played by David Bowie of all people) named Phillip Jeffries, who appears and disappears suddenly, recounting a bizarre series of events in between. The plural, as it were, of Jeffrey would be Jeffries, which has two F's, i.e. two F's would require two *Jeffries*. I'm crazy. But think about it, man... |
Pixies – Subbacultcha Lyrics | 19 years ago |
It's a hell of a lot of fun to just shout along with the song at random parts. "You know when you grope for LU-NA!" is one of the funnest damn things to say on te face of the earth. |
Weezer – Beverly Hills Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Wow, somebody replied to my post by name. I'm flattered lol I also agree that having Rick on as producer bodes very well. Even if he was slightly hands-off, he heard the damn thing. His TASTE in music is a high standard. Even if he hadn't produced it, I'd buy any Weezer album the guy LIKED. Granted, he also co-founded Def Jam. |
Republica – Ready To Go Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Love this song. Very Garbage. Very simplistic, (some would say repetitive...who are we kidding, it is, but what it's repeating is so damn good lol) and just plain kicks ass. Tends to pop up occasionally, think I saw it in a few commercials and trailers for movies, but never got much recognition. All-around great song. |
Weezer – Beverly Hills Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Is it Weezer? No. Is it good? Yes. Besides, Rivers referred to this as a rap song recently...which means it can't possibly be anything at all like what the rest of the album will be. Has Rick Rubin ever produced utter crap? No. Leave the boys alone, they know what they're doing. |
Weezer – Beverly Hills Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Does not sound like Weezer. Good, but it doesn't sound like Weezer. It doesn't even sound like Homie (you people should get that reference). It sounds like Sublime covering something from Pinkerton. I don't entirely like the idea of outside vocals, especially female vocals, on a Weezer song (unless Mykel and Carli were still alive), but they fit the song. I don't think the lyrics are stupid. They know they're geeks, and they're using it. It's definitely a lot more ironic and sarcastic than a lot of their stuff, and we'll really see that in the video, which should be quite cool. |
Pixies – Trompe Le Monde Lyrics | 19 years ago |
It seems to me to be predicting the rise of rap and the fall of actual music. The first part is describing some sort of vision, the two middle lines refer to the rise of sampling, and the last part explains that music is becoming an overly electronic bastardization of itself, where every song has "twice occurred" (sampling), everything is "electircally played," and the Pixies and good music in general are "going away on holiday." |
Pixies – U-Mass Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Well, when a man and a woman love each other very much..... |
Pixies – U-Mass Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Well, when a man and a woman love each other very much..... |
Pixies – Velouria Lyrics | 19 years ago |
So the word "Shastasheen" is only partially gibberish. It all makes so much sense now... |
Pixies – La La Love You Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Dude, read the above comments, and never dedicate this song to somebody ever again. Ever. Although this song does make me wonder why they never let this guy sing anything else. Good God, does EVERYBODY in this band have an awesome voice? |
Pixies – Motorway To Roswell Lyrics | 19 years ago |
As a conspiracy nut, I know we didn't kill the thing. We kept the live one captive and dissected his dead friend, but we didn't kill either of them. The military would not risk shooting down an alien spacecraft, we don't want the Kree up our ass. |
Pixies – Bone Machine Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Just making sure I'm not completely crazy. About this, anyway. I still don't think we should dismiss the "stoned-ass Frank Black writing random words on a cocktail napkin" theory, though. |
Pixies – Bone Machine Lyrics | 19 years ago |
It could mean something very unexpected and possibly quite telling of a deep, dark part of St. Francis the Black's psyche. After listening to this song far more times than any human being should, I think that this song may be about a man (probably not Frank himself, but who the hell knows) with a cuckolding fetish (i.e., being aroused by the thought or sight of your wife/girlfriend cheating on you). The first hint is the line "You're so pretty when you're unfaithful to me," plus the lines about "dropping off her Japanese lover." In the second verse, he finally reveals to the other man (i.e. Japanese dude) what's been going on, that he's essentially a pawn in some sick sex game, and the guy proceeds to try to beat the crap out of him ("molest" is an interesting play on words there, as was mentioned before). Also, in a lsightly unrelated note, the line "Your bone's got a little machine" could be referring to this guy being a real human being, and her not treating him like one...possibly relating to him being a pawn in their weird little game (i.e. bone=umm, his "bone," and the machine=the rest of his being, as in theres a machine [person] behind that "bone"). The parts after both verses would be referring to how cheap their "love" has become in the midst of all this crazy shit going on. Just a thought...and more of an explanation than the usual Frank-Black-got-stoned-out-of-his-gourd-and-shit-some-words-on-a-piece-of-paper Pixies lyric theory. |

Tenacious D – Explosivo Lyrics | 19 years ago |
"We've come to blow you away, We've come to blow your nose" Sheer aweosmeness..."Explosivo: For that once-a-month clean." |
Tenacious D – One Note Song Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Anybody happen to know what one note they play? |
Pixies – Velouria Lyrics | 19 years ago |
As much as I love Weezer, and I love Weezer, their version can not compare to the original. |
Pixies – Trompe Le Monde Lyrics | 19 years ago |
There is just something so perfect about the melody of this song. It may be my new favorite song. |
The White Stripes – The Union Forever Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Sounded like that part was about Jesus to me, but what the hell do I know? |
The White Stripes – Suzy Lee Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Whoever this Suzy Lee character is, she's in like 5 songs. |
The White Stripes – The Hardest Button to Button Lyrics | 19 years ago |
It sounds to me like he's trying to start a new life, but he's writing this song to the person who's holding him back, an ex-lover or something, and he can't seem to deal with them. There's only one thing left and he'll be able to start again, but they're "the hardest button to button." No idea about the first part, but a voodoo doll can be used to heal as much as it can hurt, and they're often used for good, but you never hear about that. I think. Or something. |
The White Stripes – The Big Three Killed My Baby Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Sounds very political, but even before I thought cars I knew it was about some industry somehow. Still reminds me of Kill Bill though. |
The White Stripes – Suzy Lee Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Whoever this Suzy Lee character is, she's in like 5 songs. |
The White Stripes – Stop Breaking Down Lyrics | 19 years ago |
The main riff has a cool, jerky, halting style to it. Ridiculously cool song. |
The White Stripes – Seven Nation Army Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Great lyrics, a mind-f*ck of a video, and several of the lowest notes ever played on a guitar (I think most people still think that's a bass line), incredible. I think it's a parable. It tells a story of sorts, but it's very allegorical. |
The White Stripes – Screwdriver Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Jet stole this riff. Kidding. Incredible riff though. |
The White Stripes – Little Room Lyrics | 19 years ago |
There are way too many comments for a song of this length lol Go talk about Cannon or something. |
The White Stripes – Jimmy The Exploder Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I really don't think the song is supposed to make sense. No song with the line "Yeah, monkey" in it wants to be taken seriously. |
The White Stripes – It's True That We Love One Another (feat. Holly Golighty) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
"Holly give me some of your English lovin' If I did that Jack I'd have one in the oven Why don't you go off and love yourself? If I did that Holly there won't be anything Left for anybody else" Strangely dirty for the White Stripes, but hilarious. |
The White Stripes – In the Cold, Cold Night Lyrics | 19 years ago |
"I kinda think this song is about death..." Not every song is about death, people. |
The White Stripes – I Fought Piranhas Lyrics | 19 years ago |
"And I kept my papers, To keep from land in jail" How awesome is that? "To keep from land in jail." |
The White Stripes – Expecting Lyrics | 19 years ago |
It does sound very similar to the riff from Iron Man, but a lot of their songs (especially the ones from White Blood Cells, ESPECIALLY Hotel Yorba) sound exactly like old songs, and not just types, but SPECIFIC songs. Not to diminish their talent, in fact I think it's quite refreshing. |
