I'm surprised that none of you brought this up sooner, but many Pink Floyd songs are about their former member Syd Barrett. Syd was the original song writer for the band, but years of drug use led to a breakdown which resulted in his replacement in 1968 by Dave Gilmour. Prior to his replacement, Syd wouldn't appear at gigs and interviews regularly, and when he did he seemed very confused. He had become increasingly disconnected with reality. This leads me to believe that many of these songs, about madness, were written with him in mind.
And for the record, the name "Pink Floyd" was derived from two blues musicians: Pink Anderson and Floyd Council. :) |

Recently, 3 boys from my school died in a car accident.
I listened to this song today, and couldn't help but think of them.
All three of them were very adventurous, and a boy at the memorial reassured us by saying: "These guys are skating on THE FATTEST hills now, and when they wipe out, it doesnt even hurt".
They had also all just graduated. They'll never grow old now.. they'll never be hungry again. It really will always be summer for them, because it had only just begun when they left us.
For me this song will relate to death, their deaths. Everyone has a right to interpret it differently though. |

I agree! before you say dave is a sellout just put on a dave song and close your eyes and just listen. like everyday...listen to how it makes you feel. his music isnt just for the ears, it'll move your whole soul. if you dont like him, dont listen. what's wrong with him wanting more people to like his music? why shouldnt he be trying to make everyone feel his music the way his first real fans do. honestly...any chord he plays, any note he sings...he will make it great. he DOES play for the fun of it. i dont blame him AT ALL and no one else should either. i love all of you who stuck up for him! *phew* |

i love this song. it is so calming and peaceful, it's just such a gentle lullaby and so sweet and thoughtful, i'd like to sing it publicly but i suppose lack of a son would cause me to hold back...there's also the fact that no one can sing it like him...it's just amazing. |

I agree with sfgirl82, that part of the song is definitely a turn on. The first time I played this for my boyfriend I could see his face light up. It's definitely a sexy song...I'm listening to it right now. It was the first song on this album that really grabbed my attention, I love it. |

I second what sfgirl82 said. It's so relaxing and calm and you just want to be with your lover when you hear it. Me and my boyfriend sing it when we're together, not all the time of course, but it's attached to some great memories. AHH i love this song. So Beautiful.
BY THE WAY- She says "I'm all you need" at the VERY VERY VERY end, and it's relatively quiet and said very calm, just listen carefully and you'll catch it. |

Dave is the only man who can describe sex in such a way as this. So poetic, smooth, sweet, but still lustful.
