Sage Francis – Little Houdini Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Fantastic song, one of Sage's best ever in my opinion. It tells the true story of Christopher Daniel Gay aka Little Houdini: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christopher_Daniel_Gay I've read a variety of news reports about this guy and most of the events mentioned in this song seem to be completely factually correct. The 'chorus' parts about the mother's plea are even a direct quote of her actual words to the police, more-or-less. The only part of this song that I've found no evidence to be true, is this verse: "Similar situation, it was a bizarre coincidence When he escaped from the prison the first time, Not this time, but the one before He visited his dad Cause he was dying inside of a mental ward Suffering from Alzheimer's He paid respects Made his peace When he was done He didn't run He returned himself back to the police" I've not read anywhere that he escaped from prison to visit his dying dad, or that he ever turned himself back to the police after escaping. Does anybody know if Sage made this part up to embellish the story for the purposes of the song, or whether this did actually happen? I acknowledge that this verse certainly makes it an even more beautiful tale for the song, but it would be nice to know whether or not it's true. |
Hope of the States – Goodhorsehymn Lyrics | 16 years ago |
That's a terrible attempt at the lyrics... I think these are the real lyrics: So my throat is in bits, And my lungs are real sick. I could plaster on a fake smile, And ruin my life in style. I'll build home with useless kids, With all the ones that didn't fit. Fill your heart with love today And tell us all it's ok. If you're happy in the world tonight, You're lucky that you made it And everything's alright. If you're lonely when you sleep at night, I'm sorry that you knew me And nothing's turned out right. If you're happy in the world tonight, You're lucky that you made it And everything's alright. If you're lonely when you sleep at night, I'm sorry that you knew me And nothing's turned out right. |

It was tricky, I had to listen really closely to the song... Just thought people might wanna talk about the song. |

I love this song because it's something a bit different from the rest of the album, which to be honest is a bit samey. In this way it's a bit like Near Life on Embrace's Out of Nothing album. I suppose its about anger and letting it all out. |

This is my favourite song on the album. The piano bit after the first chorus and towards the end are amazing. Not too sure what it means though. About lack of confidence maybe? |

yeah, this is a b-side from the single Powder Blue, and a pretty cool song. |
