U2 – Wake Up Dead Man Lyrics 19 years ago
A couple of Biblical precidents for asking God to "wake-up"
Psa 44:23 Awake, why sleepest thou, O Lord? arise, cast [us] not off for ever.

Isa 51:9 Awake, awake, put on strength, O arm of the LORD; awake, as in the ancient days, in the generations of old.

And, since asleep and dead are used interchangebly in the Bible --
Mar 4:38 And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?

U2 – With or Without You Lyrics 19 years ago
junners: Could it be one saying to the other that "I can't live 'With-or-without-you' " ? In other words, it can't be both ways I don't want you sometimes, and not other times. Just my 2 cents. This is the first song I learned on the bass guitar and its one of the top 5 on my list.

U2 – Where The Streets Have No Name Lyrics 19 years ago
As with most U2 songs, because they are written by Christians, the content has dual-meanings (not to mention that as artists, they want the listener to interpret it the way that means the most to them). The primary inspiration for the song was the tent city in Africa (many of us have heard that directly from Bono). I was in a Christian Rock band back in the late eighties and early nineties and we played this song (my favorite U2 song) because we thought it was talking about Heaven. I know now that is not the meaning of the song, but a lament for those suffering and forgotten about in Africa, but knowing that now, I still would be proud to sing it in a Church because who are they that were in this city but "the least of these, my brethren".

U2 – God Part II Lyrics 19 years ago
I remember a comment from Bono (maybe) that this song was a respectful reply to Lennon's song. Basicly stating that just because I don't believe in something doesn't mean its not real (GOD).

U2 – Acrobat Lyrics 19 years ago
FullDevilSoccer: You are young so I will withhold the harsher criticism I had for you when I first read your post. I would just say this; that if you are a Christian, then the faster you get past the falicy of equating your country's cultural taboos with Christianity the sooner you will be able to think and act in a manner that is helpfull to mankind and pleasing to God. Saying that there are bastards in this world that want to "grind you down" is not equal to calling someone a bastard (ironicaly a word that would not have much meaning without the existence of organized religion)

U2 – Crumbs From Your Table Lyrics 19 years ago
I agree with webslinger. When I first heard this song, I was struck with shame for the American Evangelical Church we say we want to spread the Gospel to the world, but somehow we believe that we only need to "speak" the gospel of repentence and do very little in the way of comforting the sick and dying. How can they believe if they are hungry and we are wasteful?

"I would believe if I was able
But I’m waiting on the crumbs from your table"
