M.I.A. – Paper Planes Lyrics | 16 years ago |
this song is impossibly catchy...i can't stop listening to it. |
The Notwist – This Room Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I can't believe this album came out five years ago, almost six. It's so refreshing and wonderful...I really like herbivore's take on the song. I haven't given much thought to the lyrics because I've always been too engrossed in the beat |
Animal Collective – Cuckoo Cuckoo Lyrics | 16 years ago |
If this song were made of liquid and I was taking a bath in it, I would have some wrinkly fingers and toes. I can't. stop. listening. to it. I don't even want to explain it just yet, or get into it, I've just been enjoying its sounds. |
Animal Collective – Chores Lyrics | 16 years ago |
It's definitely I want to get so stoned And take a walk out in the light drizzle I got this on vinyl as a gift, and that's what the lyrics say on the sleeves. |
Grand National – Drink to Moving On Lyrics | 16 years ago |
No need to bottle up It's over and it's done Let's drink to moving on Sigh. I love this song. |
The Teenagers – Homecoming Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I think this is really enjoyable and funny if you don't take it at all seriously They have a song about Scarlett Johansson that is like reading her IMDB page ahaha it's so ridiculous |
Coconut Records – Nighttiming Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Oh Jason Schwartzman. This song is so fun. |
Regina Spektor – Bartender Lyrics | 17 years ago |
"Love is so fickle, it starts with a flood and ends with a trickle" One of my favorite lines from a song....ever. |
Regina Spektor – You Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I don't think it's necessarily saying you shouldn't leave someone. Leaving someone is inevitable. I feel like this song is about the first time you ever fall in love with someone in particular. "I'll never fall like that again." Yeah you'll fall in love again, but it'll never be the same as that first time. Also, names and dates and faces, places you were happy-- it's like when you go back to places that you went with them you'll always be reminded of them. And certain dates will have the same effect too. It's just such a wonderful song. All the lyrics are really simple and straightforward and it just...comes together perfectly. |
Animal Collective – The Purple Bottle Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I don't think the ending is necessarily about being on coke. He uses the term "crush high" and it made me think of being a kid, and when you have a crush on somebody, and you get those butterflies in your stomach and your heart races around them even if nothing's going on. So when he meets this girl, he's saying he's surprised that he feels that way around her, because he thought he had crushed all he could...etc. I don't know about the pills. I'm still thinking on that one. But I guess that's my take. As for "I wear a coat of feelings and they are loud" those are definitely the right lyrics. You can clearly hear them in the acoustic version someone posted a link to on YouTube. I think they make a lot of sense. It's like describing colors as being loud, I like to think of the feelings as being colors on a coat, and they're bright and vibrant, etc. because he's in such a good mood around this person. As opposed to being darker or more subdued colors. |
of Montreal – Wraith Pinned to the Mist (And Other Games) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i love the duchamp reference in this song...the first time i heard it i wasnt sure if i heard it correctly. but i just love it as a line. because it says so much in such a concise way. |
Gillian Welch – No One Knows My Name Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I heard Gillian play this song live last night when she opened for Bright Eyes, and my initial reaction was that it was about adoption. Her mother being just a girl of seventeen, gets pregnant accidentally by a man just passing through town. It's a wonder that she's in this world at all because it was such a chance meeting between her biological parents, and then her mother actually deciding to go through with the pregnancy and everything...I don't know, that's the feeling I get from it. Espeically "And a crowded street I see/A stranger's face that looks like me." Being adopted sometimes I feel the same way as the words in this song. I love her voice and music... |
The Spinto Band – Oh Mandy Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i looooove this song |
Jaymay – Gray Or Blue Lyrics | 17 years ago |
this is the kind of song i wish i wrote. i love the simplicity of the melody and how earnest the words are..."i can't keep staring at your mouth without wondering how it tastes." |
The Shaky Hands – Summer's Life Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I love this song...its one of those songs that gives me a certain feeling of nostalgia, the combination of music and lyrics. Sort of like "New Slang" by The Shins or "1979" by Smashing Pumpkins. I love that it's just guitar and clapping for a lot of it....a lovely little tune. |
Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Modern Romance Lyrics | 17 years ago |
this song is beautiful...tv on the radio does an incredible cover of it too. |
Animal Collective – Flesh Canoe Lyrics | 17 years ago |
oh don't be done crystalsunshine! i agree completely with you, in the sense that it reminds me of the stage of a relationship where you just wanna stay in bed all day under the covers, letting the sun sneak through the blinds |
Wilco – She's A Jar Lyrics | 17 years ago |
whenever i hear this song come on i have to immediately drop whatever i'm doing, with whomever i'm doing it with, and we slip into a trance-like state....by whomever i suppose i mean my roomate. but this song. oh. i couldn't do it justice with words. it's a gem. |
Mirah – We're Both So Sorry Lyrics | 17 years ago |
roomate got me into this....i looove this imagery in these lyrics, i love her voice, i love everything about this song |
Kings of Convenience – Misread Lyrics | 17 years ago |
my friend put this on a mix CD for me and it's become one of my faves...i'm still working out my own ideas about the lyrics but i love "how come no one told me all throughout history the loneliest people were the ones who always spoke the truth" |
Peter Bjorn and John – The Chills Lyrics | 17 years ago |
your tongue is sharp but i miss the taste of it... fantastic. |
Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Cheated Hearts Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think mystic_blues is right about "Kept my high from the second one, kept my eye on the first one" That you can't help but think of your first love. To me that is perfectly spot on. Also, "Take these rings and stow them safe away, I'll wear them on another rainy day" I don't think isnecessarily about rebelling against commitment. Maybe I'm taking it too literally but it makes me think of something her first love gave her, and when she's alone on a rainy day (when there's nothing to do) she puts them on and remembers what it was like with him... |
Good Charlotte – Victims of Love Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I can't wait for this song. Every now and then they just say something in such simple terms so perfectly... "Everybody's been hurt by somebody before You can change but you will always come back for more" So true. |
Good Charlotte – The River Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think they did a good job. The last line is so strong... I confess I'm a sinner, I've seen a vision of my life and I wanna be delivered...nice. |
Good Charlotte – March On Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This sounds like its about how they made it to where they are today, by marching on and having this attitude of working hard etc....from Waldorf/Naptown to LA, etc... |

Good Charlotte – Misery Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I agree with teenagetrash...I'm glad someone else can still miss the old times but love them a lot. Inexplicably, for some reason. |
Good Charlotte – All Black Lyrics | 17 years ago |
"I go to a funeral if I'm invited any day of the week" That line is so Harold and Maude to me haha...I am imagining them just like, hanging out at funerals. I'm curious to hear what this song is like. And other than outright referencing the song "Paint It Black" the line "I used to see red, but now just all black" seems like another reference to the song..interestingggg |
Good Charlotte – Keep Your Hands Off My Girl Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Haha I totally feel like this is about Misshapes or some other club full of hipsters that Joel and Benji might have been to... Alright. Their first record holds a really sentimental spot in my heart. It came out at just the right time in my life for it to really mean something to me. But they were teenagers when they made it! I can't stand when people accuse them of selling out or saying it sucks that they sound different, of course they sound different they've done a lot of growing up since that first album. People are allowed to do that. I give them credit for trying new things and always trying out a different sound. I think this song is a lot of fun. Just take it for what it is, a fun song. They're never gonna sound like their first album again. It was a totally different time and place. |
Regina Spektor – Open Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I feel such a sense of...yearning. From this song. I wish this would be put on a CD. |
Jenny Lewis – Rabbit Fur Coat Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i love this song....i can't exactly put it into words but either way, its beautiful. well dooone jenny lewis, well done. |
Rufus Wainwright – The One You Love Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think unsweetened has a good interpretation...heres miiine: I agree completely with unsweetened about the first verse obviously showing that these people have a distance between them. And I think that "But no words ever could sell you Sell you on me after all that I have done" Implies that Rufus has done the cheating or treating the other person badly. And the other person was upset at him for it, and supposedly forgave him but has still been acting distant. No matter how much he tries to apologize and make up for it. So in his frustration he sarcastically states, "I'm only the one you love." I think that "The Lady Gloom and her hornets circling round Is now before us, the screaming's done without moving One little move and for sure you will be stung" Simply means that no matter what they try to do or say they are always gloomy or upset together. And always hurling little barbs back and forth at one another. Then, going from the sarcastic "I'm only the one you love" He switches it to the sort of insecure or unsure, "Am I only the one you love?" "We've traded in our snap shots We're going through the motions Into the view, I'm leaving you Down Conduit Avenue into the early morning Into the early morning The one I love Are you only the one I love?" To me, "we've traded in our snapshots" implies that they've traded in their old snapshots for snapshots of them with someone new, but even though they're both moving on Rufus still cares deeply for this person. |
Margot & the Nuclear So and So's – A Sea Chanty of Sorts Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I randomly read about MATNS&S (haha um just trying out an abbreviation, my friend prefers "Margot and the Nukes") over the summer and I'm so happy I did...this was my first song by them. The first and last stanzas make me think of two people who care a lot for one another, but one of them isn't ready to make a commitment or doesn't want to. But it's really hard on the other person. |
Margot & the Nuclear So and So's – Waking Up and Walking Out Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I'm curious who Jolene is, being that they have the other song titled "Jolene, We Almost Never Met" The lyrics to this song are so simple and straightforward, but that's why I like them. The similies are simple...shaking life a leaf in that cool autum breeze...but they get the job done. I love this band. |
Margot & the Nuclear So and So's – Bookworm Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I love listening to this song...I really like your interpretation of it tjhardrocker. I never would have drawn so many details from it (especially the part about the F train, but maybe that's only because I never have to take it) Either way, beautiful song. I feel like there is a lot of yearning in it. |
Marcy Playground – Love Bug Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i used to call my ex-boyfriend lovebug... this is a cute song. i always thought of lovebug as just a cutesy semi-obnoxious pet name but i like that they made it like an actual bug hehe |
Coyote Shivers – Sugar High (Soundtrack Version) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I love the acoustic version of this song you can get on iTunes! Clearly the song is about sex, and the person likes having sex with whoever they are describing, but I feel like there's something more. I love the second verse...it just sounds like two people who are really good friends and are comfortable with just hanging out around the house with each other. It's lovelyyy. But it sounds like he's confused about his feelings for her...why does he feel so funny deep inside when she kisses him goodbye and when he licks between her thighs? |
Margot & the Nuclear So and So's – Open Your Eyes Lyrics | 17 years ago |
these lyrics are beautiful |
Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Let Me Know Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I got this song on the free 45 they gave out with the album at some record stores....and I finally got a record player...and this song is so charming! Love love love. |
Something Corporate – Globes & Maps Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This song has a weird way of reminding me of my ex-boyfriend, because there was a wall in his bedroom that was basically wallpapered in pages from an old atlas...so whenever I was in his room there really were globes and maps around haha. Aside from that it is a really beautiful song. |
Le Tigre – Eau d'Bedroom Dancing Lyrics | 17 years ago |
what the hell, people are reading wayyyyy too in to this!! its just about having a good time dancing by yourself in your room. ahahah. it's not always necessary to read into EVERYTHING all the time. as a side note "more, more, and more" always made me think of "rebel yell" by billy idol. :P |
Imogen Heap – Hallelujah (Leonard Cohen cover) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Leonard Cohen, Jeff Buckley, Rufus Wainwright, hell I've even heard a Regina Spektor cover...Imogen's is pretty good, but Rufus's is still my very favorite. It actually makes me cry, which is something none of the other ones were ever able to do! |
Imogen Heap – Missing You Lyrics | 17 years ago |
this song made me speechless the first time i heard it...because i was basically going through exactly what she's talking about |

Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Mysteries Lyrics | 17 years ago |
At first I was having lukewarm feelings about Show Your Bones, but I took them all back once I heard this song. Such energy! And perfectly self-explanitory and wonderful and all of that. The best part for me is "I don't know who I like less- you or me, you or me" |
Cake – I Will Survive (Gloria Gaynor cover) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
by far one of the best covers i've ever heard. my DAD loves this song haha. he always makes me play it when i have my iPod in his car. |
The Magnetic Fields – The One You Really Love Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I loooove this song. The first time I heard it the rhythm immediately reminded me of a Johnny Cash song...so did the opening lyrics. This is a great song. I found it on a CD of love songs that my ex-boyfriend made after we broke up once, and he drove home all night to it...good grief. Anyway, it's still a good song. |
Regina Spektor – All the Rowboats Lyrics | 17 years ago |
haha that's my favorite part of the recording, when she pauses and says, "...I do not agree." very matter-of-factly. |
