Brad Paisley – Whiskey Lullaby Lyrics 18 years ago
Women like the one in this video give me a small glimpse of the modivation behind domestic assault. The husband goes off to defend his country, gives his wife his word that he will be faithful, ends up being true to his word, and comes home to find his wife in bed with another man after she had given him her word that she would also be faithful. I'm not an advocate of domestic violence, but I'm pretty sure that that woman had an arse kicking coming that he loved her too much to give. That's what gets me. He loved her so much that he chose to take his own life out of anger instead of taking hers.

Buffalo Springfield – For What It's Worth Lyrics 18 years ago
As with any good song, it best fits in it's own era but can still be applied in other times. For What it's Worth is a good reflection of the time it was written in but it could just as easily been written today, as we once again face the consequences of thrusting ourself into a war that could arguably be considered too great a cost even if we do win, very much so in the same fashion as Vietnam. One of the best lines in the whole song, I think, is "young people speakin' their minds, gettin' so much resistance from behind". I like that line in particular because of the sheer truth behind it; just like it was back in the Vietnam era, the supporters of this war, including our beloved president, are trying to silence protesters not necessarily becasue they're wrong, but because they have a different viewpoint than those who have greater power and authority.

Charlie Daniels Band – In America Lyrics 18 years ago
VERY good song. It is once again relevant since we are again at war.

I love the part where it says "we may have done a little bit of fighting amongst ourself but you outside people best leave us alone". It is an accurate portrait of the loyalty of the citizens of this country. We may (and often do) have our differences among us, but we readily put them aside when we're under attack by a foreign nation, because it's our country, no matter how little we ordinarliy value our fellow citizens.

The Rolling Stones – Paint It Black Lyrics 18 years ago
Just because someone WANTS it to be about the Vietnam War, that doesn't mean that it isn't. Just like wanting it NOT to be about the Vietnam War DOES NOT mean that it isn't If you can't even think outside your own mentality. I mean honestly, how many of you have actually sat down with one of the Rolling Stones and had a discussion about it? All you really know is what you read in a magazine or watch on TV, and neither of those sources are exclusively legitimate. Furthermore, who's to say that it wasn't meant to be about more than one thing? They may very well have been going for the general emotion, and they may have wanted to reach a larger audience, and as such it may have been inteded to be a song about madness and depression coming from ANY source.

My favorite part is at the end

"Those of you who will not sing must be playing with your own ding-a-ling

The best part of it is that it is based on a real event. Christmas Eve, War of 1812 if I remember correctly.

Eminem – Sing For The Moment Lyrics 19 years ago
here is the story behind "Guerrerra" (taken from mugshots.net". If you read through, it also tells the real story behind the skit track that plays right before "Soldier".

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Eminem was charged with carrying a concealed weapon following a June 4 confrontation outside a Warren nightclub. Police say Eminem struck a man - club bouncer John Guerrera - he says he saw kissing his estranged wife, Kim. Alledgedly, the victim was pistol-whipped, but Eminem has always denied this, claiming he only threatened him with the gun but hit him with his fist.

Brad Paisley – Whiskey Lullaby Lyrics 19 years ago
Amazing song. I can't think of any other words than that. What a f***ing slut, though. When the man in the song came back from his travels in the military, not only did he still have strong feelings for his lover, but then he comes home on the military bus to find her in bed with another man in his own house. That type of self-indulgence sickens me to my very core. I mean he saw his fellow soldiers being shot and killed, and even that didn't hurt as much as when he found out that she was cheating on him. It makes me very angry just to think that there are women out there that would cheat on a man with that kind of devotion.

it's not nack; it's mack.

"never wears a mack in the pouring rain"

mack is brittish slang for rain coat.

The Beatles – Eleanor Rigby Lyrics 19 years ago
To answer about "wiping the dirt from his hands", it sounds like it's in reference to the similar idiom of "I wash my hands of this", which would likely mean that Father McKinzie (sp?) was relieving himself of all guilt and/or responsability for Elanor's drug abuse because obviously at that point there was nothing more he could do since she was dead.

The Beatles – Eleanor Rigby Lyrics 19 years ago
Until my mom brought this up I never really thought about it but "wearing a face that she keeps in a jar by the door" is very likely a refrence to the use of drugs to correct or hide emotional stress in an attempt to gain social acceptance.

Nickelback – Never Again Lyrics 19 years ago
"Father's a name you haven't earned yet
You're just a child with a temper
Haven't you heard 'Don't hit a lady'"?
Kickin' your ass would be a pleasure "

This part of the song makes it sound like the man the singer is talking about might be his stepdad ( Father's a name you haven't earned yet) , or his real father which would imply that his dad was abusive every since he can remember and as a result he refuses to acknowledge him as his father.

DC Talk – What Have We Become? Lyrics 19 years ago
"Mom and Dad are fightin'
As Rosie lies there crying
For once again she's overheard
Regrets of their mistake
With Christmas bells a-ringing
Little Rosie'd leave them grieving The gift she'd give her family
Would be the pills she'd take"

This is a very, very deep song, especially the part below that talks about a girl who became so depressed after hearing her parents say that, as far as they were concerned, she was an "inconvenient child" who "wasn't worth their while" that she overdosed on pills and killed herself. It makes me sad to think that any parents would have that attitude about their children, let alone to think that their child would take his or her own life because their parents are overly selfish.

Garth Brooks – Your Song Lyrics 19 years ago
I think that it's possible that it could be more than one person but what I got out of the song was that he's talking either about his wife, his mother or some other single individual in his life.

Evanescence – Bring Me To Life Lyrics 19 years ago
I think cut_and_bleeding said it best so far: "If you don't like Evanesnce then what the hell are you doing here?".

Pretty much anyone who has been through or is in a deep depression/ suicidal stage knows exactly what makes this song so great. It's about wanting to be free from the perverbial "ball and chain" that is depression, especially deep depression, but meanwhile having a unbearable feeling of being trapped and not really knowing what to do to fix it. Of course, many of those who have not felt deep depression or helplessness can never really, fully understand the extent, which I am guessing is the reason they accuse others of who are going through the same things that this song talks about of being melodramatic

Eminem – Sing For The Moment Lyrics 19 years ago
Well there you go wisearse you just answered your own question; "except for his crazy wife." Besides, I would imagine there are certain people he would like to take on himself. Or not. I don't know. Either way, I maintain that the point he was making in that part of the song is that he's getting alot of bs from suburban holier-than-thou parents "whose worst fear is a child with died hair and who wears earrings". If the parents would actually explain to their kids why not to listen to this or that kind of music instead of using up all their energy nagging and finger-wagging they might actually have a chance. And that is what the song is about; Em's childhood as he growing up with authoritarian self-righteous bastards for parents and that he now wants to send a wake-up call to overbearing parents to tell them that if they force their ideas and beliefs on their kids too much that rebellion is inevetible

Metallica – Of Wolf And Man Lyrics 19 years ago
I can't think of anything to add; it looks like all the major points of the song have been covered. What I can add, though, that it literally says "seek the wolf in thyself". Short of beastilaity, I don't see any evidence for the meaning to be anything other than reverting to animal instincts.

Gilbert O'Sullivan – Alone Again (naturally) Lyrics 19 years ago
catherine hit the nail square on the head about being depressed but still managing to act happy. sometimes it's because our shame makes us want to avoid, and try to deny, the fact that problems exist in our lives and so we build a superficial shell around ourselves for our own sake, and other times the wall of superficiality is built for the benefit of others, for fear of the consequences of letting our true selves show. In either case, it is my gut feeling that hiding behind walls of superficiality leads to even deeper inner turmoil that leads some, as the person in this song, to beleieve that even God Himself has deserted them.

Eminem – 8 Mile Lyrics 19 years ago
tool, you ignorant, anal-retentive moron, self-expression is (supposed to be) what music is all about, whether it is straight forward, sarcastic whatever.. And on top of that, how is his so-called bitching and bitching isn't by any stretch of the imagination any worse than your bitching about how he's doing this or that wrong when, unless I'm mistaken, you haven't been in his position or even remotely close. You dislike Eminem because he is different than your closed-minded version of what rap is or what you think it's supposed to be. If and when you make it far enough up the ladder to know what it's like (and I mean by talent, not by having anal sex with a producer) THEN, and ONLY then will you have the right to say he's not good enough. Until then, see if you can manage to pop your head out of your rectum long enough to remove your bias and form a well thought out opinion. You might want to call 9-1-1 first though becuase IF you ever do have the inclination to remove your head from your rectum, there is a very real possiblity that you will need the Jaws of Life to do so.

P.S. Don't drop the soap.

Don McLean – Vincent (Starry Starry Night) Lyrics 19 years ago
Part of the section that Olex was talking about gets to me too, and I do know why; as far as I can tell it is a reference to Jesus' crucifiction:

"The ragged men in ragged clothes
The silver thorn, a bloody rose
Lie crushed and broken on the virgin snow"

If I have this right, then the silver thorn and bloody rose part is referring to the crown of thorns that Jesus wore. If I don't...well then....I don't.

D12 – My Band Lyrics 19 years ago
Someone earlier in the thread asked what this song means, and since noone has bothered to answer, I will take that task on myself. As far as I can tell, Eminem and the band are talking about how girls flock to guys in bands just because they're famous, and then once they lose their fame and money they don't want to have a damn thing to do with them. That's the same reason I like When The Music Stops.

Travis Tritt – If I Lost You Lyrics 19 years ago
I absolutely positively LOVE this song. Especially "I have learned about losing I could lose most anything", because I have also had to deal with loss due to death and other kinds of loss, but like Travis says in this song, I also do not know what I would do if I lost her.

Dan Fogelberg – Leader of the Band Lyrics 19 years ago
The part of this song that strikes me the most is one of the last parts of the song, "and papa I don't think I said I love you near enough". It strikes a definate cord with me personally because I know from personal experience what it is like being close to a family member and all of the sudden getting the news that they have passed on. I picked that line from the song specifically becuase it speaks to anyone who has had a lfamily or loved one die and retrospectively feel that they have come short, even if it is only a perception, of showing the true extent of the love and affection that they had for the person.

n3, I would love to hear you explain exactly how much less retarded YOU are for responding to the posts of people who you are apparently superior to. If you are so much better than us fans of Eminem, why do you even bother to post in the same thread as we do? I think that perhaps if you disenlodge your cranium from your anus that you will find that we as a whole are no less intellegent than anyone else, but rather that we have a different perspective on life than you do.

Johnny Cash – Hurt (Nine Inch Nails cover) Lyrics 19 years ago
I absolutely love this song. Not only because he is pouring his soul out about the hardships that he has encountered throughout his life, but because he's talking about the same kind of feelings and life experiences that so many of the rest of us can relate to. Very few songs have portrayed a person being in their own personal hell as well as this song did. Furthermore, I would highly reccomend watching the music video, as it adds a strong accent of heartfelt emotion to the passionate revelations of his life in this song.
