im pretty sure the song's about how he HAD the girl that every other guy's had, but he thinks she's overrated even though he still wants her. The "dime a dozen" thing relates to how he's the same guy she's gone out with a million times, so she knows that what he wants isn't really her, but her body hence the "wishful thinker-worst intentions" line.
The "if only you knew half as much as you pretend to" line is him saying she's really in denial about who he is, and that she doesn't want to set herself up.
