When my mother was dying of cancer, I couldn't listen to this song. It made me think of what my dad was going through - living through his memories of her. Even now I find it hard to listen to it. |

Presumably the song is about mind reading, as per the guy in the David Byrne movie True Stories who read minds - this is the song he sings, and DB wrote it for the movie. |

I heard an interview with the band when Little Creatures was being released. David Byrne was surprised the Road to Nowhere was proving so popular, and would thus become a single, as it was downbeat and about the road to oblivion. |
