Iron & Wine – Woman King Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This has such a southern vibe to it. Makes me think of Sojourner Truth. |
Iron & Wine – Evening on the Ground (Lilith's Song) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I feel this song is more about Eve than Lillith– Eve is blamed for Man's Fall. Eve and Adam were created to fuck each other- not sex, not love. Dirty, disgusting, shameful intercourse that lost us paradise. The Cardinal Sin, for which woman has been held accountable ever since. "Broken lock" is a direct reference to our loss of the garden of eden. Lilith isn't held repsonsible for breaking the lock; Eve is. |

Iron & Wine – Freedom Hangs Like Heaven Lyrics | 17 years ago |
The song's obviously about the coming Son of God. In the bible, Jesus is to come back and cast the Devil into a lake of fire, and Christ's sacrifice on the cross is the "freedom [that] hangs like heaven over everyone." You know, since Jesus died for our sins, we're granted the kingdom of heaven. |
Andrew Bird – Banking on a Myth Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Myths to the bank makes me think of cashing in on religion. |
Andrew Bird – Lull Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think the last stanza's rather funny, as it's a play on Carly Simon's "You're so Vain," which could have been about Mick Jagger, Cat Stevens, Warren Beatty or Kris Kristofferson. NIN later put the lines, "You're so vain, you probably think this song is about you You're so vain, I'll bet you think this song is about you Don't you? Don't you?" into Starfuckers, Inc. See the word play? He wrote a song about himself. It's definitely about jerkin it. |
Modest Mouse – Grey Ice Water Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I'm from Alaska, going to school in the South. I absolutely love this song. I used to listen to it back home, but never paid attention to the words until I was 4,000 miles away. Funny how his singing about esape makes me think of going home. |
Modest Mouse – Grey Ice Water Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Weezer definitely nailed it about the grey ice water imagery. A lot of water in Alaska is indeed grey melted ice. Glacial rivers have a certain melancholy to them. |

The Decemberists – Sixteen Military Wives Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This song is clearly about the Iraq war, the Elite's repsonse to it, the media's coverage and the American public's reaction. Fairly topical commentary, really. |
Radiohead – 2 + 2 = 5 (The Lukewarm) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
The part at the end where he starts really shoutin and stuff sounds A LOT like Pearl Jam's "Do the Evolution." |

Radiohead – A Wolf at the Door (It Girl. Rag Doll) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I love his rap at the beginning. Absolutely amazing, it just tears me apart. I like how many meanings there are to this song, too. |
Elliott Smith – Baby Britain Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This song is about self-destruction and liking it. "when you're saying goodbye like you wanna say hi" |
Elliott Smith – Baby Britain Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Does no one realize that they're playing russian roulette over vodka shots? |
Ambulance LTD – Primitive (The Way I Treat You) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This song totally reminds me of this girl I used to mess around with. I first heard it while we were making out on the floor. It was probably one of the top ten things of ever. Top 20, at least. The third stanza is so very political. I almost want to say the whole song is about electioneering in the USA, but that's just be to deny that it's obviously about messed up romantic relationships. I think the first stanza is not about a girl, but about your parents. Sick without you, could it mean homesick? The second stanza seems political. Everything after the (yeah) verse definitely is about a girl. |
R.E.M. – New Test Leper Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This seems to address TV evangelism, and the hypocrisy of the Evangicals intolerance, like avucular says. Excellent song. Possibly my favorite. |
R.E.M. – Binky The Doormat Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I like the part about "sour milk mouth." |
R.E.M. – Bad Day Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Massu said it. Bad Day is a metaphor you guys, not to be literally interpreted as a bad day. |
Ben Folds – Rockin' The Suburbs Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Remember when that faux-punk band decided to rock the suburbs with Smooth Criminal? They were rockin on top of car and stuff on a car, well that song's a cover of Michael Jackson, and if I have my history correct, the totally ripped off Jackson's video, too. |
The Blood Brothers – Junkyard J vs. the Skin Army Girlz/High Fives, LA Hives Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Is it about a porno? |
The Unicorns – Tuff Luff Lyrics | 19 years ago |
It seems to me like a protest against the American administration. You know, all the stuff about oil and nukes and penance. |
The Unicorns – The Clap Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Sex. |

The Blood Brothers – Peacock Skeleton with Crooked Feathers Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This song is about Christianity and the Religious Right of Amerika. "Which peacock is beast? Which peacock is priest? If the heavens part and nobody, nowhere, nothing, every apartment is vacant, every home for rent?" Heaven's empty. Everyone's in hell "If machine guns come knock, knock, knocking Who's cashing out your bad luck?" War for profit "If tuxedos slither off corpses and copulate wild on wedding cake and the priest starts snapping photos?" Men wear tuxedos, then the tuxedos fuck at a wedding (on the cake no less), while the priest photographs. Seems like a reference to homosexual marrieage and pedohpiliac clergy to me. "Book of Revelation" The book is about the the apocolypse and all the signs of the End of Days. "Who do you kill when your senator drags out your first born?" This seems to me like senators sending kids off to war while theirs stay home and dont get shot. "If you strike for better wages at the cola factory and they drink champagne as they kick in your teeth?" Third-world workers want better living conditions in Amerikan companies, while the rich put them down. "I just wanna know what his blood tasted like. Was it like sugar or vinegar or whiskey or dirt?" That's about Christ and the part where Christians drink his blood and eat his flesh. It's a sort of an ironic question, reminding His followers that they aren't being very good Chrisitans. They're killing the first borns (God once killed a bunch of first borns in the Old Testament), they're making money at the expense of others, and hypocritically denouncing homosexual marriage. |
Collective Soul – Collection Of Goods Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Amen. |
Pixies – Levitate Me Lyrics | 19 years ago |
"Come on Pilgrim You know he loves you" This bit of the song says more to me than anything. Like addressing the serious mopey protestants to buckt he fuck up. Actually, I think drippy's got this one, about the Shakers, and stuff. Come on Pilgrim, You know he loves you. If that's not a pseudo-intellectual's way of saying have hope, I don't know what is. |
Pixies – The Sad Punk Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This song declares that punk is dead. Black is definitely addressing the idiocy of the punk scene, and decalring it dead dead dead (what do you think extinction's reffering to? Dinosaurs?) Just listen to the outrageously heavy ska rhythm, even the music mocks punk. |
Franz Ferdinand – The Dark of the Matinee Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This song characterized a relationship with this girl I had. I'd tell her about all the people I hated, and we'd skip school and make out in the matinee. |
