Guided by Voices – Cut-Out Witch Lyrics

Amen, maeraj. Maybe the "witch" refers to casting a spell on you, and making everything all better. I've sometimes thought this way, but really sometimes it's better to just be alone. |

Guided by Voices – Big Boring Wedding Lyrics
| 17 years ago

This sounds to me like a song about a divorce. "It's hard to imagine you want to leave," duh. "The chicks are back" maybe means he's a bachelor again? Any hardcore GbV fans know if our friend Bob Pollard went through one around this time? |

Guided by Voices – The Closets Of Henry Lyrics

Holy crap!! How has noone commented on this one? I love this song. It's regal and dramatic. I'm guessing it has something to British and/or French kings. Any historians care to elaborate? |

Sleater-Kinney – A Real Man Lyrics

Good point snoop. Corin was 10 years older and more mature when she wrote "Let's Call it Love." Back when she wrote this, she was a real riot girl, which carries with it fierce feminism. In the time of The Woods, she was married with a young child. Her views of sex with men no doubt changed in those ten years.
By the way, side question: Is it fair to assume because she sung it primarily, she wrote it also? I don't really know how it worked in S-K, though I've heard Corin and Carrie both wrote songs. |

...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead – Source Tags And Codes Lyrics
| 17 years ago
|
This song definitely conjours up a scene. I picture boy and girl sitting in a car overlooking the city where they both grew up. They were in love once, but decided to separate and lead their own lives.
He has already established a job and life in another place, but he doesn't seem altogether happy with it. She has stayed behind, and now she is bored with her hometown. He visits his hometown, and they fall back in love. Now each is questioning how to proceed. |

Sleater-Kinney – Words And Guitar Lyrics

I'm with ya, amber. This is a pretty common theme in their music, the contrast between the music they play and their gender (i.e. Ballad of a Ladyman). Corin's voice is at it's best in this one. Really wish I'd gotten to see them live... |

Sleater-Kinney – One More Hour Lyrics

I read that this was the last song they played in concert, in Portland a couple weeks ago. That seems to back up the claim that it's a break-up song between the girls. The queens of indie ROCK will be sorely missed.... |

The line about the Milk Way is great. This song is really ethereal. It almost sounds like it's being sung in outer space. |

Sleater-Kinney – One Beat Lyrics

I love the line "now all that's on the surface / are bloody arms and oil fields." A clear reference to wars being fought over oil. Something a certain presidential family loves to do.... |

Stars – The First Five Times Lyrics

I think the "driven outside/ and driven in" part is the relationship game. Relationships go through that period where they drive each other away, and then draw each other back in. |

Sleater-Kinney – The Fox Lyrics

A love affair between a duck and a fox? Don't foxes usually eat ducks? Of course it's metaphor. I wonder who's the fox and who's the duck....Anyone have any insight? |

Yo La Tengo – Deeper Into Movies Lyrics

I like the insomnia idea, but I extend it to insanity. The singer seems to be going crazy from not sleeping. I wonder if this is a reference to a movie, hence the name of the song? |

Belle & Sebastian – Legal Man Lyrics

How can I be the first to comment? This song is ingenious. A relationship is a contract of sorts I guess. I love the beat and how they both sing along with the sitar. |

Belle & Sebastian – Belle and Sebastian Lyrics

Anyone have any idea if this song is autobiographical. Is "Belle" Isobel Campbell and is "Sebastian" Stuart Murdoch? The insert for "Tigermilk" and this song seem to be pretty much a biography of these two people. |

This song is so bouncy and catchy. I can't believe how incredibly sad the lyrics are. It doesn't fit. That's what makes it awesome. |

Arcade Fire – Rebellion (Lies) Lyrics

It's funny. I thought this was definitely about sleep when I first heard it. Now I've seen all these interpretations about sex, lies, etc, and they all make sense. That's what makes this band great. |

I can't believe I'm the first to comment about this. "Six Feet Under" picked the perfect song to finish out the series. I watched the final scene five times back to back when I first saw it. It sent shivers down my spine. For those of you that haven't watched the show, do yourself a favor and watch the best show ever in the history of television. |

This song is featured in one of my favorite moments in Six Feet Under. Season 4, Claire and her art friends take some weird form of X and play this. It doesn't get any better than DCFC and SFU together in the same place. |

I love this song. Yet another Pixies reference to incest: "I can't believe she's so pretty / i'm a son of a bitch at my school." Selling drugs at school, sex with nuns. Awesome. |

How can I be the first to comment on this song? This is one of my top 10 favorite songs of all time. I definitely see an English royaly thing going on here. Not just in the lyrics, but the music too, especially the drumming. I wonder if the child is Prince Charles and the mother is the Queen.... |

I definitely thought of child molestation when I thought about this song. "Creator" through might indicate that it's his father. I like that comment by yall. It makes sense, especially this song came out at the end of the power ballad era (1992). |

Muse – Stockholm Syndrome Lyrics
|
I see some signs that this song might be about an abusive relationship. He is comparing a relationship to Stockholm Syndrome, where the parties become so attached, that it's impossible to leave. They just keep on fighting with each other and walking out on each other, but keep coming back: "This is the last time I'll abandon you." I dunno, what do other people think? |
