Minutemen – This Ain’t No Picnic Lyrics 19 years ago
I wouldn't go so far as to say "this song is about racism". Of course, it comments on it twice - "I should go pitch a tent but our land isn't free" and "I refuse to be a slave" both show up in the last verse. More so this song is about the American "machine", as he puts it, and how it isn't much of a picnic anymore - for anyone.

Modest Mouse – Beach Side Property Lyrics 19 years ago
The lyrics, not to interrupt all this delightful bickering, are posted wrong. In the album cut of this song, Isaac says "I got poor eyes and sore eyes and no eyes at all". Posted above (at the date of this post, obviously) it reads "I got sore eyes and poor eyes and no eyes at all". WRONG!!!!!!!!!!

Hehe.

Spoon – Sister Jack Lyrics 19 years ago
This is a good Spoon song, not musically daring, but enigmatic and puzzling. The full-blown guitar work and upbeat tempo are effective here, but it's on the alternate, piano-harmony version (on the Bonus Disk) that this song really takes shape. Good Spoon.

Gang of Four – I Found That Essence Rare Lyrics 19 years ago
Man, I'd kill to see this live. It's just one of those songs. Everything about this song fits; it's the perfect Gang of Four song (thought not my favorite). Still, how can you not sing along?

Grandaddy – Everything Beautiful Is Far Away Lyrics 19 years ago
Definately one of the best on their solid Under the Western Freeway. There's something so normal about this song that I absolutely love. The opening line, "He just finished eating dinner", is a perfect statement to open up a song about a man stuck by himself on a distant planet. The fact that the song is so relatable while being somewhat sarcastic is just great writing, period.

Damn. I don't think I've heard a better post-pop-punk song in my entire lifetime. This song is perfection.

Arcade Fire – No Cars Go Lyrics 19 years ago
"Between the click of the light and the start of the dream"

It's the dark, blank space that he gets to exist in before he's taken away by his dreams. I always figured the part of the end was a nightmare he had or something similar.

The Fiery Furnaces – Chief Inspector Blancheflower Lyrics 19 years ago
"I had a dexadrine hyperactivity selective
Attend to relevant
Information tempo taken in told to
Mechanism coping concept
Put my head down crumple my paper."

Definately one of the best sections of the album. It ties the entire beginning together. Brilliant.

The Fiery Furnaces – Quay Cur Lyrics 19 years ago
What language do they start using words from at the end, or are they making it up? I can't tell, and if someone knows it'd be really cool if you told me so I didn't have to look it up.

Secret Machines – Nowhere Again Lyrics 19 years ago
Pretty much all of the songs on this album are about loneliness, and this one is no exception. The first like, "cellophane flowers never happened for me", is a refrence (most likely) to the hippie drug culture. Obviously, the liberation the Secret Machines were looking for when they turned to drugs and sex never happened. This song is them finally realizing that. But of course that sounds pretentious, it's just a good rock song.

The Futureheads – Danger Of The Water Lyrics 19 years ago
This is one of the best songs on their CD. It cuts the album in half, stopping it for an interlude, and provides one of the most gentle statements on the band's outlook on love and life. It's only right that Carnival Kids (the best of the CD) follows right after, providing a one-two punch of the best the band can offer.
