every effing song ever written, someone has to point it towards a couple. get over your god damn ex and move on. there's more to life than relationships. accept the song for what it is: short and sweet eucil: "I don't really see why mentioning the word "heart" has to indicate love." i second that. when your girlfriend stabs your heart with a sharp object, you die. when your girlfriend breaks up with you, it effects your emotons; you live. stfu already. listen to some fall out boy if you want that shit. gun left behind: "One of Death Cab's best, for sure." at least 80% of death cab's songs could be considered 'best', because they're all written and strung together so perfectly. applaud ben gibbard, and listen to some of the other 100+ songs he's written and sang. you'll see that there is no best, because most of them make you feel so good. also, "This song is probably about love, since he talks about his heart" SERIOUSLY. wow. um. let's see. my heart. it's HUMONGOUS. woah, it must mean i'm in love. it's filled with love. seriously. wow. just wow. toadtws: " This song is about a relationship that's falling apart. i disagree with anyone saying this song is based on a relationship. it's about growing up. (this was my own opinon before i read any of the comments) whose parents don't sleep on opposite sides of the bed? parents are old; they had you. people grow up fast, and they don't realize it until they already lost their youth. when they grow up, they're totally different people than when they were younger. if a 50+ year old man were to stand beside a mirror image of himself as a child, they would be barely discernable to one another. can this song really be about anything other than aging? maybe. ask mr. walla. maybe ben gibbard knows? i haven't really said anything that hasn't been said already. kudos to shelovesbrandnew: best interpretation. |

I haven't read all the comments, but the ones I have are all saying it's about a break up. Come on. This can relate to friends easier than a "break up". "when the time we have now ends. when the big hand goes round again. can you still feel the butterflies? can you still hear the last goodnight?" "If I don't let myself be happy now then when? If not now when? " It sounds more like friendship falling apart because they're going on with life, they have lives.. that go separate directions and they lose all the time they used to have for each other. Just because your girlfriend dumped you, don't go making every song you hear about a relationship. |
