The Who – Too Much of Anything Lyrics

I love this song and I never really considered this but yeah, I think Pete could have made this even better if he had the lead vocal. Roger's delivery is always quite dramatic while Pete's, maybe by sheer necessity, is more understated and intimate. That probably would have worked even better on this one. |

Tegan and Sara – Back in Your Head Lyrics

this song brings back memories of a lot of girls from my past...quirky complicated types. basically, once I really got to know them their quirks weren't cute anymore but rather quite difficult to manage. |

The New Pornographers – My Rights Versus Yours Lyrics

Here's some info about this lovely new tune that I found on the "Buy Early Get Now" page.
A.C. says:
"This is a stream of consciousness story-of-my-life type of song. 1st appearance of french horn on a New Ps album, and only 30 seconds into the album! Ends with a nod to Jeff Lynne with the vocoded vocals." |

Stellastarr* – Lost in Time Lyrics

It's definitiely "unstop the day" at the beginning...it seems this is yet another tragically mismanaged band that coulda been somethin'. great album and wow Marcus, after reading your comment I feel this song in a completely different way. |

Buddy Holly – Rave On Lyrics

aww man...this song almost makes me cry I love it so much. It just oozes of the good feeling post-war spirit of the 50's...makes me feel nostalgia for an era my parents barely remember. |

The Smashing Pumpkins – Untitled Lyrics

I think this song is f'n great, of course...it's always kinda seemed like it is the way it is as a way for Billy to show everyone that he always could have kept creating music like the early Pumpkins stuff but chose not to do so simply by his own volition. |

The Hold Steady – Party Pit Lyrics
|
I thought this song was about a party pit like in a casino until I read somewhere that it's about a party in a rock quarry or something in Minnesota. So I guess that's their version of my adolescent nights growing up in New Jersey partying in the woods...yeah...I get it... |

if you like this song you really ought to buy Declare A New State...the album it's on. The album as a whole is every bit as amazing as this individual song. How this album isn't somewhere on every single best of '06 list is a complete mystery to me. |

I just home from a mind numbing night of post-grunge cover band BS and this was the first song I queued up...exactly what I needed to lift my spirits after 3 hours of crap. It's twee time baby! |

Just now I was laying in bed, listening to my air conditioner hum as I had set it to the low setting, and this song came to mind. it gives me chills just thinking about it. |

I couldn't agree more Marcus. fuck pitchfork. this is good stuff. my friend's usually think I listen to weird shit...when they want a sample of what I listen to this album is atop my list of recommendations. I have received only positive feedback from the most critical of audiences. Seriously, how can you not like this tune? |

Jens Lekman – Black Cab Lyrics

This ALBUM grew on partially because I loved this song so much the album stayed in rotation. I do feel like the lo-fi feel to it could have been cleaned up a bit though, but it does add a certain amount of charm.
I have a friend that I think about every time I hear it. Especially during the verse "I killed the party again..." because that's what he does every time he comes out with me. |

I just read that J wrote this song as he waited 3 weeks for a second HIV test after having tested positive the first time (it turned out negative).
He says this about the song in an interview: "I wasn't sure where it came from-- it sounded like a children's song." |

Stellastarr* – Love And Longing Lyrics

I can't get enough of this one. The only thing that could make it better is if Amanda's vocals weren't so buried on the chorus. Critics rag on these guys for sounding too much like their influences or contemporaries...whatever...it's just good fun music. |

Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Y Control Lyrics

agreed. I didn't normally give a band with a female lead singer a chance before I heard the YYY's. Karen O totally changed my perspective...now probably more than half of the stuff I absolutely adore has a female vocalist. |

The New Pornographers – Use It Lyrics

wow...dig the harmonies on the chorus
gotta say I was really surprised by the sound of this song the first time I heard it. they were smart to release Twin Cinema as the first song off the third album since it sounded the most like what we expected from them.
the first few times I listened to this song I didn't really know how I felt about it...now I'm certain I love it. I don't care what it means, it makes me want to get up and violently thrash my head about...that's more than enough for me. |

I'm a guy and I'm absolutely in love with Kathleen Hanna. Even though I'm not a female I can totally relate to the feeling of being scrutinized while I'm out doing my thing.
When I'm home rockin out I don't have to even for a moment consider what anyone else thinks of me...I just enjoy the music and dance along with it without worrying about how weird or crazy I look. |

The New Pornographers – Letter from an Occupant Lyrics
| 18 years ago
|
From another Carl Newman interview, this one on pitchfork.com:
"I think that I was guilty [of writing obtuse lyrics] on some songs like 'Letter From an Occupant'-- that song's mostly gibberish."
He goes continues saying there is some idea behind it and that it's basically just an obscure break-up song.
He also mentions, like he says int he Prindle review, that he often uses words because he likes the way they sound. He says that he writes the lyrics after the music is finished. He says: "There will be a song where I'll go 'It has to have this.' It has to have a P and an A sound, it has to have an R in it just because certain vowels and consonants just bend around the melody very nicely."
Interesting stuff. |

Tegan and Sara – My Number Lyrics

Love it. Love them. It can't be much longer before they really start garnering some serious attention in the States. They've released 2 really awesome pop albums that have been praised by critics and have plenty of cred thanks to their stellar debut and sophomore efforts. Add in the obvious hip factor and endearing live performances and you've got the makings of a hugely successful group. If that's what they want it's only a matter of time. |

When I first heard it I thought it sounded like something by Springsteen...I think it instantly reminded me of Blood Brothers. |
