On second thought, 'wooden Jesus' may refer to the craft of a cheap religious item sold literally all over the world - & how it means nothing but a decoration or an easy way out just because you purchased it one time and hung it over your kitchen doorway (as said earlier) without doing the neccessary introspection or research work to get to know your creator....a wooden crucifix is literally just an object or decoration that means literally zilch to so many people who have it in their environment. so a wooden crucifix used as a decoration as an object who certainly won't save you without the work, much like God (although, certainly not an inantimate object - literally the most powerful being in the universe who literally created EVERYTHING)'s possible true cares and possible requirements (idk completely, only He can say of course) for human development to reach salvation on Judgment Day, isn't going to accept your money (earthly aim) that represents all of this negativity and power structure and slaving your life away without ever having the chance to get to know yourself or him & all of this shit He (most likely?) sees as negativity here on Earth and in Earth culture....but of course, due to how society works and how society has developed over the years and how Earth society views the entire concept of money - some people are idiotic enough to believe that owning a religious item or that money or power (earthly aims) might be able to 'buy you out of what you deserve' I even think this may even relate to spellcraft (good or bad) that somehow promises to 'change your karma' in representation of whether or not you go to Heaven or Hell. Maybe since Andy Wood (via Malfunkshun, at that point in time) was one of the earliest pioneers of grunge, such as all of the other artists featured on 'Deep Six' compilation(aka the start of grunge music) - Andy represented 'Jesus' to Chris in a way, as a 'prophet' of sorts - who led the grunge movement forward with his talent and ambition but fell from grace....as Jesus descended into Hell for 3 days or whatever Christianity says...I don't remember....as in, Andy fell from his talents and drive to help create something amazing and to change the course of rock'n'roll history as honestly, the link between hair metal of the 80's and grunge music of the 90's - similar to Jesus in ways, maybe in theory or relevance - because he had a vision and a mission and an impressive drive that helped to spark something very influential in Earth's development & societal culture (aka, grunge music) that was to be appreciated for hundreds of years....or, well, let's hope so....I don't think it has anything to do with the falsehood of cheap crucifixes as good luck charms or home decor or like...hope that God will eventually save you just because you have one above the door of your kitchen but ignore spirituality and don't ever do introspection, read about theology, go to church or at least - spend time connecting to 'Source'/the Universe/God - or developing your spirituality. | Guys, I think I have this one figured out. Yes, "religious hypocrisy" - but what does that really mean here? I think more, what he\'s referring to is mainstream religion being (typically, usually) sooo wrong in regards to the afterlife. I mean, the entire Catholic church has decided since forever ago that believing in reincarnation is some sort of sin that might increase your chances of going to hell ..or purgatory. Some sort of karmic debt you acquire in their eyes if you take on that belief structure; that reincarnation is very real. So that\'s the \'religious hypocrisy\' part..\nNow here\'s the twist. I think this might be yet another song about Andy Wood. I don\'t think Layne & Andy knew each other super super well (could be wrong tho I wasn\'t there*)...fairweather friend of mine...but under that theory; the reason he\'s fairweather is because he started a synchronicity, a stream of deaths in the Seattle music scene. I think because of these frequent deaths, (Andy, Kurt, (Demri?) etc. - & with Layne being so sick...there was a HUGE dark fascination with where the fuck these people had run off to. What REALLY happens in the afterlife. Can one get born again? "Do it, show me, prove mainstream patriarchal religion wrong," he seems to be urging. \nAnother reason I think this was about Andy is because I read a thing from Chris Cornell once that spoke about the day everyone found out Andy died, and apparently Layne was hysterical. After Layne\'s death, Chris came out with this story because he claimed it was one of his major regrets...trying to be a strong man rather than consoling a hysterical man who was actually willing to dive deep into his emotions in the moment. He claimed that he regretted that for a long time. I wish I could find the article//interview that spoke about this. \nThe person who said it was about Kurt had the right idea, but Mother Love Bone, Alice in Chains & Soundgarden all hung out in the same circle. Again, I wasn\'t there so I can\'t be sure - but to me it has always been apparent that Nirvana was in a (social) league of their own. They were all tied to K records and the scene in Olympia, which I don\'t believe MLB, SG or AIC really ran in circles with. That\'s why I think it\'s about Andy instead of Kurt. Kind of mad at Andy for starting a certain darkness in Seattle that no one could seemingly do anything about once it hit the scene. Trust me, the afterlife was of big fascination to these people. And the desire...and question of the possibility...(can one?) Get Born Again (?) If so, fucking do it, maybe we could erase the darkness. i have a thought. i think layne (did jerry write this song? i don't think so but im not sure) might have suffered with serious adult ADHD. thats at least what it sounds like from this song. not being able to prioritize or manage his time, constant pushes forward with constant frustration (even when on the seemingly right track), no focus to finish all the project he starts, feeling lost in his accomplishments and management of life, feeling bounded down and cheated by the pressures of time and not knowing how to use it most efficiently - however, subsequently - knowing that he is brilliant. knowing he has the capability to do a lot. but if he were to have adult ADHD, he would be going through constant stages of resilience, frustration, resilience, frustration. no efforts accomplished. knowledge of his own brilliance and talent but no idea how to channel it to get the best result. i'd be interested in knowing if anyone knows if layne did suffer through this. |

this song fufilled my harsh summer. although this has been a track that i feel i can strongly relate to, i'm still a little stumped on what it's really about. here's a guess i think it strongly follows the ebb and flow of of an off-again, on-again type relationship. someone might be ready to give up on you, maybe they're seeing other people but still unwillingly bringing you along for the ride. "As I stand here I ponder greater things, No longer a part of your lover's dreams" "No longer a part of your TV screen, TV dreams" (I always thought he said "diva screams" here haha but guess I was wrong) etc. along with the"common complications/constant desperation/common escalations/constant fabrication" is when he's attempting to let go, shift harsh blame, pick out the negatives of the other and proceed through the misery, etc. we all know that stage of a breakup. but he definitely still loves her, and because he keeps going back and forth between "you"&"me" - i think that he keeps getting back together with her and things keep going wrong. "for what's to come - it's all been pretend, i feel that a change is gonna come, i feel so alive" is his desire to overcome these struggles with said chick and move on into a better period of the relationship. he wants her to keep working even though their both struggling with finding a common path. but he keeps feeling that things are going to be better, could be better - he's seen it in flashes during this period and whenever she gets back with him he tries harder to make it work and feels even more alive before she dumps him again. "keep on time, you run around, you move along, you push it on, keep on my time now - i run around for you, you don't know yet - but you feel it in your soul" this is him wanting her to push harder for a better, overall change because he definitely is. she can't feel how hard he's been working to improve things/situations, and can't yet see the benefits of coming back to the relationship full time. sounds like he's hooked, wants what he used to have with this girl, she's moved on, is using him and doesn't see the benefits he sees of putting in effort towards something better with him. what do you guys think? fucking unbelievable album, this is one of my favorite tracks. |

really surprised no one's commented on this one yet. i've loved helmet for a long time, but took a very clear listen to this song this morning and it brought me to tears. first verse - i think everyone knows how this feels. you love someone a lot, they're slipping away - and all you can think about is what you can do to make them cooperate in a relationship. you ask all your friends what they think is up, you change yourself trying to accomodate them, but they just keep pushing you in the dirt. about the skin flaking, another allergy - his analogy is right on but true, he's so concerned with said girl's reaction to him, that if it doesn't make sense in her mind - he guesses it doesn't exist. he's so confused, that hes trying to shake everything keeping him from being himself. even his skin, if she wanted it. not sure what the chorus means. crab maybe associating to cancer? an astrological reference, maybe? but as far as "infect the water" goes, i think this is a reference to their relationship (water) now infected by her uncooperation "what was that? i thought i heard my name" - another reference to her just trying to get rid of him. that's my two cents, a lot of it still doesnt make much sense. i'm starting to wonder if these are incorrect lyrics, but if anyone has anything to say about this - go for it. still kinda lost |

i know a lot of people say that there's absolutely no doubt in this song or whatever, that it's purely a love song..but i definitely think that there still is some unclear factor from the other side of the relationship. i feel that course, billy is 100% completely in love with this chick, and she may love him back but because i also can sense obsession in this song, i think that he may be more in love with her than he is with him. he's viewing her as the end all be all, everything she does is perfect and i get the vibe that billy (in writing this song) felt that he wouldn't need anyone else, ever again because this woman is the only one he could ever want. however, when you feel that way about someone..i mean when you seriously feel like hands down you could spend the rest of your life with someone and that they're such an amazing person that it surprises you the rest of the world hasn't found this individual first...it's sort of rare that both people feel exactly the same way. the line "don't fear me now" obviously gives away the fact that billy is kind of scared about coming on too strong, which wouldnt be the case if she felt the same way too. it sucks that there's always one person that falls harder. |

this one guy that i really like and i have both actually considered this to be our song what we feel most likely isn't the true meaning of the song, but for us it's just kind of the situation where we both have had troubled pasts..but finding each other brings us both happiness. because of our pasts, we believe that both of our souls do go deeper than bones, and we're able to send each other our vampires through opening up to one another. it's a long distance thing, so the whole thing about 'i want you, i can't get enough" refers to us just liking each other. a line that always really caught my eye was "to live this way is not for the meek" and for me, that refers to the fact that the guy i like is on the verge of being famous (he's the lead singer of a well-known band). he doesn't want a girl whose starstruck or jealous of what he has, he wants someone who can take on such a lifestyle and be able to support him. its cool. |
