I dont know if i'm right but the line .. on my way nails broke and fell into the wishing well... to me this kind of just means like the woman as they are being captured are making wishes to survive and nails into the wishing well is just kind of like how we throw a coin into a wishing well but he used nails to emphasize that it is a woman because they have long nails |

Well everyone is saying this is about sex and im not saying it isnt but the first time I heard it I thought of it as something else...as of now i'm down straight up and i can turn to the box for some peace or a box for a piece or a box for a smoke but they're all gonna choke me Well I figured The box for some peace would be like a box with maybe like in his other song of sharp object... self mutilation or whatever.. also suggested by the last song on the new cd wheres hes talking about cutting..The box for a peice.. humm a peice could be a gun or a peice could be a bowl or something maybe drugs of some sort..The box for a smoke.. another addiction ciggarets maybe.. And they are all going to choke him meaning well they will all ruin him in the long run... i dont know call me crazy but thats just the way i percieved it.. |

| In an interview Oberst said .. "A lot of the stuff I write is sort of other people's stories or things that might not necessarily happen to me but float around in the back of my head," ... I think that it is amazing that he could write so detailed and emotionaly about something that never even happened to him.. this song at first convinced me that he had a brother that really did die but then i later found out he didnt... He is bascially telling an amazingly well writeen story in the shape of a song.. brilliant | |
