This song shows me how inspired and energized the machines were at first. Great lyrics about being in search for something (maybe a greater good), very adholescent/pre-collegesque, liberal ideas. But altogether great, because when so many young kids are thinking like that, they need a muse. My favorite part of the song is 'You get scared and I get angry, (at) Being lost, feeling lazy, Not at all like you, Not you". Thanks TSM. Sorry that your latest work (Ten Silver Drops) sucks so bad. |

To all you people who think that elton wrote this about coming out of the closet. That statement is wrong on so many levels. First of all, long time lyracist Bernie Taupin wrote the f'in lyrics and second of all ej came out of the closet about 20 years ago, and this song was made about 3 years ago. Third of all very few songs are written about ej (someone saved my life tonight, captain fantastic) most are in relevance to bernie's life, the bad ass that he was.
And to the Levon Lover: I don't know why you posted that here, just go to the levon site it gives excellent explanation. But I agree, levon just might be most mysterious lyrics written by taupin. But I dont think he was referring to religion as much as you think.
The -born on Christmas Day, when God was Dead- line is saying that 'when there was no hope'
The -he called his son Jesus, because he liked the name- line just means he cares sooo much for his son he gave him the best life he could give.
Alvin Tostig is just the name of Levon's father, the song is just acknowledging Levon as a great father, Bernie Taupin wrote a lot of his songs about his father, he must have been a very important peron in his life. |

beanicka, obviously there are 5 songs on the whole album, what igolem meant was that the 4 songs on the opposite side of Atom Heart Mother, were created each by a different band member (If:Waters; Summer '68: Wright; Fat Old Sun: Gilmour) the only problem is Alans song is composed by all four members. When Atom Heart Mother (the song) is on a totally different level than the songs on the other side. I like the drug reference even though I dont think its true, defenitley drug influenced, everything was drug influenced, but there is a deeper find there. |

Zinbobdan probably came the closest to understanding taupins ideas, out of all the 20 somethin people who wrote that it had to do with drugs and being gay and whatever. The truth is Bernie told what made him write the damn thing in some mag, I think the Rolling Stone, anyway he said he wanted to write a song about outerspace and astronauts for a while after listening to some old blues song called Rocket or Spaceman or something like that. Anyway he said he was drivin home won day when it was raining, and the words just popped into his head "She packed my bags last night, pre-flight, zero hour, nine am" etc., but he couldnt write them down while he was driving so he just kept saying it over and over in his head until he arived home, so he could run in the house and scribble it all down on to a piece of paper that would one day stick into all of our minds |

For me, worst song on Ghost is Born, maybe I just don't know the meaning behind it, but it seems pretty simple. I think he is just annoyed with the way a lot of people like rich business men have no soul, no meaning, and are living a lie. |
