The Killers – Spaceman Lyrics
|
excuse me, but i believe these are the correct lyrics!:
"Spaceman came down
to answer some things
The world gathered 'round
from paupers to Kings.
I'll answer your questions,
I'll answer them true
I show you the way,
you know what to do.
Who is wrong and who is right?
Yellow, brown, black or white?
Spaceman he answered:
You no longer mind
I've opened your eyes
You're now color blind"

some of the lyrics sound kind of depressing. i mean "how can i get any rest now" ? "i will soon be put to rest"? it sounds like he's talking about death |

America – A Horse With No Name Lyrics
|
i have several theories about the meaning of this song:
-hippies: in the 60s they ventured out west to start a new life. "normal" society rejected them and a lot of them went out to the desert to live on communes.
-peyote: this song is reminiscent of carlos castaneda's book "teachings of don juan" wherein the author takes peyote and experiences hallucinations.
-vietnam war: his description of the strange environment is similar to what american soldiers thought of the landscape of vietnam. "But the air was full of sound" could be describing the sounds of the fighting happening. "My skin began to turn red" means that the soldier is unaccustomed to such weather and gets sunburned. "And the story it told of a river that flowed/Made me sad to think it was dead": a lot of the wildlife in vietnam was killed off because of all the agent orange spread around and the singer is expressing his sorrow for this. "But the humans will give no love": an anti-war statement. also, the horse has no name because no one could predict where the war was going.
ps- just because the lyricist says there is no meaning or the lyrics are really obvious does not mean that there is no meaning in a song! this is songmeanings.net after all. |

i think this song is about how people don't believe in magic because there is not any concrete evidence for it and only those who truly have faith will discover it. |

Idlewild – American English Lyrics

american english is only used in the usa. every other english speaking country uses british english. and the american dream is widely regarded as unrealistic by the rest of the world. so i think this song is about someone trying to stay in their own world and foolishly isolating themself. |

John Mayer – Daughters Lyrics

|
"so fathers be good to your daughters,
daughters will love like you do"
umm is john mayer trying to channel freud in this song?
"but boys would be gone
without warmth of a woman's good good heart"
what if they're gay? so much emphasis on traditional gender roles in this song.
"on behalf of every man
looking out for every girl
You are the god and the weight of her world"
yeah right! |

"Sign up the picket line or the parade"
this says how americans view politics in black and white. either you're a god fearing flag waving patriot or a freedom hating trouble making hippie. |

"Your MOTHER shows up in a nasty dress
It's your turn now to stand where I stand
Everybody lookin' at you here take hold of my hand
